Visalini Loganathan -- Malaysia -- Class B

Visalini Loganathan -- Malaysia -- Class B

The title of this photo is "A New Revolution". The revolution shows that the technology has been conquered by critters. In this photo, the canine is well versed with the latest gadgets and is enthusiastic about utilizing it in its own way. Imagine animals taking technology to a whole new level. We use technology to make our lives easier why not let the faunas use it to make their life simpler too? Perhaps the canine in this photo is listening to music while searching up the internet for healthy eating habits. It is a known fact that dogs literally eat anything. With proper exposure to technology, even they would learn to lead a fine and healthy life. It never crossed my mind until this very moment that animals are naturally photogenic as well. It has always been set in our petite minds that only humans are capable of being camera-friendly because we are the intelligent ones when it comes to facial expressions. Little did i know that animals are exactly the same as us! The middle photo of the canine has proven that even they can express their joyful feeling when they are elated. I wonder if one day animals colonized the world of technology will they be as ignorant and inconsiderate as us? Will they misuse and abuse technologies like us? Will they rely solely on technology to get it through the day like us? Most importantly will they be "A man's best friend or technology's best mate?" Rapid advances and continuous innovation in technology have made the world a smaller place. Imagine a canine using "Facebook" to keep in touch with their breed all over the globe. Pondering upon this situation I believe one day they would be blogging too! And it would be of no surprise if they had online dealings and business going on in a circle of critters. According to Ambrose Bierce, "A person who makes an ingenious arrangement of wheels, levers and springs, and believes it civilization". If this is so, then why not let animals use technology to create a world of civilization and socialization of their own? Who knows, maybe if technology was really placed in the hands of animals, more gratitude would be shown towards Mother Nature. As said by Alan M. Eddison," Modern technology, owes ecology and apology!". With the help of technology we humans are no longer beasts. We're hypnotized by media saturation, politics, religion, science, TV, the web and books. We have come to a point where destroying our television set would be a good head start into diverting our minds into a more positive approach in life which is not bounded by the influence of technology. Will animals ever need boundaries like us? Will they let technology control them like what it has done to us? It all remains a mystery until a new revolution has been set in this world.

From left, Firefighter Brett Astor, Fire Operator/Inspector Adam Brauer and Firefighter Michael Hill, accept their trophy for winning the Healthy Eating Competition.

Their teammate, Lt. Brad Brundrett, is not shown. The award was given by H-E-B whose

local representatives judged the competition.

Missouri City Fire & Rescue Service honored our firefighters' selfless service to others, bravery in the line of duty and physical fitness during the 2010 Awards Presentation dinner.

During the recent ceremony, Chief Russell Sander saluted the City's crews for their hard work and dedication and recognized the exemplary service of the honorees.

Peter Ondrusko earned the Rookie of the Year award for his ability to "get the job done completely, competently and correctly, while working well with others, and serving as a positive role model," Sander said. "Peter joined the Department in May of 2009 and became known as a person who supports the team and for his positive, 'can-do' attitude. He became very active in the Department's Recruitment Committee, making several presentations at fire academies, while representing the Department and the City with a positive and energetic attitude."

Frank Luu earned the Firefighter of the Year award because "the amount of work he produced over the past year exceeds expectations," Sander said. "Frank is able to maintain his focus on the job at hand and produces consistent work. Moreover, he is actively involved in the Fire House Clown Program, the Department's Honor Guard, and has represented the department in several events over the past year." Luu was also commended for obtaining his Paramedic and Advanced Diver Certifications during the past year.

Lt. Sam Scott earned the Officer of the Year award, "recognizing him not only for his duties as an officer, but for his dedication in maintaining the Department's Self Contained Breathing Apparatus and his passion for training," Sander said. "He always strives to make the people around him better. If there is something that can be learned from an incident scene, Lieutenant Scott will find it, dissect it, and provide information to those around him."

In closing remarks, Chief Sander thanked his colleagues for their excellent contributions and left them with this high praise: "Those who lead an unselfish life of service never cease to be surrounded by friends and loved ones."
