Ruins of Kaiser Shipyard #3

Ruins of Kaiser Shipyard #3

Henry Kaiser standardized mass production for the purposes of preparing equipment for America's far flung conflicts during WWII. He created segmented parts, streamlined shipyards, and simple but sturdy welding techniques to mass-produce ships, resulting in the creation of both the fastest ship ever built (4 days), and the fastest average construction (45 days). The four shipyards he created in Richmond constructed more ships-747- during WWII than any other in the world. After the war, his establishment of a worker's hospital would lead to the creation of Kaiser Permanente. Kaiser shipyard #3, used for constructing troop transports, is the only one of his shipyards that remained (abet ruined).

SHEFFIED STEEL (ARMCO) 1984

SHEFFIED STEEL (ARMCO) 1984

AT THIS POINT IN TIME, THE MAIN PLANT WAS PRETTY MUCH SHUT DOWN AND FROM HEREON THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF AMERICAS STEEL INDUSTRY BEGAN ITS DOWNHILL SLIDE. THERE ARE MANY REASONS WHY THE STEEL INDUSTRY HIT THE SKIDS AND THERE IS NO LONGER ANY NEED TO DISCUSS THEM. IT ALL HAS TO DO WITH "FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS." THAT IS, THE BELL IN THE OLD FASHIONED CASH-REGISTER. HEARING THE CASH REGISTER BELL RINGING WAS A PLEASANT SOUND TO THE OWNERS OF BUSINESSES, BUT THE BELL BECAME MORE DISTANT, MORE FAINT UNTIL IT WAS NO LONGER HEARD BUT ONLY REMEMBERED. SUCH IS THE PENDELUM OR WHATEVER IT IS THAT DETERMINES A NATION'S ECONOMY--OR LACK THEREOF.
