    A story for Ludlud.

    The Ship of Fools sails endlessly the endless ocean. Some days it is tossed in storms, some days it is stranded in flat calm, some days meets winds, strong or light, that blow it hither and thither. That is the nature of the ocean.
    In a storm, long ago, so long it is almost forgotten, the compass was struck by lightning, and it is no longer reliable.
    At night, the heavens spin overhead. The day's journey through time and space make it hard to predict what the night's sky will be. The stars are often strange.
    But there are a very few stars that are fixed and by spotting those it is possible to orient the little ship against its vast sea and sky, and so the sailors can reset themselves, and so they know where the sun will rise the following day. These stars, so far away, are a promise of some constancy in the incomprehensible dark
    Fixed stars are few, and sometimes they are hidden by clouds, but any glimpse, even fleeting and between clouds, is comforting, and allows the compass to be reset. Even the sun does not always rise in the same place, but a fixed star is a fixed star.
