The photo is a bit grainy, but it's nearly impossible to get the full disco effect if the lights are on (duh). With the mirror reflection on the floor and walls, our preference for 60's furniture, and no carpets in the living room, the place looked a lot like a disco. Sort of. There were no satin baseball jackets, no roller disco shoes, and no spandex pants, but with "It's Rainin' Men" and "I Will Survive" on the stereo, and Nana leading the charge, the boys got a taste of my childhood, boogie-oogie-oogied, and shook their groove thangs before it was time for bed.

Last night's dinner conversation -- over barbecued chicken, herbed potatoes, and cole slaw -- seems so long ago, only the photos I took are reminding me of what we discussed. There was the usual haranguing of poor Jackson about his vegetable intake, with Logan offering the suggestion that maybe if he ate them first, instead of waiting until last, he could follow the bad taste with things like chicken and potatoes (Jackson did not like that idea one bit). There was lots of discussion about upcoming birthdays (Moses' is next and he has got it completely planned out), and it was decided that the House of Seven should have a Spirit Week, with each child and parent selecting a fun thing to do for each day. Carter wanted backwards day. Logan wanted baseball day, Moses wanted fashion-catwalk day, and Jackson wanted NO VEGETABLE DAY. A lively discussion ensued about whether not eating vegetable was really a legitimate spirit event. I'll let the boys work that out.

This weekend, Dan and I are running the Tough Mudder in Tahoe, and Moses is spending the weekend with his Titi Deborah. The Hustons are base-balling it (some team.... what are they called? A's? Something like that? I know they played the WORLD CHAMPION GIANTS at one time -- and lost. The rest is kinda fuzzy). Pops' birthday is tonight, so I suspect there will be much revelry and cake. Lots of cake.

We will all have some down-time and some space, and I will hope that when I come home, my kitchen floor is finally mopped. A girl can dream.

First Orem Chapel

Timpanogos Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized November 8, 1885, at a meeting held in the log schoolhouse presided over by Presiding Bishop William B. Preston, his counselor Robert T. Burton, and Provo stake President Abraham O. Smoot.

Timpanogos, an Indian word meaning many waters, was the name given by the Indians to the entire valley as well as the beautiful mountain standing at the northeast border of the valley.

Plans were made in 1895 to erect the meetinghouse. The land for the new building was donated by Thomas Jefferson Patten, Sr., the nephew of the Apostle David W. Patten. Peter Mastin Wentz, called as the first bishop, and his sons made some of the brick for the building and the adobe lining. The various hues now apparent in the restored brick face show that they were made in small batches. The style of the church with its lovely gothic windows and tower was typical of the architecture of the day. The building measured fifty-two feet by thirty-six feet. Balls of carpet rags were donated and these were placed on hand looms to make rugs that added comfort and beauty to the new chapel. Window openings were covered with quilts. The building was dedicated in 1898 and used for dances and community activities as well as for worship.

This chapel has been remodeled, renovated and added to throughout the years to accommodate members. From the original Timpanogos Ward has come a growing number of wards and stakes.
