poor lonely shelving unit
this was a shelving unit i bought when i first moved to brooklyn. i had wanted one of these for so long, but never lived anywhere where it made sense, and it worked great in the room i had. When i bought it though, i decided that i would never move myself again, that i would always hire movers. so when i had to move out of my place, i hired these guys, cheap and amateur, admittedly, but conscientious as well. in moving the unit down the one stairwell to the street, they banged it up and split the veneer so much that i hardly wanted to keep it. which was fine, because it was too large to fit in their van. despite my mentioning how large it was when i called them. for the cost to hire someone to move it to my storage unit, i would be halfway to owning a new one, that wasn't beat to hell. (did i mention this was one of the hottest days of the summer?) So i taped "Free" to it, and too a couple of pictures to post on CL. It lasted about 20 minutes before a couple in an suv came by and picked it up. i went down and helped them. they had a newborn. the guy was english and the girl was friendly, but lazy and a total scammer. she used to temp and told me about how she would screw around at her temp jobs and how they never paid for furniture, they just found stuff on the curb. so yeah, farewell old friend.
My Queen - Forgotten Memories Discarded On The Street
I wonder what defines one more, what you remember, or what it is you forget.
This picture I took is of the detail on a piece of worn furniture discarded on the st. The dresser looked as though even new, it was a cheaply made knock off of an impressive piece of furniture from a regal period.
The poorly crafted metal face of a "Queen", pulled me closer. Made me wonder, who brought this piece of furniture when it was new? Was their aspirations to have a imitation of regal furniture so great, that this sad, mass produce, poorly made piece was good enough to satisfy that burning ember in their Soul?
And why now, after obvious years of hard wear and tear, was their symbol of higher aspirations so carelessly discarded on the street? So many questions this poorly crafted detail, on this worn beaten piece of wood sparked in my mind.
Did the original owner even remember why they brought this in the 1st place? A symbol of more, than now looked like nothing more than old, out dated garbage - yet once meant the world - to someone.
The Sad, Metal Face of a Queen, imprinted on a cheap piece of furniture, now carelessly discarded on a poorly kept street - did pull at my heart. The question I should ask myself, "Is why was that so?".
