Garden Overview:
The first sentence out of everyone's lips when they wander through the garden is, "This place is a sanctuary." Brian Tracey said, "Set peace of mind as your highest goal and organize your entire life around it." Our garden makes peace of mind easy. You enter this space of tranquil abiding through aged cedar gates and immediately relax. The backyard is divided into four "rooms". The cedar deck, the brick patio, the grass rotunda, and the arched trellis leading to the native California area, is a haven for birds, bees, butterflies--and people.
You enter the front yard through two brick pillars and a cedar gate into the brick and flagstone mosaic with a millstone centerpiece that leads to the rosemary lined steps to the red front door. The porch, with its pale green wicker furniture, provides an ideal spot for reading, reflecting, sipping tea or mint juleps, or gazing into the garden. You can hear the buzz of the bees gathering pollen from the roses and lavender, smell the fragrant scent of the roses winding around the handrail, and enjoy the warm breezes on a pleasant afternoon.

Bog standard Edwardian softwood doors.
All were painted. Top coat on all was a heavy gloss white, some over full-door Bucknell boards, all coating everything including door furniture. All were stripped in an alcaline bath by PJ Pine of Central Hill, Upper Norwood.
I've applied (indifferently) a 'glaze' bought from Lidl: (acrylate suspensions, iron oxide, glycol) in "oak" shade, in order to hide the multitude of injuries and sins to which the doors have been subject.
They are nothing special, but now have a dirt- and grease-resistant coating.
