    calories
  • (calorie) a unit of heat equal to the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one kilogram of water by one degree at one atmosphere pressure; used by nutritionists to characterize the energy-producing potential in food

  • Either of two units of heat energy

  • The energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water through 1 °C (now usually defined as 4.1868 joules)

  • (caloric) thermal: relating to or associated with heat; "thermal movements of molecules"; "thermal capacity"; "thermic energy"; "the caloric effect of sunlight"

  • (caloric) of or relating to calories in food; "comparison of foods on a caloric basis"; "the caloric content of foods"

  • The energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 kilogram of water through 1 °C, equal to one thousand small calories and often used to measure the energy value of foods

    crunches
  • The crunch is one of the most common abdominal exercises. It primarily works the rectus abdominis.

  • an exercise performed by "curling" the midsection to draw the base of the ribcage and the hips as close together as possible; the hip joints themselves should not move during the movement and are usually held at a 90-degree angle by putting the lower legs on a chair or bench with one's back on

  • Crush (a hard or brittle foodstuff) with the teeth, making a loud but muffled grinding sound

  • Make such a sound, esp. when walking or driving over gravel or an icy surface

  • Strike or crush noisily

  • A form of abdominal exercise which sees you crunch your legs and stomach together. Can be done with legs on a bench.

    burned
  • (of sugar) Cooked or heated until caramelized

  • Having been burned

  • treated by heating to a high temperature but below the melting or fusing point; "burnt sienna"

  • ruined by overcooking; "she served us underdone bacon and burnt biscuits"

  • (of a taste) Like that of food that has been charred in cooking

  • destroyed or badly damaged by fire; "a row of burned houses"; "a charred bit of burnt wood"; "a burned-over site in the forest"; "barricaded the street with burnt-out cars"

Crunch - Fat Burning Pilates

Crunch - Fat Burning Pilates

Welcome to CRUNCH Fitness! Get the best of both worlds and the most for your effort with this winning combination: calorie-burning cardio along with Pilates-based toning. Impact safe yet so effective, it maximizes your fat-burning potential. You'll start with easy-to-follow cardio that skillfully blends dance and low impact cardio with standing Pilates-inspired moves into one routine to challenge your aerobic fitness, improve your posture and put you more in touch with the power of your "core." Then, kick off your shoes and hit the floor to tighten and tone your favorite body parts, including abs, butt and thighs. Get long, lean, sexy muscles with our series of Pilates mat exercises, sure to give you a year-round bikini body! For faster results than Pilates alone, this combo workout can help you sculpt your body AND burn fat! For all fitness levels. A mat or rug and bare feet are highly recommended for the Pilates floorwork.

"Calorie burning cardio plus Pilates-based toning," promises this 40-minute Crunch program, which combines Pilates-influenced standing and mat exercises. In the cardio section, instructor Ellen Barrett uses Pilates terminology (e.g. "standing imprint") as she adapts Pilates moves to rather repetitious standing exercises--mostly squats and leg lift variations--which work the core muscles of the abdominals and back as well as legs, thighs, and buttocks. The moves are sometimes slow and rarely "travel," so your heart rate might not stay elevated, although your lower body and core muscles will get a good workout. The toning section consists of Pilates mat exercises which work abs, back, thighs, and buttocks. One exerciser demonstrates easier modifications. The background music is dominated by a lively drummer who keeps the workout upbeat and enthusiastic. --Joan Price

Day 44 Gherkin

Day 44 Gherkin

I took a walk up The Monument today. They have a little video on their website that you can watch a camera on the top to see what the weather is like in advance and today I decided the clouds looked pretty interesting so I'd go take a look.

I climbed the full 311 steps to the top.

Now Im not exactly fit. But I wouldnt say I was totally unfit either. But that was tough. My legs were aching. I think I got overtaken by a german grandmother at one point!

Anyways I thought it'd be worth it when I get to the top for the amazing view.

But actually it wasnt. The view was good. But the problem was it was a cage. The gaps in between were about 2 inches across and the idiot who built it (the cage not monument) didnt think to do the intelligent thing and put a gap for cameras.

The above was pretty much as good as it got by attempting to poke my lens into one of the gaps. I've had to crop this a lot to get rid of all the lines!

At least I burned a good few calories though!
