    chinese calendar
  • The Chinese calendar is a lunisolar calendar, incorporating elements of a lunar calendar with those of a solar calendar. It is not exclusive to China, but followed by many other Asian cultures.

    and baby
  • (And babies) And babies (December 26, 1969) is an iconic anti-Vietnam War poster.M. Paul Holsinger, "And Babies" in , Greenwood Press, 1999, pg. 363 The poster uses the now infamous color photograph of the My Lai Massacre taken by U.S. combat photographer Ronald L. Haeberle in March 1968.

    gender
  • (in languages such as Latin, Greek, Russian, and German) Each of the classes (typically masculine, feminine, common, neuter) of nouns and pronouns distinguished by the different inflections that they have and require in words syntactically associated with them. Grammatical gender is only very loosely associated with natural distinctions of sex

  • The state of being male or female (typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones)

  • a grammatical category in inflected languages governing the agreement between nouns and pronouns and adjectives; in some languages it is quite arbitrary but in Indo-European languages it is usually based on sex or animateness

  • sex: the properties that distinguish organisms on the basis of their reproductive roles; "she didn't want to know the sex of the foetus"

  • The property (in nouns and related words) of belonging to such a class

  • Gender is the wide set of characteristics that are seen to distinguish between male and female. It can extend from sex to social role or gender identity. As a word, "gender" has more than one valid definition.

Chinese New Year: A WikiFocus Book (WikiFocus Book Series)

Chinese New Year: A WikiFocus Book details Dates, Mythology, Public holiday, Chunyun, Festivities, Preceding days, First day, Second day, Cuisine, Practices, Gift exchange, Markets, Fireworks, Clothing, Symbolism and impact of Chinese New Year.

Chinese New Year – often called Chinese Lunar New Year although it actually is lunisolar – is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. Despite its winter occurrence, in China it is known as "Spring Festival," the literal translation of the Chinese name ?? (Pinyin: Chun Jie), owing to the difference between Western and traditional Chinese methods for computing the seasons. The festival begins on the first day of the first month (Chinese: ??; pinyin: Zheng Yue) in the traditional Chinese calendar and ends with Lantern Festival which is on the 15th day. Chinese New Year's Eve, a day where Chinese families gather for their annual reunion dinner, is known as Chu Xi (??) or "Eve of the Passing Year."

interesting phrases on the chinese calendar

interesting phrases on the chinese calendar

for a rather simple person like myself, it's not quite a task to find simple joy in life.

I love the Chinese calendar, there are 'hidden abstract' wisdom if you look carefully. Today, for instance, it's about 'Learning'.

It says on the right 'A blade is rusty when left unpolished'.. on the left 'A person is outdated without learning'. (translated in my best ability to English)

I assume the two lines are to be read from right to left, since the ancient Chinese writings are written from right to left. This sometimes caused some beautiful confusion and led to today's Panda bear name in Chinese (xiong mao, mao xiong)

This artwork is from a Chinese calendar given to us by a coworker in Shenzhen for Chinese New Year. There are 3 watercolors. I would love to get more and cover the entire wall in them.
