Pliješ - Sošice

Jazovka
Above the village of Sošice there is Jazovka, a naturally formed pit that became an ossuary. On the bottom of the 40-m deep pit, in 1990 - after the first multiparty elections in Croatia, many human bones, army boots and leather belts were found. These were the victims from the period of the Second World War, as well as from the post-war period. After the establishment of the communist regime in 1945 the captured soldiers and civilians were thrown into the pit. Since the discovery of Jazovka in 1990, a holy mass is celebrated to commemorate the victims every year, on the Sunday closest to May 15.
