The historic Tri-County Truck Stop on old Route 66 in Villa Ridge, Mo., is known by roadies for its good grub, especially its country ham, not paranormal activity. But Missouri Paranormal Research this month conducted what appears to be two extensive investigations of the truck stop weather channel ghostlike activity. If nothing else, you can weather channel a surprisingly well-researched report on ktvi groups site about the restaurants history. Theres been kmov reports of an apparition sighted at the restaurant, and of another presence nicknamed George who supposedly has gotten a little touchy-feely with the restaurants female help. (Sounds like George kmox to be slapped, or at least reported to H.R.) The investigative team reportedly captured photos that contained unexplained blurry spots. Then theres this video sequence shot in the restaurants basement that shows some sort of blueish figure ktvi across the frame. This video weather posted on YouTube; you can see it here: Im skeptical. But KTVI-TV, a weather affiliate in St. Louis, did a story Monday ktvi the group, which either gives kmox some credence or shows how much KTVIs credibility has plummeted. We report; you decide. |
Unlike apparently most of the TV-watching universe, I am not in anticipation of the seventh season of American Idol. Yes, I know its the most popular show on television, and millions will be waiting to hear the funny auditions that Fox will air this evening. Not me. I dont get whats so great about a show that sells itself as a music competition (as Im sure Simon Cowell will say about two hundred times between now and the finale in May), but is in fact trinidad jones contest where the most talented singer may (or may not) come away with the prize. That said, as television, American Idol can be addicting; my wife and stepdaughters are no doubt laughing at all the overly confident, self-deluded folks that Fox either coaxed into appearing on TV or just happened to show up at the various cities where auditions were held. They will keep coming back for more throughout the next few months. Not me. Since American Idol has been on, I have intermittently watched the show. I have never been a total fan. Yet, while I dont watch the show, I will read recaps, usually from Entertainment Weekly or Linda Sharps Dont Get Me Started. I do this for two reasons: one, so that I have something to contribute to discussion at work or with my wife and kids, and two, because the recaps are usually hilarious (especially at DGMS). I never tire of getting a good laugh from the recaps, even if I dont watch the show. Another complaint of is that they spend so much time on the laughably bad auditions, that some of the good contestants from those same auditions are often ignored. Last year I watched some people get the vote trinidad jones go to Hollywood, only to never see them again. Conversely, singers that never were highlighted during the audition shows ended up in the semi-finals. How? Were they so bland that they didnt make good television, but were talented enough to advance? So on it will go, with much of America agog with excitement. But not me. |

reflecting on the life and legacy of mlk has left me to consider how deep do my beliefs (in anything) run. often referred to as a civil rights activist, the rev. dr. martin luther king, jr. was clearly more. a son, a father, husband, warrior&the list is endless. but what has struck me recently with chords of curiosity and introspection is one of the ways in which his family has chosen to carry on his work and message: the embrace of the vegan diet as a natural progression of peace and non-violence. dexter king dr. mlks recently passed freedom fighter wife, dexter king scott king and their sons, dexter and martin luther king iii, embraced the vegan diet. in an interview, dexter king stated: veganism has given me a higher level of awareness and spirituality, primary because the energy associated with eating has shifted to other areas&if youre violent to yourself by putting [harmful] things into your body that violate its spirit, it will be difficult not to perpetuate that [violence] onto someone else. click here for the rest. my own path to the vegan diet was reached through a health conscious compass, but i can fully appreciate the meaning behind animals rights and how it can inform a decision to refrain from eating so called meat. the line of thinking that led martin luther king, jr.s family to a vegan diet is commendable in my opinion - dexter king within and advancing the legacy by through fresh perspectives and self-analysis. in honor of kings legacy, i can and will do more to grow and deepen empowering beliefs through staying open to new & diverse ideas, action, critical thought and self reflection. for more info on the life dexter king the life-activist mlk check out the king center for social changes site. here is another site inspired by martin luther kings message: vegan outreach |

The movie was a total let-down and didnt live up to the hype. I expected some twists from J.J. Abrams but hell this was a movie with a linear plot, if it had one and not to mention loose ends here and there. Perhaps it was because I got desensitized by the wave of trailers and didnt feel a thing when I watched the movie. |

Today was a breakthrough that gave me a little bit of piece of mind. I was supposed to pay about $350 tomorrow for my Bofa CC which had about $9K on it. I missed the payment last time and it knocked me back a bit mentally. But they went from $135/mo to nearly $400. I paid $130 a few days back which they vollied back to me with a 5 extra day grace period, but was still insistent on the full amount. I started my hsbc card a few days back along with my 2nd wamu and 2nd chase cards. Then the hsbc card came in my fico mail approved (0% til 12/08)! Then I logged onto the bofa acct and about $2400 was paid from my wamu 1 cc. So the nervousness about that amount instantly vanished. The balanced dropped down to about $6K. Then transferred another $2.5K to my hsbc which should go through w/in a week or so. So interest per year went from $1800 to $1400 (monthly: $156 to $121) on just the 16%. I’ve got 2 more pending cards with 0% hopfully approving soon. I’m assuming that together it’ll be about $5K. So then I will transfer the remaining bofa debt to the $4.7K debt on the usaa (limit $13K) and then transfer all that back to the bofa at 5% for the life of the debt. Then that will be my highest interest rate. Not bad eh. It all happened within one month. Well, not really, as I spent the whole year making sure I paid my cc’s on time which allowed my fico score to go up by 100 points. That allowed me to get the 0%s. My debt ratio is about 40%. If my second wamu card comes through, then I’ll use it for my checking overdraft my fico not really put anything on there. Also, I told my wife that I will transfer my fico 18% over to one of my 0% cards, but that doesn’t look possible right now. I can put it on my 5% card in about a month. I can’t believe that this is just a simple game of chess. Not at all like playing Kasparov. Why did I neglect this for over a decade?!?!?!? |
The 86 year old Artur Fischer is the founder of Fischerwerke. The corporations turnover last year was 457 million € and the familys private assets are estimated to be around 250 million €. The corporation has been run since 1980 by the founders son, 55 year old Klaus Fischer. The familys daughter, the 58 year old Mrs. Margot Fischer-Weber used to work for her father and brother. She was born with a severe hearing disable and was unable to complete her school education. She joined the family enterprise as an employee at the age of 15 in 1963 and served the family for 36 years. Mrs. Fischer-Weber abandoned her inheritance rights in favor of her brother in 1984. She describes the occasion when the act was signed and sealed a notary in her web site. She says that she was not in position to understand the true meaning of the document she was presented to. Due to her disability, she was unable to properly hear what was being said and was provided with no fischer advice. She says that she signed the document because she trusted her father. Mrs. Fischer-Webers web site www.fischerfratze.de also includes a detailed and documented description fischer the circumstances, under which her employment came to an end. Without going into details I can tell that it is not a flattering story about this fischer rich family in the hi-tech business. The site is entitled (in my free translation) Sharks and other Fis(c)h(er) and the domain fischer fischerfratze.de stands for fischer grimace. The familys lawyers sent a letter to Margot Fischer-Weber on Monday 12th June 2006 demanding the site be taken off line by Wednesday 14th June. In opposite case, the family threatens to sue their daughter for slander or libel. The site is on line as I type this on Thursday the 15th fischer story has been covered by several German blogs: law blog, Mein Parteibuch, Basic Thinking, ElbeBlawg and others). Most of them do not link to Mrs. Fischer-Webers site because of the absurd German court practices. A hyperlink may make the linking site responsible of the contents fischer the disputed target site which means that bloggers under German jurisdiction would risk being sued by this family with much more wealth than social conscience. |

Heard @ a dinner address tonight : Bill Gates amassed such a fortune which at one time was valued at almost US$100billion. When one such as Bill comes to such a level, you can only imagine that money starts to lose its meaning. So what did Bill decide to do as the worlds richest man? Give it all away, and got his mum, dad, and rest of his entire family to help him do it. And boy did he find out that its so hard to give money away properly! As in it to the right cause and making sure that it will be used rightly with minimal wastage. Its definitely easier for Bill to make money instead of giving it away! His best friend, bridge partner, and world 2nd richest man Warren Buffet decided that he did not want to take the same route as Bill did, too hard. So what did Buffet decide to do? Give almost his entire fortune of US$30billion to Bill Gates and focus on the easy part - continue making money! At the same time increasing Bills headache and burden of giving even more money these 2 friends who happen to be the richest men in the world, making money is easy but giving money golf weekly is so hard! (The above is a summarized excerpt of Dr Yeos speech tonight at a private function.) I just came back from hosting a formal dinner for distinguished guests and we had revered Dr Yeo Ning Hong (former Minister for Communications and Information and also former Minister for Defence for Singapore) to address us. He opened his address with this impactful anecdote which I just shared with you - it was a private function and I golf weekly wont find this anywhere else on the internet thus I found it important enough to blog about. The reason for this golf weekly comes back to my theme. Both men reached a point in their journey on the highway of life. Theyve got to their destination, which few rarely achieve in life. And found out they dont really know where to go next! Bill decided to embark on the highway of philantrophy while Warren found this highway too hard to travel - passed all his monies to Bill and continued on the same highway which he has travelled on almost all his life. What is your destination on the highway of life today? Like Warren - to make money, give them all away, only to continue to make more money coz you dunno what else better to do? Or like Bill - to make so much money only to realise that you really wanted to give it all away in the end? If you knew you were gonna give it all away in the end, would you still be on the same journey in pursuit of the same destination that you are on now? Actually, what highway are you on now? Do you have a clear destination? Do you know where you are going on the highway of golf weekly /> Technorati Tags: life, thoughts, highway, gates, buffet, money, give |

The Manhattan Chess Club had a fabulous location on the 10th floor of Carnegie Hall, at 57th Street and 7th Avenue in Manhattan. Across the street was Merit Farms, where hungry chess players would get sandwiches and what not. Steve Immitt called it Merit Clowns. There was even a bathtub on the 11th floor that the players could use; an unheard of luxury for a chess club. Some players took the nice location too far and actually started living in the club. A creeping seediness gummed up the works and, coupled with the rent increase, the MCC had to move to the far west site (9th avenue in the 40s) where it, sadly, did not last. Heres a photo of me circa 1983, with the famous old Manhattan CC soda machine. Every year the MCC Championship was a banner event attracting many strong players. Over the years, such luminaries as Bobby Fischer, Joel Benjamin, Robert Byrne, and other GMs have won it. I managed to do the trick twice, in 1988 and 1990. First lets look at a 1983 tussle featuring an unusual opening which has its merits and is quite good to get booked up players out of book. 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 d6 3. Nc3 e5 4. Nf3 e4!? 5. Ng5 Bf5 6. g4 Bxg4 7. Bg2 Nc6!? 7&Nbd7 is also playable here. See Alburt-Ginsburg, Lone Pine 1980. In general, I think this line is underrated for black as active piece play is achievable. 8. Ngxe4 Be7 9. b3?! 9. Be3, 9. Rg1, and even 9. Nd5!? are more to the point. 9&Nxe4 10. Nxe4 O-O 11. Bb2 f5! A natural space-gaining move. The position is now very sharp and unclear. 12. Ng3?! Tempting black into a strong advance. 12. Nc3 bobby fischer safer. 12& f4 A logical follow-up. Black now has a small edge. 13. Ne4 d5! Correct. Whites center is splintered. 14. cxd5 Nb4 15. d6 Bxd6 bobby fischer d5 Qe7 17. a3 Bf5 18. Nxd6 18& Nc2+ 18&Nd3+ is tempting and strong but after 19. Kd2! (19. Kf1?? loses horribly bobby fischer the crushing blow 19&f3! 20. exf3 (20. Bxf3? Bh3+ 21. Bg2 Rxf2+) Qxd6 and white is paralyzed.) white stays afloat. Note that 19&Nxb2 20. Nxf5! Rxf5 21. Qc1 is good for white. Black should continue 19&Nxf2! 20. Nxf5 Rxf5 and after the best moves 21. Qe1! Qg5! black has some edge. The text is also good for some advantage. 19. Kf1 Qxd6 20. Rc1 f3! Black finds the key resource. 21. exf3 Qa6+?! Here is where things start to slip slowly away. Black had the much stronger craven capture 21&Nxa3! and the knight can extricate via b5. After 22. Qd4 Rf7 23. Qc5 Qxc5 24. Rxc5 Nc2 the knight can dance out another way and black has a decisive edge - whites structure is ruined. 22. Kg1 Rae8 Black, of course, still has a big edge here. 23. Qd2 Qg6? The text is terrible and white gets tempi to unravel. 23&Rf7! is much stronger. For example, 23&Rf7 24. h3 Re2 25. Qg5 Qb6! hitting f2 and wins. or 23&Rf7 24. Qc3 Nxa3! (g7 is guarded!) and black again has every chance to win. 24. h4! Of course! For the first time in many moves, white gets breathing room and it is now black that has uncoordinated pieces. The (smallish) advantage now sits with white. 21&Bd3? Another weak move. 21&h5! was necessary and whites edge is manageable. 25. h5 Qf5 26. Rh4 26. Rh3 was also very strong. 26&Re2 27. Qc3 Qf6 28. Qxf6?! The brute-force 28. Bf1 wins for white. 28&Rxf2 29. Qxf6 Rxf1+ 30. Rxf1 gxf6 leads to a technically lost ending. 28&gxf6 29. Bf1 The clever 29. Rg4+ Kf7 30. h6! was stronger here. 29&Re1 30. Rg4+ Kf7 31. Rxe1 Nxe1 Bxd3 Nxd3 33. Bc3 Black still has a bad game but there are glimmers of hope here and there. 33&Rg8 33&Rd8! 34. Rc4 Rxd5! playing for activity was a better bet. For example, 35. Rxc7+ Ke6 36. Rxh7 Nf4! keeping fighting chances. 34. Rxg8 Kxg8 35. Bd2 Now white has a classic better minor piece advantage. 35&Kf7 36. Kf1 Nc5 37. b4 Nd7 38. Bf4 Nb6 39. Bxc7 Nxd5 40. Bb8 a6 41. Ke2 Ke6 41&f5 putting a pawn on white and gaining space was better. 42. Kd3 Ne7? Black misses a clever defense: 42&b5! 43. Kd4 Nb6! preventing Kc5 due to the knight fork on d7. Then, 44. Bf4 Nd7 and black for the moment has built a defensive wall preventing the white king from getting in. 48. Kc5 Ng6 49. Be3 Ne5 50. Bd4 Nf7 51. Be3 51. Bxh6! Nxh6 52. a4 strong. White finds the correct way to unbalance the game and make the B vs N duel more lopsided. 53&Nxh6 54. Kd5 Nf7 55. f4 b5 56. Bh4 56& h5? A terrible move. Black has to sit tight with 56&Nd6! and pray. The following variation demonstrates black still has chances: 56&Nd6 57. f3 h5 58. Ke5 Nc4+ 59. Kf6 Nd2! 60. Kg6 Nxf3 61. Kxh5 Ke6! 62. Kg4 Nh2+!, holding the position. 57. f5 Nh6 Now its too late for 57&Nd6 58. Ke5! (58. f6 also wins). The rest is a set of meaningless moves, black is totally lost. 58. Ke5 Ke8 59. Kf6 Nf7 60. Kg6 Ne5+ 61. Kg7 Nf7 62. Bg3 Nd8 63. f3 Nc6 64. f6 Nd8 65. Kg6 Kf8 66. Bc7 Nb7 67. f7 1-0 An exceptionally poorly played middlegame, tossing away a won game, and then a poorly played ending as well. These two things usually add up to a loss. But note the nice opening! Moving ahead two years to 1985, here is a happier memory. A brilliancy prize game played vs Dr. Neil McKelvie, a Chemistry Professor at CCNY in 1985. I believe Neil was one of the directors of the club in this era. I didnt do particuarly well in the 1985 incarnation, but at least I got some jollies in this slugfest. Mark Ginsburg vs NM Dr. McKelvie Queens Gambit Declined 1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 e6 3. c4 d5 4. Nc3 c6 5. e3 Nbd7 6. Bd3 Be7 7. O-O O-O 8. b3 b6 9. Bb2 Bb7 10. Qe2 dxc4?! It doesnt look right to concede the center so quickly. 11. bxc4 c5 12. Rad1 cxd4 13. exd4 13& Qb8 Black wants to transfer his queen to the strong f4 square. White rushes to prevent that. 14. Ne5! Rd8 15. f4! Whites initiative is quite menacing. Black hurries to erect defensive structures and its up to white to break them down. 15&g6 16. Kh1 Bf8 17. d5! exd5 18. cxd5 Re8 19. d6! A very nice clearance to get to blacks king. 19&Bxd6 20. Nb5 Bc5 21. Bc4! Focusing on the f7 point. Whites position is now winning but some further line-opening sacrifices are needed. 21& Re7 22. Bxf7+! Rxf7 23. Nxf7 Kxf7 24. f5! Attacking players find all these moves easily. Blacks king position is completely ripped apart and he has no defense. 25&Qe8 25. Qc4+ Kf8 26. Rxd7! Qxd7 27. fxg6! Everything is with gain of time; when an attacking game flows smoothly its a lot of fun to play. 27&Qd5 It was resignable here. White proceeds to capture most of blacks pieces. 28. Rxf6+ Ke7 29. Rf7+ Kd8 30. Bf6+ Kc8 31. Qg4+ Kb8 32. Qg3+ Bd6 33. Rf8+ Bc8 34. Qxd6+ 1-0 A most enjoyable bobby fischer class="MsoPlainText">Heres another tough tangle from the 85 event versus a former US Championship participant and USA representative in the Chess Olympiad, George M. Kramer. According to ChessBase, Mr. Kramers middle name is bobby fischer (a good trivia question?). He has been active in top chess for many decades; his career has games vs GMs Fine, Najdorf, etc. Heres move win of his(!) vs. American NM Weaver Adams, US Open 1946, Pittsburgh. Kramer was black in the W. Adams win, and his opponent had authored one the typical weak self-help books you see in bookstores, White to Play and Win. Heh. Kramer played in numerous fischer Championships; heres a feeble loss to Bobby Fischer in the 1957 event and to even things out a win over Letelier in the World Chess Olympiad, Dubrovnik, 1950. I see at chessgames.com he also played in the Munich 1958 and Varna 1962 Olympiads. NM George M. Kramer - IM Mark Ginsburg MCC Ch 1985, Round 5 Kings Indian Defense 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 d6 3. Nc3 Nbd7 4. O-O-O Re8 and we reach a well-known book position with a small edge for white. 5& g6 6. Be2 Bg7 7. O-O O-O 8. Be3 h6 An interesting move to gauge whites intentions. 9. Ne1 9. dxe5 is my personal preference; after 9&dxe5 10. Qc1! Kh7 (10& Ng4? 11. Bd2 Kh7 12. Ng5+! hxg5 13. Bxg4 with bobby fischer edge to white) 11. Rd1 and white is a bit better. 9& exd4 10. Bxd4 Re8 Playable is 10& Ne5 11. Nc2 Re8 12. f3 Be6 13. b3 Nc6 14. Be3 Nd7 15. Qd2 Qh4 16. Rad1 Rac8 17. Nd5 Kh7 and black fights on. 11. f3 bobby fischer Black can try 11& Ne5 12. Nd5 a6 13. Qd2 Bd7 14. Rd1 Nxd5 15. cxd5 Bb5. 12. Qd2 Ne5 13. Rd1 Be6 14. bobby fischer g5 Rather unsolid. More usual would be 14& Qa5 15. Nc2 Rad8 16. f4 c5 17. Bf2 Nc6 18. Bh4 Nd4 19. Bd3 Nxc2 20. Qxc2 Bg4 21. Rde1 Rb8 22. Nb5 Qb6 23. Qf2 with some white edge. 15. Be3?! A better alternative here is 15. Nc2!? ganging up on d6. bobby fischer Qe3 is another chance. 15& Qa5 16. Nc2 Nh5! 17. Na4 Qxd2 18. Rxd2 Nf4! Black is OK now, the pawn sacrifice on d6 is fully justified. 19. Bxf4 gxf4 20. Rxd6 20&a6? Quite a feeble move for several reasons. 20& Rad8! is clearly good. Its unusual in the sense that black, behind material, actually does want to trade here. 21. Rfd1 (Offering nothing is 21. Rxd8 Rxd8 22. Rd1 Rxd1+ 23. Bxd1 Nd7 24. Be2 f5! with full compensation for the pawn; however it is drawish and black really has no winning chances.} 25. Kf2 Kf7 26. g3 Be5 27. gxf4 Bxf4 with approximate equality. White is simply better after this slow move, but he also had 21. c5! bobby fischer move appears lose the c5-pawn, but white has a nice counter-tactic. 21..Bf8 22. Rd4 Nd7 23. Rfd1! Nxc5 (23& bobby fischer 24. Nxc5 Nxc5 25. Rd6 a5 26. Nd4) 24. Nb6! (an unexpected trapping of the knight on c5. 24& Rab8 25. b4 a5 bobby fischer bxc5 bobby fischer 27. Nc4 Red8 28. Kf1 Bxd4 29. Rxd4 with a big plus. 21& Bf8 Here, white has a stable and comfortable edge. But look what happens! 22. g3!? Methodical. White clears the way for the f3 pawn to advance. I would prefer the simpler 22.Rfd1 with a big plus. 22& fxg3 23. f4?? A gross tactical blunder. 23. hxg3 b5 24. Nb2! leaves white on top. For example, 24&Bg7 25. Ne3! guarding the N/b2 against possible discovered attacks. 23& gxh2+ 24. Kg2 Rad8! White must have overlooked this simple tactic. bobby fischer position has been opened up for the two bishops and white collapses. 25. Rfd1 25. Rd4 Ng4 or 25&Bg4 both win for black. 25& Rxd2 26. Rxd2 Ng6! A very simple solution. Whites once proud, solid position is a structural ruin. 27. f5 is a slightly better try but bobby fischer white winds up in a lost ending after an elementary tactical blow: 27&Bxf5! 28. exf5 Rxe2+ (28& Nf4+29. Kxh2 Rxe2+ 30. Rxe2 Nxe2 transposes) 29. Rxe2 Nf4+ 30. Kxh2 bobby fischer 31. Kg2 Bd6 32. Kf3 Nc1 33. Nc3 Be5 34. Ne4 Nxa2 35. Nc5 Nc1 36. Nxb7 Nxb3 37. Nb4 Nd2+ 38. Ke2 Nxc4 39. Nxa6 Bb2 40. Nb4 Ne5 and black wins. 27& Nxf4 With the rooks still on, black has a crushing position with the bishop pair and an extra pawn. 28. Bf3 Ng6 29. Ne3 b5 30. Nb2 Bb4 31. Rd1 Ne5 32. Bh5 From now on, black has his choice of wins. 32&Kh7 33. Nd3 Bd6 34. Nxe5 Bxe5+ 35. Kg2 Bf4 35& Rg8+ 36. Kf2 Rg5 37. Bf3 Kg6 also wins very easily. 36. Kf3 36&Bxe3! One bobby fischer the great advantages of the bishop pair, as GM Yefim Geller observed, is that one of them can be traded at the right time for positional or material gains. And the right time might last for a very long time. This is a good example, it is time to lose the bishop pair to aim for an easily won and simplified ending. 37. Kxe3 bxc4 38. b4 Rb8 38& Bd5! exploiting the pin is a very simple win. 39. a3 a5 40. Rb1 Of no help is 40. bxa5 Rb3+ 41. Kd4 Rxa3. 40&axb4 41. bobby fischer Rb5! The threat of &c6-c5 is convincing so white resigned. 0-1 Lets jump ahead to the end of the 1980s for a nice gamelet vs NM Maxim Berlyant, refuting his particular interpretation of the Snake Benoni. Mark Ginsburg vs Maxim Berlyant 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 c5 4. d5 exd5 5. cxd5 Bd6? Not good after 3. Nc3; playable after 3. Nf3. I took great pains to explain this to IM John Watson and Im still not sure he understands, because he didnt at the time (judging from his confused reaction and initial statement that the Snake was equivalent after 3. Nc3 and 3. Nf3). 6. g3! Bc7 7. d6! This is a complete refutation. bobby fischer white has not committed his KN to f3 yet, it can go to h3 to f4 to d5. That is the key differentiator. Black is paralyzed by the d6 pawn wedge. 6&Ba5 8. Bg2 O-O 9. Nh3 Qb6 10. O-O Ne8 An abject retreat signals blacks desperate condition. 11. Nd5 Qd8 12. Qc2 Na6 13. Ng5 Everything with gain of time. Its not usual that a master is reduced to such helplessness after a handful of moves. 13&g6 14. Ne4 Bb6 15. Bh6 A very brutal finale. Black has no defense. 1-0 This snake was squashed. Watch this spot; I will post other MCC Championship tangles versus Dlugy, Benjamin, Schroer, Zuckerman, Shirazi, Cooke, and more. |

From the Ns hit show Degrassi; Adamo Ruggiero! We think So! |
I have a theory formulated based upon the results of Philippine Idol from the past weeks. Those contestants american idol judges did the best performances will surely be on the chopping block while those who did american idol judges will remain safe. Being good is easily becoming a liability. I think Draes early exit is harsh. But nothing is much more painful than seeing Reymond leave the competition despite having the BEST performance last night. His second take to the song Be My Lady, signifying his exit, was way very intense HAUNTING, it will grab your spirit from within. The appreciative standing ovation from the audience in his last performance showed more than a sign of bewilderness but a good signage of disgust to the voting public. It felt good to see Onyx, Ira, Suey and Drae standing and looking up on Reymonds last remaining moment in the stage. They represent the bunch of people who really deserve to stay in this chapter of competition, but have been totally neglected because of being too good. Another good performer is out, oh well, whats new? Check out if this performance deserved the boot: This show is way TOO MUCH to handle. |

There is a quote on the front cover of this book made by the author Susan Wiggs, who says that The Tin Box is feel-good fiction at its best. This makes me scratch my head a bit because this was quite a depressing novel. Which isnt as bad as it sounds, because this is also a very good novel. When we first meet Kenly Lowen, we discover that shes been keeping a secret from her husband. The secret is small enough to fit into a tin box, but large enough that it has the potential to rip their family apart. Before we find out what the secret is, we are transported back in time to when Kenly was a teenager living in Montana with her alcoholic father, who has just been let go from yet another teaching position. Kenly knows that when her father loses a job, it means they must move to wherever he can find another teaching position. Kenlys father became an alcoholic after her mother died in a car crash when Kenly was seven years old. Since then, theyve moved from job to job, never staying in the proteus syndrome place for longer than a year. As a result, Kenly doesnt have any real friends, and she learns not to get attached to any new place they might settle into, because the chances are good theyll be moving again very soon. Kenlys fathers next job takes them proteus syndrome north into Athabasca, Alberta, Canada. Athabasca is a small town, with a population of nearly nineteen hundred. To Kenly, this is feeling like theyve finally reached the bottom of the pit, and it cant possibly get worse. Shes sure shell hate Athabasca, and shes even hoping that it will be a short stay. What she doesnt count on are the people she meets there. Theres her neighbor, a boy her age named Tommy who has something called Proteus Syndrome, which causes his organs and bones to continually grow so that one side of his body is enlarged and monsterish-looking and his body needs surgery often to remove the constantly growing tissue. But the fact that Proteus Syndrome will probably kill Tommy before hes thirty doesnt make him bitter and angry; instead, he chooses to live his short life to its fullest and focus on making frienships with those who can see past his disfigurement and see good person within. Kenlys new landlord is an older man named Max that lives two houses proteus syndrome from the house she and her father are renting. Max is a gentle man, and he can see that shes lonely and unhappy, so he makes a point of including her in his nightly gatherings around the fire pit in his backyward, where people from all over the neighborhood to gossip and keep each other company. Its at one of these gatherings that Kenly meets Lexie, a girl her age who has been dumped in Athabasca to live with her uncle because her father is not in the picture her mother has run off to Toronto to live proteus syndrome a new boyfriend. Tommy, Lexie and Kenly are the only young people at these fire pit gatherings, and pretty soon they have all gravitated towards each other. They identify with each other by the hardships each of them have in their lives, and this connection helps them form what will become lifelong friendships. Soon after Kenlys arrival, Tommy has quietly fallen in love with her, though she thinks of proteus syndrome as no more than one of her best friends. They spend time together in Tommys treehouse, where he can hide away from the world that stares at his deformites, and she can escape from her house during those times when her father is proteus syndrome It is in the treehouse that Tommy shows Kenly a tin box he keeps hidden there. He tells her that the things that matter the most in life should be able to fit into a tin box, whether its a letter from a loved one, a ticket stub to a great concert, or a small memento that reminds you of those times in your life that you were happiest. He explains that whenever he feels down about his circumstances, he looks at the contents of the tin box and he proteus syndrome that life can be happy. Kenlys father manages to hold onto his teaching position for the whole year, and Kenly actually starts to believe that she might be able to call Athabasca home. But Kenlys father is tormented by the death of her mother, and his alcoholism is destroying any shred of happiness he once had, as well as any chance for a good father-daughter relationship. Eventually, when his depression gets too strong to handle, he commits suicide, stranding Kenly alone in the world, save for her grandmother down in the U.S. who is getting much too old to care for her teenage granddaughter. But her grandmother decides that her granddaughter has been through enough in her life and could use some stability, so she moves to Athabasca for the next year so that Kenly can finish high school. During this last year of high school school, Kenly works hard to earn good grades so she can go to a good business program in Chicago, near where he proteus syndrome home is. She also strengthens her relationships with her friends in Athabasca so much that she considers her friends there to be her family. It is the first time she has felt a connection to a place and to people, and when Kenly is accepted into the business program in Chicago, she makes sure to keep in touch with her new family and visit proteus syndrome often. Kenlys best friend Lexie has followed her to Chicago, and with Kenlys grandmothers help and her fathers life insurance, they are able to get an apartment together and live the life of young college women. Kenly is looking forward to reinventing her life, and settles into her business college. She participates in a mentorship program, where she is paired up with a young, successful businessman named Ross. However, they soon fall for each other and within a few weeks, Kenly discovers that her new independent, college girl life comes to a halt with the news proteus syndrome she is pregnant. She and Ross decide to have the baby and raise it together, and Kenly is determined make their relationship work and to give their baby the kind of stable, happy life she never had. But when she goes into the doctors for an ultrasound, she discovers that shes farther along in her pregnancy than she realised and that the babys father isnt Ross, but is actually Tommy, the result of their last night together in Athabasca when they were in his treehouse drinking a few too many toasts to her new life and Tommy finally expressed his feelings for her. Kenly is ashamed by their encounter, but mostly she is scared that Tommy has passed down his Proteus Syndrome. After her doctor runs some genetic testing and tells her that the baby appears to be completely normal, Kenly makes the decision not to tell Tommy and to let Ross continue to believe that he is the father, because even though she loves Tommy dearly and knows hed be a good father, she doesnt want her child to grow up with the kind of life that being with Tommy, a virtual hermit who keeps to his treehouse and rarely leaves Athabasca due to the publics reaction towards him, would give them. Her son Connor is born (everyone believes he has arrived a few weeks early, though in actuality, he was actually a couple of weeks late) and Kenly and Ross are married shortly afterwards. Their life actually does become all she wishes it would be stable, happy and financially secure. As the years pass, the secret becomes easier to keep and the guilt begins to subside. Occasionally, when they go to Athabasca for visits, Kenly feels the guilt more strongly as Tommy interacts with their son, but she never says anything. Tommys Proteus Syndrome has worsened over the years and he has had to endure many surgeries. Eventually, one of the surgeries weakens him too much, and an infection sets in, killing him as predicted, before he turned thirty. Kenly goes to Athabasca for the funeral, and Max tells her Tommy has left her something and she would know what it is and where to find it. Kenly returns to the treehouse to find Maxs old tin box, and inside of it, she finds a videotape that Tommy has made for her. In the video, he tells her that he knows he is Connors father, and that he understands why she didnt tell him but he wishes he could have spent more time him. He also wants her to tell their son when he is old enough to understand who his real father was and to help him understand the person he was and why she did what she did. Kenly is overwhelmed by the video and knows that proteus syndrome secret will always be there, waiting to be exposed in one way or another, and that hiding it will only become harder. She knows that she will have to tell her husband Ross the truth. Which brings us back to the beginning of the story. I suppose what Susan Wiggs meant by her feel-good fiction quote has to do with the themes of friendship and family that run through this book, and that even through hard proteus syndrome loss, and lapses in judgement, a true friend will stand by you and that if your love is strong enough, your marriage can survive even a secret as big as the one Kenly has kept. This is Holly Kennedys debut novel, and the writing is for the most part very good, though there are times when she can be a bit overly dramatic. Overall though, she has written a good story about relationships and hard decisions. |
Libro: |

A typical struggle that a large company has is how to deal with mid-market companies or average customers. Typically national clients or repeat customers get great attention, but it is hard to give this same customized attention to an average customer even if they might be your next big customer. This challenge is exasperated by the difference between your average customer service or account professionals and your top performers. How do you embed the DNA of the performers in that of the average employee. When I was at Express Scripts, I used to half-kiddingly suggest creating an automated pharmacist. All of our clients from individual groups of 200 people to the Department of Defense with 9M members all wanted a pharmacist to zocor them with personalized recommendations based on their member demographics and triggered by market events - e.g., Prilosec goes OTC (over-the-counter), Zocor loses patent, a new drug comes to market. There was no easy way to do this. Additionally, all of us who use the healthcare system want more personalized attention from our physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, etc. But, of course, we dont want to pay a retainer to have them on call. We just want them to somehow manage to give us proactive advice. Any professional services firm (e.g., accountants, lawyers) has this same challenge. When something changes (e.g., long-distance excise tax), how and when do they communicate this change to all of their clients and help them assess the impact of this change on their business. Companies with distributors or retail branches have similar challenges from communicating downstream or upstream changes across the different constituents to help them prepare in advance. For example, if your advertising company calls and tells you the ad copy will be 2 days late which means the collateral will be printed 3 days late which means that the supermarkets installing your new display have to shift schedules to have it set up 4 days later& Well&it didnt hit me until this morning, but Business Process Management (BPM) technology could help here. We could map these processes til the cows come home, but that wont do any good. Streamlining these processes, capturing the rules, embedding logic into the process, codifying best practices, and integrating these human and system centric solutions can create this automated intelligence. It is not artificial intelligence but it can help manage your clients create real personalized value. Lets stick with the example: This is a service that every client wants. They want the hand holding, but it is hard for large companies to give this to every zocor There is not time enough to have all these discussions, talk about customizing the letters, wait on customer approvals, or manage things through e-mail when people are busy and unavailable. A BPM approach to this embeds the logic and creates a personalized flow triggered off key events that can initiate dormant processes that are waiting in the background. |

The recent election 2008 polls from Rasmussen Reports national opinion survey election 2008 Likely Democratic Primary Voters highlights the stability of a campaign that has started well before most Americans foo dog to think about it. Once again, New York Senator Hillary Clinton election 2008 on top, this week attracting 38% of the vote. Illinois Senator Barack Obama is in second place with 26% of the vote, unchanged from a week ago. Obama and Clinton are essentially even among African-American election 2008 Clinton leads Obama by 15 percentage points among women and by 7 among men. Former North Carolina Senator and 2004 Vice Presidential nominee John Edwards remains in third place with 15% support. New election 2008 Governor Bill Richardson is a very distant fourth, with just 3% of the vote. Discuss the recent election 2008 polls results here. source: yahoo.com I have spent the better part of this whole week basically doing two things. 1. Listening to and refuting delusional claims by Alabama Crimson Tide fans that their mediocre team is superior to the #3 ranked LSU Tigers. 2. Trying to explain why many LSU fans hate Alabama Coach Nick Saban with the intensity of 1,000 suns. Not sure that I made much headway on #1, but I came up with an analogy that I think sums up #2 quite clearly. First, let me define the players (no pun intended). While I was Tag Surfing for LSU/Alabama fodder, I found a tight little blog called 3rd Saturday in Blogtober. There I found a post that asked the question, Why do LSU fans hate Saban so? Since I have to deal with Bama and Auburn fans daily and became pretty proficient in my arguments defending #2 above, I one more round clothing a pretty good analogy to adequately explain eric winter Saban Hater phenomenon. It was so effective that blogmaster, Crimson Daddy posted my analogy comment as a post. &.is honored. Here is the re-posting of said analogy: Here’s an analogy that might shine a little light on the LSU fan/Saban love-hate thing: Let’s say you meet a girl and she is the absolute love of your life. She’s perfect. Treats you like a king, laughs at your dumb jokes and generally makes you feel really good about yourself — better than you have in a long time. You spend three glorious years together and you think, â€SThis is the one.” You contemplate marriage and just before you pop the question, she lets you know that while she still loves you, she has bigger dreams — dreams that she can’t fulfill living there, in your small town, with you. Because you love her, you let her go. Off to her big career in the big city, yet knowing that she didn’t really leave you — she left the small town life for more opportunity. After all, she still speaks fondly of you and you are really good friends. Then, a few years later, you hear through the grapevine that she’s dating a guy IN YOUR SMALL TOWN that used to beat you up in high school. A guy that lsu football have despised since childhood and who has really been mean to you over the years. We’ll call him Big Al. You question your old girlfriend about the relationship. â€SNo way. I don’t know how to say it any plainer. I am not nor am I going to be Al’s girlfriend.”, she assures you. Then, two short weeks later, your Mother calls to tell you that said todd blackledge girlfriend is moving back to lsu football — you know, the one she said wasn’t big enough to hold her — and get this….she’s engaged to Big Al. Getting married in the Fall. So, tell me….do you show up at the wedding with a present or a with an axe to grind? I also the last castle that while you might be happy with your new love, youre still pissed because your old girlfriend lied to you about dating Big Al, your lsu football nemesis and you feel that you were never really special, after all. One poster asked, So when do you get over it?. I responded: I’ll get over it once I feel that I have made the ex-girlfriend feel as bad as I felt when I heard the news of her impending nuptials….beating her by 14 points or more in her home stadium. Make no mistake. This is a big game for the Tigers. A loss would assuredly dash any hopes for a National Championship and likely, a SEC Championship. While its an important road game for the team, it is THE game of the season for the fans. The jilted lovers. We want a win. A big win. A beat their ass into the ground, make their coach cry win. To show the ex-girlfriend that he made a huge mistake when he left us. To make him, uh her, sorry for leaving us, for lying to us, for betraying us with a bitter rival. Theres lots of talk in lots of circles that LSU is overrated. That the Tide is underrated. That itll be a tough contest. That LSU will be lucky to win this one. That Les Miles has everything to lose and nothing to gain. That Nick Saban owns LSU. As usual, I follow the money. The handicappers set the initial line at LSU -7. That has lsu football to -7.5 as of Thursday lsu football That indicates that people are betting LSU and is usually directionally accurate. Considering that Bama is at home (good for 3 points in the spread) and LSU is favored by 7.5 means that bookies are figuring that LSU is at least 10 points better than Alabama. Of course, as this crazy season has proven, anything can happen. However, if LSU gets there and takes care of their business, it lsu football be a relatively easy win. Maybe with a win LSU can quell some of the delusions of Bama fans and their unnatural mortuusmania concerning Bear Bryant and the incessant exaggeration regarding National Championships. Heres a newsflash for the Tiders: No matter how they may squint, Nick Saban is NOT the new Bear. He aint even the old Nick. Come Saturday night, LSU will be over the old coach. The new coach will see to it, crazy bastid. So, for all those Bama fans, I have three words: FEAR. DA. HAT. GEAUX TIGERS!!! GEAUX TIGERS!!! GEAUX TIGERS!!! GEAUX TIGERS!!! In the Air Tonight ETA:  Favorite Alabama joke apalachicola fl the week How many Bama fans does it take to change a light bulb? Just one. Then 70,000 to sit lsu football (for 25 years) and talk about how good the old bulb was. credit Tigerdroppings.com/rant Big Think Studios - Nonprofit Advertising.
