There’s plenty bubbling under at Brownswood these days — the house of music headed by the legendary Gilles Peterson, easily one of our favorite talents ever for picking a groove! As with the previous volumes, this set features some of the best up-and-coming artists to fall under Peterson’s ear in recent years — some of whom have issued work elsewhere, some who are making their debut on this set — all coming together for a set of music that has all the best energy and creativity we’ve come to love in Gilles P compilations over the years. The range of styles here is wonderful — jazzy one minute, spacey the next — with bits of hip hop, classic funk, and Latin touches cropping up all over the place — truly a 21st Century blend of sounds, but one with a great ear for the past as well. Titles include “Fragment Zero & I Kept Dubbin” by Kenneth Bager with Gisli, “Prayers For Angry Young Men” by Charlie Dark & Roger Robinson, “Where Would You Be” by Yaw, “Something Important” by Jukes, “A Place To Go” by DJ Day, “How Bout Us” by Katalyst with Steve Spacek, “Get Familiar” by Bullion, “Morning Light” by Rozzi Daime, “Floatin” by Stacy Epps, “Spiral” by The Invisible, “Aurora” by Arun Ghosh, and “Turn Your Lights On” by Emanative with Ahu.
