    limestone
  • Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed largely of the mineral calcite (calcium carbonate: CaCO3). Like most other sedimentary rocks, limestones are composed of grains; however, most grains in limestone are skeletal fragments of marine organisms such as coral or foraminifera.

  • a sedimentary rock consisting mainly of calcium that was deposited by the remains of marine animals

  • Limestone is an Australian reggae album. It is a collaboration between Joe Camilleri and Bomba's Nicky Bomba. The name Limestone is a tribute to the country of birth to both Camilleri and Bomba, the island of Malta.

  • A hard sedimentary rock, composed mainly of calcium carbonate or dolomite, used as building material and in the making of cement

Shawnee Branch Library

Shawnee Branch Library

Photographed by Ian Bell This is the building of Shawnee Branch Library, and it is located on West Broadway. The building was constructed in cooperation with the works of Progress Administration in Kentucky in 1938. The building contain some architectural elements like keystones at the top of the windows, and the has quoins on the edges of the extended part of the front of the entrance. In addition, the architects used an arch above the pendiment of the door, and there are dentils around the roof of the extended front entrance. From interpreting the building, I think it would fall into the Red school category because the architect used brick, and it looks like they may have used limestone on the keystones and the quoins. From observing the building, an architectural historian would probably consider this building to be Red School because it it artless; for example, when you compare and contrast the Main Library on Fourth and York Street, the old or original part of the library has like ornamental and high relief sculptural-like figures carved around the pendiment and the roof facing York Street. From noticing these things, would probably make the Main Branch Library be defined has having strong art characteristics and features. On the other hand, the Shawnee Branch Library does not have like high and low relief engraved figures around the roof which wound make this building Red School. Finally, the building would be interpreted as Red School because it looks like it has some age to it; for instance, when examining the how the limestone looks on the keystones, and the limestone on the quoins on the edges of the entrance. The limestone on the keystones that are at the top of basement windows, looks more cleaner and more fresh than the ones around the first floor windows. Because of the rain and snow, is probably what makes some parts of the Shawnee Branch Library's limestone look old.
Also, this building has a good place of pleasure because when people drive or walk pass the library, they may feel that the library has nice and welcoming staff; the people who enter the library may feel it is a good atmosphere for their children or themselves to go to read books, concentrate on their studying, or use the computers without a lot of noise and distractions. When looking at Fujimori's Too Tall House built in 2004, it almost has the some representation because it is a place where he might want to think, drink tea, and have a place of a piece of mind.
