Who Wants a Clean House?
Sarah and I are big of the show Clean House. (Sarah being the #1 Super Fan). If you've never seen the show, it's about a group of kooky style people who go into really cluttered houses, clean 'em out, sell the stuff at a yard sale and then redo the house to be all organized. Sarah found out that one of the yard sales was going to be near us, so we got Sarah's mom and we all went! It was a singularly unique mix of a live TV show and a very real yardsale going on at the same time. So we picked up some crap, haggled for it, all while being filmed. It was actually pretty fun. Reality TV baby! Who knows if they'll use the footage of us when the show airs. I mean I'm sure they'll use *me*. I hope to parlay my appearance into my own show. I just need a really solid agent.

FINALLY we're having the yard sale. There are so many clothes out here, and this only about 75% of what I'm putting out.
I also have my scarves, purses, and keychains that i've out for sale, and lavender bouquets from my herb garden. It's a lovely little sale. Too bad none of you live close enough to visit it!

Epoxy puddling under the sink
The epoxy flows like water. Which means that it will come out of any holes in the channel. Here, there was an imperfect seal where the fiber optic cable came down through the countertop, leading to a medium sized puddle of epoxy in the bottom of the cabinet. We had anticipated that this could happen, and were able to clean it up before it set.

“Not to be Believed”
I entered Heaven.
Of course, nothing like Heaven as it is painted. But I'm sure any description of Heaven could have existed there.
What I saw was a perfection of color pattern and sensations. Most things were made of segmented "bricks" of colored light. Not uniform in size, but fitting together perfectly, like the scales on a snake.
Every part of this heaven world moves incredibly fast and my mind can barely register- in fact if I try to focus on something specific in the rapidly moving scene, I get the message, "you don't need to DO anything. Just receive."
All shapes are rounded and geometric. Everything moves with precise fluidity - like robotic octopi tentacles. Lot of gold and white light. At times I - or parts of my body- are submerged in the color/light/liquid. There is a gravity that makes me feel held down...I want to relax every muscle and surrender fully.
It feels like everything is perfect. Perfection in sound. Perfection in visual delight. Perfection in sensation.
It is though some higher consciousness - with a creator's understanding of my brain - has taken control of my synapses. I am experiencing pure delight in every way - and experiencing some sensations that I didn't knew existed.
Something akin to an body orgasm + the feeling of swallowing a big gulp of water while thirsty + the elation of winning the 50 yard dash in 6th grade.
I feel as though my body is motionless - yet I am moved quickly around. Like I am being carried by this light. Like a living conveyor belt of liquid, translucent gold.
This first portion of the experience is beyond mind. There are no lessons or teachings that my human brain can grasp. It feels more like a peek at something. Perhaps a preview.
Perhaps it is like a divine, "Now downloading, please wait" graphic as deeper awareness - beyond conscious thought -flows into me.
Later when I have more control of my mind, I try to process, I find myself puzzled: Does this experience exist solely in my mind? Or is this experience trans-dimentional? Was that an internal or external experience of the divine oneness? In the end, it does not matter. Whether it exists within the cosmic DNA of my physical being, or in some other portion of the unknown universe - it does exist. Even as an idea = it does exist. And if it does exist, then the boundaries of the universe must be redrawn.

The intense portion of the experience ends rather abruptly after 10 minutes. But is followed by a longer period where the memories are vivid and my perceptions and thinking are coated with the golden bliss. Like my mind and body are covered in a lubricant of pure light and love.
The thoughts that run through me seem to bridge the 2 worlds. I keep my eyes closed and speak. What I share to others in the room has nothing to do with my experience in the light...but is influenced it.
I see the beauty of the human experience. In contrast to the perfection of the golden light, the human experience has a perfection, too. All the sorrow and trials and love and elation are perfect. The highs & lows of human roller coaster are a different part of perfection. The perfection of duality. Pure love - heaven - golden bliss - is, well, perfect. But it could get boring.
And in all the Universe, I would guess that the human experience is among the least boring.
So, as the All-One, non-dual, cosmic consciousness, why wouldn't I spend a few millennia experiencing the gorgeous drama of humanity?
Just as we can delight in a horror movie...
Or enjoy the joy and frustration in a child's soccer game...
Or happily work towards the success of a project for work...
We can enjoy the game of life.
Being human is all about participating in these small human dramas and letting ourselves feel the tension of it. We enjoy it because you know it isn't truly "real." We know that it will end.
But any of these things can be horrific if you forget that you have taken on the experience by choice.
We can enjoy all the struggles of our human lifetime - knowing that they, too, will end. We allow ourselves to fall into the experience so that we can feel the intensity of it.
*** Innocence Lost ***
Socialization is the process of being taught a worldview. We are indoctrinated to believe that the culture - not anything internal - is the source of our happiness. Our jobs, our status, & our bodies are what is important.
This is taught.
A child doesn't require the guidelines of socialization to seek their bliss. As they grow up, they are given layers of beliefs that cover up and stifle the divine heartsong.
This isn't done with malice. On the contrary, we do it with love. Parents, teachers, & preachers all feel the responsibility of teaching a child how serious it all is.
At some point, we cross the threshold and go from following our heartsong to following the rules and trying to fit it. (or perhaps NOT fit it - but usuall

Delicious Colorful Raw
Kale Pache is one of the delicious Iranian food. Many people from different age grriup eat this delicious food in very early morning around 5am before they go to work or climb the mountains.
Kalleh Pacheh
Kalleh Pacheh or the sheep’s head and hooves soup is probably the most traditional of Iranian breakfast dishes.
Kalleh Pacheh can be prepared using various recipes.
Ingredients:
1 clean lamb’s head, 6 clean lamb’s hooves,
2 large whole onions, 4 cloves garlic,
1 cinnamon stick,
4 bay leaves,
1 tbsp turmeric, and
ample amounts of salt and pepper.
Method of preparation:
In a large pot, soak head and hooves in cold water over night. Drain from the soaking water and cover in clean water. Bring to the boil and then change the water. In the fresh water add all ingredients with head and hooves, and bring to boil. Simmer for 8 hours to become tender, and then serve with fresh bread and lime juice.
There are many restaurants in various cities in Iran where customers go and eat Kalleh Pacheh every morning. Its popularity is under threat, however, from the spread of fast food and from the medical doctors warning about the dish’s high cholesterol. Some people drink a cup of strong tea (in Persian: Chai-e Por Rang) after eating Kalleh Pacheh to neutralize the detrimental effects of high cholesterol. Research works suggest that drinking black tea may reduce the risk of Coronary Heart Diseases.
Ankimo - Monkfish Liver
Most semi-authentic or better Japanese restaurant would serve this, but only a hand full of restaurants make this themselves and actually do this well. "Little Tokyo" in San Dimas is the second place that serves ankimo that I actually really enjoy.
The liver is rubbed with salt and rinsed in sake. After its cleaned out of veins, it is then rolled and steamed. It is traditionally served with ponzu, green onions, and daikon.

Penny: Like, what year were you born in?

Penny: We brought a tape recorder so you can talk into it and we can listen when we get home.
Maria: Oh, Have a nice day and a nice year in your home there, and enjoy yourself, where you can run all around in the grass with all your friends, yes, that is nice.
Penny: Christy wanted to know what your parents were like.
Maria: Well, I will show you. Did I have my bible here? [she gets her bible]

Penny: They wanted to know what was your mother’s name and your father’s name?
Maria: Well, my mother's name was Salmine. See [shows name in bible bible], Selma gets her name from her. ... My mother did not like Salmine. ... That is a nice name, why didn't you call her Salmine ... That is the name you saw in the book there. ... and my father's name was John, that is another John, John Edward. That was my father's name. That is another John.

Maria: I think my mother had seven, but she raised three, three. Well, Eddie ... Eddie was only two years old. We went up the street one morning ... This little girl had whooping cough ... Maria: [misunderstands question] Christian ... My mother was only 2 years old when her mother died. So there he was left ... baker ... he never remarried and raised these seven children, and my mother was only 2 years old when her mother died, and he never remarried. He was a very religious man. He lived it.
Penny: What did he do for a living?
Maria: He was a baker
Maria: He was the dean of a college there [Note: He was the only school teacher, not a dean of a college. His daughter Frideborg would become the principle of the high school and the stories have become conflated and exaggerated]
Penny: What was your last name before you were married?

I was 9 months old when my father had the house built.

Maria: He was on a ship when he met my mother ... They had a cleaning lady and a lady that did the cooking.
Penny: I would like to have two ladies [to help at home].
Maria: He was gone for 5 years, he ran away from college. Selma said I can't sleep ... try it for one month and I will talk to your teacher. Try it for a month. Selma. When she got the report ... I am not going to make the mistake that my father did. ... She was happy. ... He was gone 5 years and he was in Norway and must have liked her. He said he wanted her to go up to Sweden to meet his father and mother before they were married. I don't think his father was alive. [Note: his father was alive and died in 1901]... I think the father had died. He was gone for 5 years . He had four sisters and two of them were nurses, and his father wanted him to be a pastor. If my grandfather had not been so strict, he may have been a pastor. With Selma ... and she did and she got a good report.
Penny: So they came to the United States right after they were married?
Maria: ... Brides ... She washed the chicken off and put it in the oven. You can never take that back. Your supposed to take that out.
Penny: They didn’t know anyone here?
Penny: How old were you when you started school?
Maria: Number 11 school ... firehouse
Penny: Do you remember any friends from school
Maria: I remember the day I graduated
Penny: Did you go all the way to 12th grade?

a penny. That is how much my mom gave us for each walnut that we picked up. Those nuggets fell from the billowing trees in the autumn and then stained our shoes, our hands and our finger nails a dark shade of henna for weeks. If we didn’t get to them, they would become a mess and the crows would start dive bombing our cats in the yard.
We have two walnut trees at our grandparents house here in France and this year instead of waiting for them to all fall, I picked some early (end of june) off the branches— firm and green to make Vin de Noix. A hard alcohol steeped with green walnuts. I added my own little concoctions to make it “Vietnamese Style” though I don’t even know if they make this French eau de vie or not. Grandma had a bunch of those old French canning jars that I coveted. You know the ones with the antique hinges and orange rubber lips? I put them to use for this recipe.
Vietnamese Style Vin de Noix
9 green walnuts, hacked into quarters
Splash of vanilla or half a vanilla bean, split
3 Tbsp of palm sugar
Two good sized peels (not the pith) of lemon or lime
5 green cardamom pods
2 cloves
5 Vietnamese peppercorns (citrusy medium flavored pepper) more pepper info here
2 cups of Vodka
1 cup of white wine
Wear gloves when cutting the walnuts and clean your area as soon as possible, because the innocent looking beige juice that comes out soon turns to brown and then almost black stain and will get into your cutting board, under your nails, on your countertop, everywhere!
Place the whole lot in a big canning jar with a seal and let it sit for 4 months in a cool place. When it’s ready (dark as night and no longer bitter) strain it twice through a coffee filter into decorative bottles for gifts, cooking or for hoarding, once you taste it you will know why you will want to keep it all for yourself!

About this Photo: It was taken during a recent winter hike in the North Chagrin Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks near our home. Our backyard is part of the ancient forest found in the reservation.
The sound of the gentle rushing water drew me to this picture. Photographers tend to reply on their eyes (sense of sight) in their work. In this case, my ears (sense of hearing) attracted my interest.
In any case, I liked how the snow lined the stream and how some autumn leaves decorated both sides of the stream. For this reason, I entitled this photo "Fall Flows into Winter."
Upon returning home with my photos from the hike, I decided to do some research on this particular location and discovered something interesting. It seems that this was a favorite trading post where Late Woodland Indians (from the Whittlesey Focus I believe) exchanged their ornate jewelry and other treasures with early White explorers who visited Northeast Ohio in the late 1600's and early 1700's. One story claims this very location (by the little waterfalls) is where the term "Indian giver" was coined. It seems that a Late Woodland Indian chief (named Wahoo or was it Yahoo) reneged on a trade he made with a French trapper named Jacques LePew. Originally, the Indian chief gave LePew a wolf he had tamed and befriended for a pair of Gucci designer sunglasses.

I’m a big fan of making life easy, so several shortcuts went into making this image. The bottle was shot without any labels, with a medium softbox behind, and a large octobox in front (camera left). A large white reflector was placed image right, and as close in as I could get without blocking the shot. The background is pure Photoshop, and the bottle was placed on a pedestal stand barely larger than the bottle, so I could get the lighting very close to better cover the 'family of angles'.
The labels were removed with the aid of a wheat bag, but a hot-water-bottle would do just as well. Leave it on the label for at least minute before pealing them off, and have a sheet of A4 (10 x 8) ready to paste them onto. I used the smooth back edge of a craft knife to flatten out a few creases. The labels were then scanned.
I took shots of the bottle with the labels on, and use these as a guide to Free transform the shape of the scanned labels after compositing them onto the bare bottle. There is very little curve at the top of the label because that edge is near the lens axis so appears flat. A curves layer was linked to the label layer to darken it, and a soft brush used to mask it out in line with the lighter strips . This gave the labels depth and made them look real.
The bottle was selected with the Pen tool, and copied to a new layer. I used the clipping path to stroke with a soft dark brush to slightly darken the edges, but did this on a new layer so I could mask in only the bits I wanted. I had some CAs which I fixed with a Hue/saturation layer by desaturating the reds, and reducing tonal value to match. The mask was inverted and painted in where needed.
I could not be arsed to go back in the studio to shoot the glass this evening, so found it with Google. (I’ll do it properly tomorrow) The etched motif was done by making a luminosity mask from the scanned label; filling the selection with white; adding some noise and blur, and finally using layer styles to produce the emboss. This was composited onto the glass with Free transform to follow its shape.
The glass already had the reflection, so I faked the bottle by selecting the bottom inch, and copying to a new layer. This was flipped vertically, and forced to the shape of the bottle with free transform using warp. The tiny shadow was made by Ctrl clicking the bottle layer to load the selection, and filling a new layer with black. This was blurred, and moved into position, and finally cleaned up with a layer mask.
Altogether about two hours work including both studio and Photoshop, and I can swap out the labels in the layer stack to quickly produce all the whites with no more studio time.
Aubrey's Spring
My friend, Steve, and I spent the summer re-opening a trail to the Burro Mile which has been unused for decades now. In late June or early July I was working my way nearly three miles up the trail when I came to a marshy area.
Not wanting to take the trail across a swamp I headed up stream from the marsh hoping to find its source. I did find it.
About 30 yards up, the marshy area apexed at a muddy spring dripping water out of the rocks as it trickled down and spread out across the hillside. I cleaned out the brush and gravel and found the water essentially was coming out of just a small area of pebbles.
The next week I took a 3 foot pvc pipe which I had pointed at one end and had drilled holes in and worked it into the wet gravel and pepples until only an inch or so of the pipe remained sticking out. Within 10-15 minutes the water was running cool and clear. Now the spring is where I refill my water bottles. I always pause here to rest and drink this excellent spring water.
The area around the spring is a maple grove crisscrossed with deer trails. The maples grow leaning over to the side as though they are bent under the weight of the snow which falls deep in this canyon 6-7 months out of the year.
Beyond the maples and down towards the stream bed cottonwoods, willows, birch and finally spruce, douglas fir and pinyon pine grow in abundance along the north face of the canyon.
After walking this trail dozens of times during the summer the image has been seared into my mind and I finally spent a few weeks putting my pen to my memory. I spent about 30 hours on it.
It's like a dream. No?
