    lamp shades
  • (lamp shade) lampshade: a protective ornamental shade used to screen a light bulb from direct view

  • (Lamp shade) A lampshade is a fixture that covers the lightbulb on a lamp to diffuse the light it emits. Conical, cylindrical and other forms on floor-, desk- or table top-mounted as well as suspended lamp models are the most common and are made in a wide range of materials.

  • (Lamp Shade) The shade serves the important function of blocking the glare from a light bulb and is usually the most decorative part of a lamp. The lamp shade can be made of glass, fabric, metal, or other more creative materials.

  • A torchiere (tour-she-AIR or tour-SHARE), or torch lamp, is a lamp with a tall stand of wood or metal. Originally, torchieres were candelabra, usually with two or three lights.

  • The lower surface of a room, on which one may walk

  • shock: surprise greatly; knock someone's socks off; "I was floored when I heard that I was promoted"

  • A level area or space used or designed for a particular activity

  • a structure consisting of a room or set of rooms at a single position along a vertical scale; "what level is the office on?"

  • All the rooms or areas on the same level of a building; a story

  • the inside lower horizontal surface (as of a room, hallway, tent, or other structure); "they needed rugs to cover the bare floors"; "we spread our sleeping bags on the dry floor of the tent"

BSSR-House by Huib van Wijk.

ILBAGNOALESSI dOt is a collection whose design steps off from the promise that its individual pieces should not distract from the wish to purge the body of impurities. Every component of each item should be in the service of relaxation. It should be clear that the combination of all pieces in the collection proceed from the individual strength of each one, which has its own role to play though without being overbearing. Altogether, it is a well-balanced collection whose aim is to allow its users to enjoy to the full quintessential element our planet has to offer, namely water.

Design by Wiel Arets. He is one of the proponents of contemporary architecture. A singular architect, independent thinker, an integral part of the Dutch architecture scene while still remaining entirely unique, Wiel Arets does not follow trends nor can he be easily classified in a specific category. A proponent of the ontological rather than representational approach to architecture (K. Frampton), his work tends toward the regularity of the parts but is not minimalist in a reductive sense. It involves an extremely high level of intellectual complexity while also being quite concrete and targets a wide audience with attention and modesty. A master of using materials both in their crudest and most surprisingly refined forms, his architecture does not centre on the sculptural or iconic representation of form like many of his colleagues but tends toward a condensation and intensity that create the special aura of Lightness and Consistency that characterizes his work. The ILBAGNOALESSI "Dot" bathroom design exemplifies one of his typical compositional strategies: a recourse to unfamiliar juxtapositions, the use of at times conventional forms alongside unconventional ones. The result produces a subtly refined sense of Weightlessness that is rare in modern product design: a good example of how much architecture has still to give to contemporary design.

The strength in our concrete floor: Concrete floors deserve better treatment than just being walked on. An polished concrete floor by Husqvarna Hiperfloor™ will really make you appreciate the advantages of having concrete as an exposed floor surface. Dirty, grey concrete floors are transformed into brilliant, easy-clean, environmentally-friendly and durable polished concrete floors. It simply requires some thought.
- Easy to clean
- Modern and elegant
- Unbeatable durability
- Environmentally friendly
- Economical

Concrete: The fact that concrete is a tough and durable material has been common knowledge for thousands of years. Ancient traces of the material dating back some 7000 years have been discovered and some of the most famous buildings from the Roman Empire, including the Pantheon, were built of concrete. Yet in spite of this, knowledge of making concrete was forgotten. It wasn’t until the 17th century that concrete was rediscovered and once more became one of the most common construction materials of our time. Husqvarna Hiperfloor™ is now taking concrete to the next level with the polished concrete floor.

Our beautiful floor: Its Latin name, concretum, has become synonymous throughout history with strength and durability. Husqvarna Hiperfloor™ is the revolutionary flooring concept with a technique that makes concrete more than just strong and hard-wearing. The technique is as simple as it is ingenious. Husqvarna machines and diamond tools grind and polish concrete floors to remove the surface paste and expose the stronger concrete beneath. The result of this process is a stronger, more durable, shiny and beautiful polished concrete floor. The environment and your bottom line both benefit too.

Bokito: bloody floor

Bokito: bloody floor

No it's not all blood you see here, the big dark spots are part of the 'authentic' floor of this restauarant. Phew !

One woman was taken to hospital with more than one hunderd bite wounds and three others were injured following the escape of a male gorilla at Rotterdam's Blijdorp zoo on Friday. Two other people were injured during the evacuation and one zoo worker is suffering from shock after coming face to face with the animal. The zoo was crammed with people because of the holiday weekend.

The gorilla Bokito which escaped from Rotterdam's Blijdorp zoo on Friday afternoon went on view to the public again on Saturday. But the gorillas' outside enclosure remains closed while the investigation into how the silverback, who weighs 180 kilos, managed to cross a wide ditch full of water to get to the public areas.

Meanwhile, a zoo official said the woman who was attacked and dragged off by Bokito appeared to have been deliberately targeted.

She was a season ticket holder and visited the zoo on a daily basis, spending a lot of time at the gorilla enclosure. The gorilla made straight for her on his escape, ignoring several children, news agency ANP reported.

The woman is under sedation in hospital where she is undergoing several operations. She has a broken wrist and lower arm and was bitten a number of times.
