Beverly Hills, 90210 - The Complete Second Season

One of the definitive, landmark shows of the 1990s, 90210 quickly became an important fixture on the FOX and in the popular discourse of adolescents and young adults. The second season’s main characters, Dylan, Kelly, Donna, Steve, David, Andrea and twins Brandon and Brenda all attended West Beverly Hills High School. Brandon and Brenda Walsh and their parents, transplants from Minneapolis were the stable nuclear family with strong values; their home was a safe haven for the whole gang and the center of much of the drama. The show dealt with a steady stream of love triangles and other romantic entanglements and occasionally touched on more serious issues as well.

From a pregnancy scare and a psycho girlfriend to a cameo by Color Me Badd, Beverly Hills 90210's sophomore year demonstrates why this was "the greatest TV show in history with a zip code in its title." That's what comedians John Aboud and Michael Colton (Best Week Ever) call it in a very entertaining bonus feature that affectionately roasts 90210 from its so-the-drama melodramatics to its stuck-in-the-'90s fashion sense (high-waisted jeans, buttoned-up shirts, and whatever the heck you call the outrageous wardrobe worn by Brian Austin Green's David). This is the season that catapulted 90210 from Most Likely to Succeed to BSOF (Best Show on Fox). Certainly, it was must-see viewing for teens who anxiously tuned in each week to vicariously chart the serial adventures of siblings Brenda (Shannon Doherty) and older brother Brandon (Jason Priestley), recent transplants from Minnesota to glitzy Beverly Hills. Season 2, one of the best in this series' decade-long run, is one for the time capsule, with episodes and story arcs that loom large in the 90210 phenomenon, among them: Brenda's tempestuous, on-and-off-again relationship with soulful bad boy Dylan (Luke Perry in his instantly iconic role), causing rifts between her and her increasingly disapproving parents; new girl Emily Valentine (Christine Elise) going all Fatal Attraction on Brandon (no rabbits are boiled but a homecoming float is in jeopardy); Kelly (Jennie Garthhooking up with Melrose Place-bound Jake (Grant Show), and Donna (Tori Spelling) in her mermaid Halloween costume.
Degrassi Jr. High has nothing on 90210 when it comes to issues-oriented episodes. Not four minutes into the season opener, Brenda announces she is five days "late." "I love Dylan, and I thought I knew what we were doing" she tells BFFs Kelly and Donna, "but I'm beginning to get the feeling that it wasn't worth it." Other episodes address abstinence, child abuse, the physically challenged, sexual orientation, racism, rape, and steroids. A heartbreaking story arc concerns David shunning his former best friend, Scott, who returns from an Oklahoma vacation all urban cowboy, making him even more of an outcast with the popular kids. "Cool it with the guns," David cautions, foreshadowing tragic events to come in the episode "The Next 50 Years." Throwing something of a wet blanket on precious memories of the show is the substitution of generic songs for 90210's originally killer soundtracks of alternative and classic rock and golden oldies. Today was crazy! I managed to do a ton of things away from home with only a hint of anxiety or panic.

This morning, Jesse and I went to Winn Dixie for diapers and got Jeremy a valentine's present. We got him a Hershey's bar bouquet and some flowers, and a card. I would have gotten Jesse one of the huge stuffed animals if I'd had the money but I didn't and he didn't seem interested anyway. LOL

When we got home we all went to the Game Stop and traded several games. Jeremy got a new (older and used) game that he wanted and he got me Gran Turismo 5! That was my "valentine." Maybe I'll still get a card or some flowers...or a skinnier herringbone silver chain for my diamonds. Hint hint? Haha!

After that, we had lunch and then Jesse and I went to his Godfather's, and our wonderful friend JR's, house. We finally got his Christmas tree down for him and played outside for a while. Jesse walked around all over the yard and played with his Flintstone's car. He hardly fell at all and when he did, even on the concrete, he always caught himself amazingly and never cried or got scared or hurt - he'd just pop back up and go for it again.

When we left, even against my better judgement (because of my anxiety) we brought a load of stuff with us. The headboard for our bed hung over the tail gate, which really freaked me out, but we got home safely and without incident with that, the mirror for our dresser, a beautiful painting and Jesse's indoor/outdoor play yard (a huge octagonal baby gate contraption).

After we got home, my Daddy stopped over and played with Jesse. He watched Jesse act crazy in the tub and we had great laughs. Then we fed Jesse together and my Daddy put Jesse to bed (with the exception of my changing Jesse's diaper). After Jesse was asleep, I managed to put the king size headboard on the bed by myself, after the misadventure of the lost nut, and now here I am - dog tired but so happy and more excited about life than I have been in almost two years, which is when my anxiety started to really take hold of me - about the middle of my pregnancy with Jesse.

I had an amazing day with all my favorite people in the world (except my Mom but I did talk to her on the phone), and I am so proud of myself for taking another step towards the life I want to have for and with my precious and deserving little boy.

I included the angel statuette blowing a kiss, strategically placed to blow on Jesse, in the collage because I pushed my limits today for him (and Jeremy!) and angels helped me along. People who spoke to me, smiled at me, a guy at a store who flirted with me and made me feel nice about myself...all that was what helped me to be less afraid and find a little more confidence. Also, the extra Klonopin I took this morning helped. But mostly it was the angels around me.

I could have edited the photos but I was too lazy. I'm tired! :-) That feels awesome - to be tired from something besides just chasing Jesse all day!

Today was a good day. I had history class first period, and no math... Although I did have health... Well, oh well. It gave me lunch with DV ^^
We kinda played... footsie? Haha. I dunno. Well anyway. We talked at the lunch table with our friends and then once we had to go back to class, we walked out together and he gave me a really nice hug. I like his hugs.
So after those last two periods, I walked around school with my ex and best friend, waiting for him to text me, and when he did, he told me to meet him outside of the cafeteria. I did and we sat in there, just talking about random things. I stole his hat ^^ But then we walked around and to his locker before we went outside to start walking where we needed to. He had to walk to work, and I had to walk home.
Once we had to part ways, he gave me another really good hug and uh... Yeah... Kissed me... Twice... >.< And I just have to say... He's a really good kisser :D
I know he doesn't want a relationship (and I'm okay with that now), but still. I like him. We're supposed to hang out soon.

With Journey of a Gemini, R&B smoothie Donell Jones bounces back after a four-year lapse famously littered with personal and professional fiascos. Where a lot of artists might overthink such a momentous return to the spotlight, though, he displays an astrologically correct tendency to let his instincts guide him, and the result is a disc that sounds both tight stitched and effortless. The song cycle follows a beguiling pattern: when Jones isn't seducing somebody, a la the shamelessly sexed-up "Apple Pie," "Can't Wait," or "Ooh Na Na," he's emptying his heart into a dusky ballad like "Portrait of a Woman." Or else he's just reminding the world that he can crank out a hit and have a near-criminally good time doing it. While "Better Start Talking" gets backing from Jermaine Dupri and the other standout selections here boast top-tier production talent--Tim & Bob hook him up on "I'm Gonna Be" and Ryan Leslie lubes up the Bun B number "If You Want" till it's perfectly squeakless--Jones commands a distinctive kind of cool throughout. This journey may not lead him where his last disc did, which would be to the No. 3 position on the Billboard 200, but it's way worth following his trail markers anyway. --Tammy La Gorce
