Description:
The potential of using supported liquid membrane (SLM) technique, combined with reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) has been investigated for the determination of peptides in human blood plasma. The peptides studied were "D"LLeu"D"LPhe, MetLeuPhe, GlyLeuTyr and ValGluProIleProTyr. The carrier (Aliquat 336) was incorporated in membrane phase in order to facilitate the transport of investigated peptides. After extraction, the analyte-enriched acceptor phase was directly injected into an HPLC system for analysis. With SLM, high selectivity and efficiency were achieved for extraction of peptides in aqueous solutions. Lower extraction efficiency was obtained in plasma sample. The limiting factors were the presence of salts and proteins in blood plasma. The necessary of ultrafiltration application before the SLM was required in order to improve its stability. The minimum quantifiable concentration was 90-130ng/ml of the investigated peptides based on 0.5ml plasma. The standard curve was linear over the concentration range of 0.05-10@mg/ml.

The Mission:
Reflections are fun to capture, but doing so without water or the aid of any type of liquid is a bit more of a challenge.

What it Took
Looking at the world to find reflections that were not on water was cool. And, when paying attention, it was neat to see that they are everywhere. WIT was choosing which reflection to select and submit for the assignment, first. Work has been exceptionally heavy for the past month, so, making time to go out and shoot has been a challenge. All of my captures were from "in the moment" opportunities of everyday life (which, I guess, you could argue are the way images become inspired). I'm not in love with the ones I found, but am motivated to keep looking for reflections in interesting places to capture.

The one submitted for the assignment is a building in downtown Baltimore when we had lunch last week (Baltimore has a ton of mirrored buildings, which I never noticed before this assignment, so thanks, Lea!). It has a totally reflective surface, is blue, and has outcroppings that make it reflect back on itself, which creates mirrors within mirrors, and an abstract feel. Post-processing included a significant crop to isolate the reflection, "auto enhance" under "quick fixes" in Aperture, and an additional .2 in vibrancy. The original photo is in the comments section, below, as are some, "also rans" for the assignment.
