Aluminum Roller Shutters

    roller shutters
  • (Roller-shutter) A roller shutter, roller door or sectional overhead door is a type of door or window shutter consisting of many horizontal slats (or sometimes bars or web systems) hinged together. The door is raised to open it and lowered to close it.

  • (Roller Shutter) This is a door made of a number of narrow steel flats joined together horizontally. They are fitted into vertical guides at either end which allow them to slide up and down. The narrow slats enable the door to be rolled up around a tube at the top.

    aluminum
  • The chemical element of atomic number 13, a light silvery-gray metal

  • Aluminum was the second album from NYC band Gods Child, littered with damaged guitars, distressed mellotron, and raw vocals. Produced by Tim Palmer (who has worked with such acts as Pearl Jam, Sponge, and Mission UK) the album features a spaced-out aura, solid musicianship and soaring sonics.

  • a silvery ductile metallic element found primarily in bauxite

  • Aluminium ( ) or aluminum ( ) is a silvery white member of the boron group of chemical elements. It has the symbol Al and its atomic number is 13. It is not soluble in water under normal circumstances.

I made this image with a custom table I built inspired by some designs I'd seen in various places. Its basically a little platform w/ rollers on it, and a u-shaped piece of aluminum that acts to guide the wheels and the platform in a straight line as I pulled on a chain attached to the platform. To start the momentum in the water I give this chain a pull, and when the platform runs into a bump-stop at the end of the table, the water goes flying. I have a flash firing behind the background (a piece of translucent foamcore-ish material). The flash is wirelessly controlled by radio slaves, and the camera is fired by hand and eye coordination. With some practice, I was able to get the actions down to where when the platform hits the bump stops, I would release the shutter via the release cable, which would then in turn fire the flash... and thus we have the image in front of us. I haven't used any sound or photogate triggers as of yet, but I'm interested in trying some out if any one has any tips. Next time I post one of these I shall also post a set-up shot if anyone is interested... so stay tuned.

Day 59: Foiled

Day 59: Foiled

Foiled
So I am tired and somewhat uninspired today...I knew this challenge was going to be a roller coaster ride when I started it. It seems uninspired days are directly tied to bad days at work...funny how that works. Anyway this was a bank shot that I conceptualized a while back but was just waiting for a bad day to click the shutter and take my easy out. I burnt some aluminum foil with a match which created the brown soot and me being me put my finger in it to try to make a good finger print.

Camera Data
I had my macro lens equipped and one flash set up off camera. Not too much of a challenge here other than keeping the camera level so the entire finger print was in focus. The camera data can be found below.

D90 | 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 | 1/100 sec | f5.6 | 80mm Macro | Off Camera Flash
