Day 204 (May 20th): Endorphins
When I set out for the gym this afternoon I was just looking to get into a rhythm and turn my brain off for a couple of hours. It's been a long day. I want to be able to give people the answers they want, but sometimes I just don't know what the answer is. So... I got the urge to run. Which has never been one of my strong skills since I was born with joint hypermobility, which makes me ultra-flexible, but isn't good for basic tasks like running and yoga.
I got to the gym, did a bit of resistance training and then got on the eliptical. And I got this burst of energy and started tearing through it. But instead of zoning out, I started thinking things through. I was there til closing and then I still didn't want to slow down. So I found myself walking and jogging down Michigan Avenue and then Lake Shore. It started lightly raining a bit and I had to giggle internally at some of the people running for cover like a hurricane was coming, but I didn't want to stop.
Once I got home I slumped down on the carpet and just laid there for probably ten minutes. My shoulders and calves still feel like they're on fire. Ten minutes after this photo was taken I sat in the bath for a half hour, just letting my body slow down.
Conclusions:
- My right shoulder is still a mess.
- My body is going to hate me tomorrow.
- Sometimes I have the stamina of a 10 year old kid.
- I love this city.
- I'm happy here. I like my life. So I'm not going to go anywhere for now. The world will still be out there in a few years and I can only hope certain people will still be around as well.
