Pop Filter Placement

pop filter placement

    pop filter
  • A screen placed on a microphone grille that attenuates or filters out pop disturbances before they strike the microphone diaphragm. Usually made of open-cell plastic foam or silk, a pop filter reduces pop and wind noise

  • A pop filter is a handy device used to remove the plosive "popping" sound that is typically picked up with a microphone when a 'p' or 't' sound is made. This is caused by a rush or air hitting the diaphragm of a microphone.

  • A pop filter or pop shield is an anti-pop noise protection filter for microphones, typically used in a recording studio. It serves to reduce or eliminate 'popping' sounds caused by the mechanical impact of fast moving air on the microphone during recorded speech and singing.

    placement
  • The action of finding a home, job, or school for someone

  • contact established between applicants and prospective employees; "the agency provided placement services"

  • the spatial property of the way in which something is placed; "the arrangement of the furniture"; "the placement of the chairs"

  • the act of putting something in a certain place

  • The action of putting someone or something in a particular place or the fact of being placed

  • The act of holding the ball for a placekick

Vintage Design, Professional Results
Reminiscent of some of the world's finest vintage microphones, the Baby Bottle microphone can cut through the busiest tracks, while maintaining the high-quality, no-compromise audio that you expect from Blue Microphones. The Baby Bottle was designed shortly after Blue's famous Bottle microphone, and--like its predecessor--features a seamless blend of style and sound quality. This starts with a lollipop spherical grille housing Blue's renowned hand-tuned and tested large diaphragm capsule, and extends to include a transformerless output design that delivers accurate sound-source reproduction.
A Distinctive Sonic Signature
Each professional-grade Blue microphone utilizes a unique, proprietary capsule design to capture a specific sonic signature, and the Baby Bottle is no exception--it offers a full midrange response, along with a smooth top-end and neutral bottom-end, which creates an extremely rich, classic yet contemporary sound. This makes the Baby Bottle an ideal choice when you're recording vocals or room mixing for drums or electric guitar amps. It can even handle difficult sources like strings, flutes, saxophones, and brass instruments. In addition, with a unique proprietary circuit polarizing the capsule film at 100 volts, the Baby Bottle yields a large output that makes it the quietest microphone in its class.
Cardioid Polar Pattern and Discrete Electronic Components
Featuring a cardioid polar pattern, the Baby Bottle is built to capture rich, full-bodied sound from sources that are directly in front of the mic. The capsule and cardioid pattern combine with high-quality electronic components, including a Class-A discrete amplifier circuit, to ensure that each Baby Bottle mic offers consistent, reliable performance. The electronic components in Blue Microphones have been carefully selected, based on 20 years of engineering and experimentation, in order to increase microphone speed, decrease distortion, reduce product variance, and ensure long-term dependability.
Includes Shock Mount, Storage Case
In addition to the mic itself, the Baby Bottle setup includes a custom spider shock mount for controlled use and a pop filter for laying down clean vocals. It also comes with a wooden storage case that matches the mics retro good looks.
The Baby Bottle is backed by a three-year limited warranty.

Mid-Day Dog

Mid-Day Dog

This was a test today.
I was told (or read somewhere) that you cannot do high speed sync without an SB-800 or SB-900 on the hotshoe or a hotshoe extension cord (FP mode for high-speed sync). I use this method, but the fact is that statement is not entirely true, there is at least one way.

In this photo I used the pop-up flash on the D300 as the CLS commander. Put a holder bracket in the hotshoe and mounted the Radiopopper on top of it. Set the master flash (popup) to "- -" mode (emits no light for exposure, only preflashes for CLS signals). Set Group A to "M" (manual) and 1/1 (full power). Put an SB-800 in a 12x16 softbox, mounted a Radiopopper receiver to it, put it next to my dog in strong mid-day light and fired some test shots. Worked just great at 1/2000 at f/4 as shown with no ND or polarizing filter to knock down the brightness.

Note: if you want the popup to give light to the scene, then your sync speed is limited to 1/250 or 1/320 (1/500 on D70) or you can mount a flash to the hotshoe that allows FP-Sync mode and go beyond that limit. Or in this test, just set the popup flash to "- -" mode and fire away at any shutter speed you want.

I have quite a bit of gear, but sometimes I just want a simple setup with minimal gear. This allows for a smaller and lighter kit when you need it.

This would work with Radiopopper P1 or PX series, but of course will not work with Canon since the popup flash cannot be a commander.
Or course this also works without Radiopoppers too, just using CLS but with the line-of-site IR issue and small forward direction of the popup makes this a hit and miss with real limitations on off-camera flash placement.

Windex Blue, Take two

Windex Blue, Take two

Free from the Carbonite, Mr Lego reaches for some soap...

reset the previous shot as I remembered something about 'family of angles' and adjusted the placement and aim of my 'windex jar' filter side light to the right accordingly. The master-A (on camera) is still gelled CTO and shooting straight up, you can see some of the orange highlights, but I think I had the ratio set pretty low.

Oh, and my wife had me clean the handprints off of the fridge, too!

Next I think I'll put the Slave under the stool and shoot the blue onto the background while popping the subject with the CTO gelled Master

C414 XLS ST Stereo Pair Condenser Microphones

Realistic stereo recordings require microphones with outstanding performance and excellent quality. They also require performance consistency and accurate localisation from the pair of microphones. Therefore, every factory-matched pair has been created from thousands of individual microphones selected by AKG's sophisticated computer-aided matching method. The result is the highest possible correlation over the whole frequency range and virtually identical sensitivity for stunning, three-dimensional recordings. The matched pairs consist of two microphones that are within 1 dB to each other in sensitivity and also within 1 dB to each other in the range of 300 Hz to 8,000 Hz of the individual frequency response when used in cardioid mode. The microphones are selected from a large quantity of individual microphones according to the described criteria by using a proprietary computer program.Using this matched pair for stereo recordings in various techniques will provide a good and stable balance without frequency-dependent shifting of the stereo panorama. The kit includes all the standard accessories of the deluxe package (excluding the PF 80) along with a stereo bar and proof of performance charts in an attractive carrying case (large Soundtool case).
