Mission Style Dining Table
- The Mission Revival Style was an architectural movement that began in the late 19th century and drew inspiration from the early Spanish missions in California.

"New Years Resolution #4 - The Dining Room"
In my previous life, I had a great dining room set. Mission style, it was huge. But not very practical for a person who downsizes, so I sold it about 5 or 6 years ago. Ever since I have talked about getting a smaller table and chairs. I had something picked out at my last place but never got around to getting it.
I have more room here and have several options selected, but....the space is still empty. This seems to be a reoccurring theme in my life lately, and I think I know why.
In my previous lucrative career in Information Technology, I just bought what I wanted, but in my new career as a chef, the money does not flow as freely and so I have become more frugal. Perhaps too frugal. I now anguish over the smallest of "luxury" purchases.
So, this year is the year. Make a decision. Do we continue to eat at the coffee table or is it time for a grown up table and chairs. If so, get the damned thing!
Oh and by the way...no it is not a Pottery Barn dining room I have picked out. Celebrity chefs buy their furniture at Pottery Barn. The rest of us chefs buy knock-offs elsewhere.
The horror upon our arrival!
ABF moving trucks are simply trailers with no tiedown spots for your load. When you're done packing you place their bulkhead in front of your stuff and secure these pressure bars across it.
When we opened the doors, we found that the bulkhead had collapsed forward and they had placed the orange bar for more support. Considering leaning against the bulkhead was a massive trailer, we had to sneak our way in by removing the right panel of wood from the bulkhead, leaving only the bars you see in this picture. Then we proceeded to unload some of the stuff pushing our items forward, and thus we didn't die.
But...it was very depressing how much of our stuff had broken or had gotten mangled, including our only serious piece of furniture, a mission-style dining table. We still don't know the damage to our boxes, since we're living in temporary housing for the time being.
