Vintage 70's slot-together playground equipment
Ever since this photo ran in the NY Times [1/14/07], I've been trying to identify the maker of this awesome, slot-together playground equipment.
The reporter said it was an undated, uncredited photo from the Times archive. The NYC Parks Dept. couldn't identify it, and said it was not a city park. M. Paul Friedberg, a leading playground designer in the 70's who was mentioned right after this told me he thought it was DIY at a school or something, probably made out of painted marine plywood.
Anyone recognize it?
who is brave enough?
Only the bravest children when I was a wee child were able to climb up to the top of this structure, especially by the ladder in the middle. The turning slide was the biggest fear to conquer because you have to go over a bridge to get to it. But, oh what fun when you could conquer your fears!! Where else can you find vintage playground with equipment like this? I will cry if and when they ever take this down. It is a great childhood memory. (Debbie - your two babes are next in line)
