1. Right away I knew that I wanted my theme to be fun and girly. I absolutely love Marilyn Monroe and every single one of her quotes! So I put my idea together with a favorite Monroe quote "Beneath the makeup, and behind the smile, I am just a small girl in a big world wishing for the world." I gathered glamourous materials such as nail polish, makeup, makeup brushes, rings, and a perfume bottle and placed them on a pink leather chair to use as the background. I turned off all the lights in the room leaving it pretty dark, and then just used one lamp shooting straight toward the objects. I shot this set-up for quite a few shots at different angles and distances, and never really liked any of the photos that I captured. I think there was just too much clutter of stuff and a lot of the shadows were being hidden by the other objects. So I took away everything except for the 2 rings that I had out there. Now, it was just the pink background, and these 2 rings. I kept the same lighting, and started shooting again. I definitely knew that I loved the ring idea better than the "makeup" idea. So when I finally chose one that I liked, I paired it with another quote by Marilyn Monroe that I love and that I felt the photo represented well: ""I believe that everything happens for a reason. The reason I felt like this quote matched the photo well is because the open and empty space surrounding the two simple rings makes it seem like the ending of someone's journey is so clear and they have finally reached the end to happiness. And how the quote says that certain things fall apart so that better things can fall together, shows through in the two rings overlapping one another and just being so elegant and simple and peaceful looking. :)
2. I really like the value in this photo of the pink chair/background because the lighting left a lighter tone/shine on the very front of the chair/photo frame and it slowly faded back into the normal tone of the chair from there, and then at the very back of the chair/background it fades to pure black. :) I also like how the rings are a very small subject matter because of the large area of background, yet they are still the dominant part of the photo by far and they have that complete dominance feeling over the compisition of the entire photo. Also, I love the shadows of the rings that the lighting created. They are very dark and prominent, and it's cool that although the dark parts of the photo were able to reach their peak of darkness, the highlights of the photos (on the rings) were able to reach their peak as well creating a great contrast between the two. :)
3. My choice in camera angle was based off of the shape of the set-up that I was working with. The chair that I set up on was more wide than it was long, so the horizontal frame worked a lot more in favor of this. I did shoot some vertical ones as well though, just to see what those looked like and if perhaps they would work, but looking back I was right and they just didn't work as well. At first, I wanted to get a more close up shot (macro) but for some reason the camera was getting way too blurry when I would go up close, so I had no choice but to back up from the rings. Looking back it was kind of a happy accident because I actually like the photo a lot that the rings look so secluded and "alone" and peaceful set up against an empty plain and open background. :)

The highlight of my day: it rained.
I had planned to have dinner with Dan, but by the end of the day he didn't feel like getting out. So we stayed home and had dinner with my dad.
I'm waiting for an eyeshadow palette I won off of eBay to arrive. It also comes with a 7brush set, I hope they're good. I've been searching all over for noce makeup brushes without paying a fortune. I can't wait to play with all the colors. :P I'll be sure to post pics when It comes.
