Opening A Hotel

Hotel Krantz opening 1898 - Hotel Ambassador, Vienna, Austria
The Hotel Krantz-Ambassador is opened. The first few years after the reopening of the hotel form a truly glittering period in the history of the present day Hotel Ambassador, and the guest list from the period reads like an extract from the Gotha.
Among the guests are celebrities such as Luitpold Prince Regent of Bavaria (one of the first guests at the new hotel), Wilhelm Prince of Hohenzollern (one of the sons of the German Emperor Wilhelm II), and many more. But the guests not only include political figures and members of the high aristocracy. Samuel Langhorn Clemens, better known as Mark Twain, chooses the newly opened Hotel Krantz to stay in during his time in Vienna. From the balcony of his room he watches the solemn funeral procession which accompanies the mortal remains of the Empress Elisabeth, knows as "Sissi", to their last resting place in the Imperial burial Vault. She had been stabbed by the Italian anarchist Luigi Lucheni in Geneva on September 10, 1898.
Hotel Phillips
Originally opened as Phillips Apartment Hotel in June 1950 to accommodate the increase in demand for housing after the war. It had large multi-room efficiency apartments and some hotel rooms. In 1980, it was converted into Hotel Phillips, with 156 luxury guestrooms and suites.
The future of Hotel Phillips is up in the air now. Much needed renovations are required to bring the hotel up to modern standards. Likely the upgrades won't come soon. Developers are currently seeking incentives for plans for a 100 room $14.5m Hilton Garden Inn near the corner of Frank Phillips Blvd and Keeler.
