The 7th Son of A 7th Son

The 7th Son of A 7th Son

My late great Uncle led a truly charmed life. He always said it was so because he was “The 7th son of a 7th son”. Apparently, per him, many Irish people believe this to be true.

If you believe that old wives' tale and saw what a truly charmed life my great uncle had, well, then it must be true.

My great uncle, his six brothers and one sister loved games, sports, competing, contests, prizes, and playing practical jokes. Whenever something was going on, say, a basketball game at Columbia or Harvard, they made it loads of fun by creating a contest and then they awarded the winner with either a silly whimsical award or something engraved in SILVER.

One thing about my great uncle and his family, gosh, they loved silver and gave it away for any occasion and accumulated it. You name it; they had it in silver… and engraved no less.

This is a wonderful sketch of my great uncle as a bell hop. It is signed by eight people. I assume they were part of some game, contest or whatever which my great uncle won.

I absolutely adore it and it stands on my formal large bookcase in my dining room. Next to it I have a rare bronze (small) statue of Napoleon which I inherited.

For my Flickr groups…

This is a priest's pectoral cross I design based upon 16th-century Russian examples. The frame is sterling silver and can be engraved. The icon is carved in stone by Jonathan Pageau.
