my brother asked me to play some new songs for him today
so i played two new ones cause that is the length of his attention span even though i probably have about ten new songs i want to play for someone, for anyone who would listen and wouldn't make me feel like they were doing me a favor
but he listened and he said they were nice, clever, and even pretty during that one part, maureen
it's weird that he cares about that stuff now cause he never used to, he used to come into my room when i'd be playing or writing and say really rude things
either i'm improving or he's getting nicer
probably both
he is not the kind of person who cares about those sorts of things
he cares about photo opportunities and about expensive shoes
things like that
he is tired a lot he is working in an office this summer
he is leaving soon
right now it feels like i won't miss him when he goes, he's so rude sometimes and so rigid and judgemental but i know deep down he's all i really have forever
so i better love him as much as possible
it's easier for me to love strangers than my own family sometimes and i'm worried about what that means about me, about my heart
it's not always true though
in fact often it is not but these specific cases are worrying me
i guess what i am saying is that in order for me to truly dislike someone i have to know them very, very well
and only then is it possible for me to not like you, truly
such a rare occurance though, how often do i not like someone
i can only think of one or two people i've ever known that i really did not like, i like everyone a little, some people a lot

i remember earlier this summer, sitting on matthew's carpet, when he said, i can't help it and i feel like a creep but i fall in love with everyone just a little
i say yeah, it's hard, and i tell him i feel the same way
but really in that moment i just feel good knowing i'm not the only one
and i don't care if people think i love them too much or if i am in love with them or something
because people don't feel loved enough and people don't feel attractive enough or smart enough or enough good things about themselves, truly, deep down, in my opinion
and they certainly don't think enough good things about other people, which also depresses me a lot, especially when people judge the things that other people make, it breaks my heart, all i want to do is say to the person with a rude music blog or with a pretentious look on their face at shows with their arms folded or whatever, i want to say to them, at least they are making things, there are too many people who aren't and it makes me really really sad
so i hope everyone i know thinks i am in love with them for their sake

No Summer Hat

No Summer Hat

This photo was actually taken at the Denver airport awaiting my flight to Dallas. The man in the black cowboy hat walked up to his two friends (both in creme colored hats) and said, "Sorry guys, I don't own a summer hat."

Needless to say, that meant the photo had to be taken and this moment documented.

I have noticed the dark and the light colored hats in the past, but I never thought that they were seasonal like women's shoes. Does this mean men are more aware of colors and the seasons for wearing them? Are they more aware of fashion "rules"? Or, is Brokeback Mountain really what cowboys are all about?

It's worth pointing out just how much of a city-slicker cowboy this man is. Notice his friends with the right colored hats on are both wearing boots while the "no summer hat" man is in tennis shoes!
