I Touched Sony NEX-5 Today

Today my friend called me, and he has a problem with his camera. He said he just bought it and a newest camera on the market, and you can't find it here. I was wondering what camera that could be... Then, I saw the Sony NEX-5.

A good news is that there was no problem. He didn't press OK to format a brand new memory chip that he inserted into the camera.


NEX-5 is Cool, E-PL1 is Luvable

Sony NEX- is a very nice piece of engineering (and probably you've already guess what I'm gonna say). But I still love my Oly E-Pen. (Sorry, my friend) . For me, Olympus E-PL1 is lots more lovable and fun than the Sony. Mind you, the Sony is nice, so small, simple to use (more like point and shoot). I tried to set pic aspect ratio but somehow I saw only two settings, i.e. 4/3 and 16/9 (mmm... I may have been looking at wrong place). Sony NEX-5 takes very nice pics, cool panorama feature, 16:9 monitor display and so on.

Sorry, (and don't tell it to my friend), but I still prefer my Olympus E-PL1 (not because I'm an owner of Pen), and he is every way right to be proud of Sony NEX-5.

There are Things You Cannot Find Out from Reading from Specs and Reviews

For a long time, ever since I started taking photos, I had thought a good camera means good, solid, fine mechanics, good lens, core functionality and performance. (my very first camera of my own was Canon F1, given to me as my 14th birthday present) . I always thought something like art filters or automatic exposure mode were for toy cameras but not for 'real' cameras. But after start using the Olympus E-PL1, it had changed my mind. There is more to technical excellence and specs, which I didn't realize until now.

I never really understood why some people like Lomography, but why they have a hug fan community behind it.

I think I understand it now after using Olympus E-PL1. That's why I saw Pentax I-10, and also saw the original design was based on Pentax 110 SLR camera, and seeing it someone carrying it around their neck, it instantly made me want one.

Sony NEX-5, yes, it's an incredibly small body with bigger APS-C sensor, but will I have fun to carry that around my neck, have fun? Ah... I think I still prefer Olympus. There is something that one cannot get it from reading specification facts.

In Short

It's like find a man with fantasic CV and diplomas of a Ivy league graduate and of a good house, but it doesn't t mean he is fun to hang around or go out with.
