Hobart Machined Products proves that you don’t have to be a big company to provide your customers with state-of-the-art service. Last year, the small specialty manufacturer invested $10,000 in an automated tracking system that allows its customers, including Boeing and NASA, to instantly check on the status of a work order. The system, called OMNITROL Supplier Visibility, provides a completely automated, real-time information exchange platform that removes overhead and inaccuracies, and gives customers accurate, secure and timely information. “With the growing challenges of managing outsourced partners, our customers require real-time visibility into order status to proactively and consistently track on-time delivery,” said Rosemary Brester, president and CEO of Hobart Machined Products. The system represented a significant investment of both money and time, but it paid for itself in the first six months by allowing Hobart to redirect manual labor and reduce expediting of parts. It paid dividends in other ways, too, by allowing the company to provide better customer service. “We were one of the first small suppliers to do something like this, and our customers have really noticed,” Brester said.

DSCF5940 Interior of public transportation systems. Doesn't have to look this way, and it can be changed.
What are the songs and art pieces, drawings and writings
to encourage - designers and engineers of esp interiors of public transportation?
* I need stronger word then encourage here. English is sometimes too polite - as a language. It really doesn't kick in someone's core - and get it up. Revivify? etc. Well there should be better words and expressions than it...
No one ever - I hope and I believe - it has to look so tired or cold, so unattractive and dark, or prone to be looking bad and etc. (but then I notice that whole culture of public transport system can be reviewed - and in some ways we find it's all stuck in very problematic heritage - problems - and we won't know how to fix it.
*but there are successful cases in USA - even in USA
**and probably across the world we might find the cases of revitalization, redoing, successful redoing attempts etc. (where that would be?)
Positives?
*SF's those train stuff. Cable cars. Or Munis running with Cable Car designs. Muni's trains etc itself isn't badly designed at all.
**So that generates the question of why some trains and lines seem to have stuck with bad designs (and morales?) forever? Or did they have gorgeous, great designs in the first place and something happened and that changed the whole thing into - some of the worst stuff we have today?
Interior design. Passenger space design.
There are some money went in and some or even in many cities - I see buses etc getting really great and etc. Hmm. *If we get a listing of them on the web with visual presentation and passionate talk? by designers and companies got involved in the design and making of them - that'd be a great resource - for America and also for people (municipalities, local governments and central governments).
Solace is that in the morning and earlier part of the day, even the worst trains insides often kind of look okay and nice. Somehow, esp when it's sunny. (when it's rainy or snowy, I don't know, somehow, honestly. The great power is sunlight - much of the time - even to the eyes of human beings who live in mega-cities.)
Shapes of things there. Color choices. How information fits in. How advertisement etc fits in.
All doesn't have to be stuck with that kind of looking at all.
*memory of LA buses, Seattle buses.
*There often less white people. In some lines of LA buses, never was a white person. When I asked some of them, some sure did answer they have never used buses.
***Green and Eco, etc also means revitalization or revivifying the public transportation systems (although there are certain some cases when just putting more effort and focus into public transportation doesn't seem smart, ie, there are cases where more comprehensive redesigning - such as whole town scale, city scale might be necessary. but today, modern advanced societies are short on cash - money - and even they are short on credit - not that they are short on labor though...there are tons of mobilizable brains - intellectual forces and physical labor forces. It's like we are limiting what we can be doing now with some stupid nozzles - and limiting where the icing of the cake can go - it's only allowed to be positioned to very limited, and always same spots....)
So if we can have portals - basically very flatly listing and comparing and picking out best smart practices and efforts - endeavorers -
**Web and network, or PCs etc were supposed to be able to do this
"Best of this". Journalism was also supposed to be able to do this and academics, science and experts were supposed to be able to do this. Always picking up best, most smart and well coordinated, best invested stuff (about one specific domain or subject area).
Best of education, best of revitalizing public transportation system, best of urban regeneration, best of transitional green economic models and practical management, coordination etc.
But we still haven't got there yet. Although there are - some private interest thing there - but even discounting that what we've achieved to build really good information system architecture and tools on the web and personal terminals are fairly - very disappointingly - limited - and suffocating.
Getting us from Newark to WTC - $ 1.50 and in 20 minutes is pretty decent thing.
[*but then that pulls up the issues of how the ticket giving machine is designed and located - and how it is wasteful to have that -
manning it with trained people and giving them wages would be probably in the end more meaningful?
or those are low functions - so it's more ethically right to give it to machines and humans should do more requiring stuff.
I don't know how that automation came in. There must be some thought and argument behind it - like how Japan came up with all those (privately developed) highly efficient ticket system - for trains - and why buses still got such sucking system -
and why England's system was so - duh,
etc. Developing those machine - was done by who? (each remarkable ca

Lt. Gen. Benjamin Freakley, the commanding general of U.S. Army Accessions Command, discusses the Army's motorsports sponsorships with the media on Friday at Daytona International Speedway. U.S. Army photo by Tim Hipps, FMWRC Public Affairs
House, Freakley reaffirm Army's sponsorship of motorsports teams
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Feb. 18, 2011 -- On the day the House voted 281-148 to allow the U.S Army to continue its NASCAR sponsorship, Lt. Gen. Benjamin Freakley explained the importance of the relationship to the media at Daytona International Speedway.
Rep. Betty McCollum (D) of Minnesota introduced a measure to ban Department of Defense spending on NASCAR sponsorship as an amendment to the House's spending bill. On Feb. 18, the House rejected the proposed sponsorship ban.
Freakley, the commanding general of U.S. Army Accessions Command, said the Army spends $7.4 million per year on NASCAR and $3.9 million on NHRA sponsorships. Another $8 million goes toward activation of the motorsports sponsorships - all the moving parts that complete the Army experience for fans attending race tracks across America.
"We have brought those dollars down over the years," said Freakley, whose Recruiting Command sponsors driver Ryan Newman in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Top Fuel dragster driver Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher on the National Hot Rod Association circuit. "In the three and a half years I've been engaged, we have shaped the races that we're in and we have shaped our sponsorship because it's the American peoples' money.
"We recognize that. But regardless, I have to invest in awareness," Freakley explained.
Freakley said studies indicate that NASCAR provides the best return for the Army's investment in the marketing of military recruiters' desired audience.
During the past three years, the Army got out of the business of sponsoring arena football, motorcycle racing and rodeo bull riding, but stuck with NASCAR, the NHRA and the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, the premier all-star football game for high school seniors.
"We run the Army's marketing and advertising programs to make Americans aware of the American Army opportunities, options, education and what young people can find if they come to serve us in the Army," Freakley said. "In September 2000, we were directed by the Congress to direct a pilot through NASCAR from all services to connect with the American people through this venue, this great motorsport called NASCAR. We did the pilot and we liked it so much in the Army that we kept it going.
"In my mind, after three and a half years of working with NASCAR, we have a treasured relationship with NASCAR because it gives us a great venue to tell our story as Soldiers where people are receptive - as we call it, a passion point."
In 2010, the Army generated more than 150,000 recruiting leads from its sports-marketing program. One third of those - 46,000 - came from NASCAR and the motorsports programs, Freakley said.
"It's not a day at the track," he explained. "Many people think, 'Why are we spending this amount of money for a day at the track?' This is a yearlong engagement by the Army where we go into high schools, go onto the tracks and use this venue to talk about this discourse about serving in the Army.
"We do know that young people and their parents have this passion point about NASCAR. We do know that they come to the races. We do know, as you will observe this weekend, they come to the Strength in Action Zone. They talk to our Soldiers. They talk to our sergeants. We have a common dialogue on no threatening ground.
"You're not standing in a recruiting station on the brink of a decision. You're at a NASCAR event to have a discussion and a deep dialogue," Freakley added. "We get a much richer dialogue on this common ground than if we were not here."
Another 25,000 students and teachers attended the Army's education outreach programs that stress the importance of graduating from high school, Freakley said.
"It's not about Army recruiting, it's about awareness and staying on track so you can qualify into the Army," Freakley said. "Only one of four of our youth, 17-to-24-year olds, can qualify to join the military because of education, obesity or other health issues, and conduct. And those same young people probably can't work on a race car because they're not physically fit to work on a race car."
The outreach programs provide youngsters with different perspectives of Army life beyond the battlefields. In some instances, the Army's affiliation with NASCAR actually helps give recruiters access to students.
"Off and on in the American experience, we've had recruiters and ROTC and West Point outreach fully allowed into high schools, and other times we've seen the doors closed," Freakley said. "And sometimes NASCAR opens those doors."
Freakley said the relatio

Venezuela and Brazil: Stamps
It is very uncommon to find Brazilian stamps on Brazilian passports these days, but if you want to enter Venezuela by land you have to be stamped out of your own country.
Apparently, it is a demand from Venezuelan Immigration because of the heavy smuggling and drug trafficking along this border.

AMOUN 14-07-10 Al Mussawar p06 (TMG,PHD) FP
•Now about Madinaty land?
oMadinaty Land was allocated in whole and the contract was concluded before I was appointed Minister of Housing, but I believe that the Madinaty Contract is good for the country for several reasons, among which is; after the State allocated Madinaty land to Talaat Mostafa Group, it wanted to reform the financial balance of Arab Contractors so it decided to give 12000 to Arab Contractors to use it in the settlement of their accrued bank debts. I was not the Minister of Housing at that time but was the Minister of Tourism – and the State did not sell – but it was rather necessary that the Ministry of Housing performs an evaluation to his land (the 12000 feddans given to the Arab Contractors). The meter was estimated at approximately 45 Pounds after a year from Madinaty Land’s allocation to TMG, accordingly the meter price at Madinaty is 45 Pounds or less according to the estimation of the Arab Contractors land, and we have no interest from increasing or decreasing the meter price in this estimation, as Arab Contractors gets this land then transfers its ownership to the banks to clear its debts at the banks, therefore, there is no buying or selling.
•Why are you putting the land of Arab Contractors and Madinaty on the same level?
oI am using it as reference but there is no comparison between both.
•Was 45 Pounds per meter a fair price at that time?
oYes of course 500% fair. Don’t forget that the turnover that occurred in real estate prices was in 2006 after 2 years from the current ministerial formation when people started feeling that the growth is real and that there is a progression in the economy, so eye were starting to be on Egypt and the Stock Exchange started rising. The weird thing is that some people started to attack us for the increase in the prices of residential lands, while when the prices of agricultural lands and the stock exchange rose, no one objected. The price of lands starts increasing when the economic growth in the country is promising, consequently all assets start increasing, and no one can compare between the situation before and after 2006.
The guiding prices in Madinaty Land are the same of the Arab Contractors Land, so if one took 45 Pounds for the meter and imposed a 10% accumulative annual increase, we will reach the current price of 65 Pounds for the meter.
•But Hisham Talaat proposed to the Cabinet of Ministers after you became the Housing Minister in 2006/2007 with 65 Pounds for the meter to be paid in cash?
oWe made our calculations and told him “No, we want 165 Pounds in cash for the meter.” So he said no and told us to keep the 7% of Madinaty buildings. This percentage is now equal to 12 to 14 billion Pounds. Accordingly, the State benefited and it would have been a disaster had we sold the meter for 45 Pounds and took a 10% increase on the average rate every year.
•And why did you enter in what does not concern you?
oWhen I am a responsible minister, shall I say this matter does not concern me at all because it occurred before I became a Housing Minister or shall I talk!!?? I talked and said that Madinaty contract is a balanced contract because I am comparing it to what the land price was when the land was allocated.
•The whole problem is the direct commissioning of the land?
oDo not forget that in different development phases, different methods of merchandising are used, i.e. when a merchandiser starts a project in a new area (e.g. a mall) the merchandiser goes to a big company and offers a large area in the mall at a much lesser price then the one he sells at to the others. For example, the Governor of Dubai when he grants a villa worth 5 million Pounds to the British football player Beckham for free…. Does that mean that he is crazy and scattering money? No, he wants to merchandise and promote a project, and the equivalent to this villa is sold for 5 million Pounds after two years.
•Is Hisham Talaat specifically the only one capable to promote and merchandise this land?
oHe was selected based on the fact that two of the hugest projects known in Egypt at this moment are Al Rehab, therefore his precedents qualify him. When we look at the outcome to the State from the sale of the land to TMG, we find that this Group did was not freeze the land but established a huge city. This movement in the area that was not in New Cairo plans is what enables us to sell the meter close to Madinaty at 600 Pounds. The State benefited from Madinaty contract and people got jobs and Housing Units were made, so it is not possible to tell Talaat Mostafa that the price he bought the land at is 10% from the current land price.
•Why not say?
oEven if it is worth 1%...what is my concern? What is that weird thinking people are obsessed with to sell something but keep an eye on it!! The direct commissioning of the land to TMG is the way followed according to the law of the New Urban Communities Authority which is still existing and known as the Private law

Israel-Mexico: The fourth policy dialogue 19Oct09
A delegation from Mexico, led by the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Lourdes Aranda Bezaury visited Israel (19 Oct.) and participated in the fourth policy dialogue between the two countries. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Avigdor Lieberman greeted Undersecretary Aranda (pictured) , who took part in the dialogue in Jerusalem alongside Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Daniel Ayalon.
Foreign Minister Liberman thanked the Undersecretary for Mexico's abstention during the UN Human Rights Council's vote on the Goldstone Report.
The fourth dialogue emphasized and strengthened the momentum that has taken place in the bilateral relations over the past few years. The Israeli and Mexican delegations discussed a wide range of current subjects, including political and economic relations between the two states, trade and investment, international cooperation, culture, tourism, education, science and technology, as well as legal and consular matters.
At the start of the meeting, Deputy FM Ayalon expressed his gratitude for Mexico's abstention at the Goldstone vote in the UNHRC. Additionally, DFM Ayalon asked Undersecretary Aranda for Mexico's continued support during its term on the UN Security Council. Mr. Ayalon added, "Mexico is a key state in Latin America and the visit of the Mexican delegation can only serve to strengthen ties between Israel and Mexico."
Both delegations declared that Mexico and Israel enjoy a strong, diverse and developed relationship. Almost all indicators for judging ties testify to growth and advancement, starting with the trade statistics, economic cooperation and including investments and cultural cooperation. The free trade agreement between the two states will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2010. This agreement was recently noted to be the only free trade agreement which has continued to grow and flourish despite the worldwide economic crisis.
Significant cooperation between the two states has also been achieved in the academic, educational and technological fields. Both sides agreed on the need to expand and develop ties in these areas, which can serve as bridges for bringing the two peoples closer together.
The Israeli delegation expressed its desire to take part in the celebrations of 200 years of Mexican independence, which will start in 2010. Both parties discussed various ideas for cooperating in this matter.
The Israeli and Mexican delegations referred to regional and global events. The Mexican delegation expressed its satisfaction over the fact that Latin America has assumed a more important role than ever before in Israel's foreign policy. The Mexican officials noted that this was a welcome trend that will greatly assist bilateral relations.
Both sides also discussed the Middle East peace process. Mexico expressed its commitment to the achievement of a just and lasting peace in the framework of two states living side-by-side in peace.
Mexico and Israel stated their mutual dedication to developing, expanding and strengthening inter-state relations through the framework of cooperation, honest dialogue and the advancement of mutual understanding.

STOP THE WAR speaker Ali Mallah
Ali Mallah, V.P.Canadian Arab Federation and Steering committee member Canadian Peace Alliance, addresses the crowd at the rally for Lebanon in front of US Consulate, Toronto.
July 22, 2006
Between 10-15,000 people attended, according to media estimates.
Ali Mallah ,Vice-president of Canadian Arab Federation, also has a very personal investment in his desire to see an immediate halt to the bombing in Lebanon- his wife and 2 children, ages 9 and 11, are there visiting family and are now in immediate danger in the South of Lebanon- the area worst hit in the Israeli bombings, and now completely cut off from humanitarian aid and supplies. The children are being brave, and said that they don't want to abandon their grandmother and cousins. I hope they continue to be safe. Many foreign nationals are remaining for similar reasons.
I saw on CNN news that the cost of evacuating one American family, only to Cyprus, was $4000.- which the US government CHARGED to the FAMILY's credit card. I wonder if the American families WITH funds are getting out first... and if this has any bearing on the number of people choosing to take the much more dangerous overland route to neighbouring countries. America, one of the richest countries in the world, is the only one I've heard of so far which is putting the cost of the evacuation on the victims' shoulders.
Not that the US doesn't have money to burn...
David Clark, a former UK Labour special adviser at the Foreign Office, wrote in this week's Guardian, "Yet the US remains entirely
complicit in its role as Israel's main strategic ally. In the midst of last
week's onslaught, in which Israeli bombers killed dozens of Lebanese civilians, the Pentagon announced the export of $210m of aviation fuel to help Israel "keep peace and security in the region". Even Britain and other European countries indulge in a form of diplomatic misdirection by focusing one-sidedly on the roles played by Syria and Iran. "

Somerville Community Path Groundbreaking, Governor Patrick, August 30, 2010
Governor Deval Patrick this week joined state and local officials to announce a $490,000 MassDOT Transit Oriented Development (TOD) grant to the City of Somerville to fund bicycle and pedestrian improvements near the privately-funded, multi-family residential MaxPak development project.
"This important investment illustrates how prioritizing projects near public transportation can address the economic vitality of communities while creating private investments, and jobs today and for tomorrow," said Governor Patrick.
MassDOT's TOD Infrastructure and Housing Support Program ("TOD Bond Program") is intended to help create more compact, mixed-use, walkable development near transit stations. The TOD Bond Program provides financing for pedestrian improvements, bicycle facilities, housing projects and parking facilities within a quarter-mile of commuter rail, subway or bus stations, as well as ferry terminals.
The former 5.5-acre Brownfield site has been reclaimed and permitted as a TOD project for 199 residential units; 25 of which will be designated as affordable housing. The $50 million project is entirely funded by KSS Realty. Construction has started on the MaxPak site with demolition underway to prepare for construction of the first 15 housing units.
The MaxPak project is adjacent to the planned Green Line Extension, which will extend MBTA service to three densely-populated municipalities with high demand for public transit. The Green Line Extension is a significant economic development and transportation access improvement project for this key region of the Commonwealth.
As a result of the redevelopment of the MaxPak site, an extension of an existing Community Path is planned, encouraging alternative methods of transportation. The TOD grant funds a Community Path extension from Cedar Street to Lowell Street.

DC-10 Fire Fighter
A DC-10 Airtanker - Tanker 910 - streaks away from the Gap Fire in Goleta, California after dumping a load of fire retardant chemicals.
The DC-10 is a former American Airlines passenger jet that was modified and tested over a four-year development program by 10 Tanker Air Carrier LLC using extensive private investment capital. The tanker is currently leased on a “call when needed” basis by CDF at a cost of $26,500 per hour with a minimum use of three hours.
Three separate external tanks mounted along the centerline which can hold 50 tons of water or retardant and are balanced with baffles to prevent shifting while in flight. The tanks’ ground clearance is approximately 15 inches above the tarmac. The tanks can be re-filled concurrently on the ramp in eight minutes. Tanker 910 can dump as much as 12,000 U.S. gallons of retardant in as little as eight seconds.

WANT TO INVEST IN THE STOCK : WANT TO INVEST
WANT TO INVEST IN THE STOCK : SEI INVESTMENTS CANADA : INVESTING IN MONEY MARKET.
Want To Invest In The Stock
- In economics, a want is something that is desired. It is said that every person has unlimited wants, but limited resources. Thus, people cannot have everything they want and must look for the most affordable alternatives.
- "Want To" is a song by country music duo Sugarland. Their first release not to feature former member Kristen Hall, the song was also the first Number One hit of Sugarland's career in the U.S., spending two weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts in late 2006.

Day 54/365 ~ I Want You Always, To Remember Me
January 24, 2011.
"I want you always to remember me. Will you remember that I existed, and that I stood next to you here like this?"
— Haruki Murakami (Norwegian Wood)
(Almost) SOOC.
I made everyone climb on the rocks, and then I slipped. It was either 1) Save the camera and get hurt or 2) Let the camera bash against rocks and stop myself from falling so I picked the first option, and now there're five cuts on my foot, and three long scratches on my knee. It stung. Plus everyone stared and after my spectacular wipeout into the water, a large group of guys saluted us. Embarrassment.
I like beaches. I like wandering on tiny islands, and I like the bluey green sparkling water. I like feeling timeless, and the horizons. I like the sky and the scudding clouds, and the endless blue. I like sitting on rough rocks and watching the water. I like floating bridges with metal bars, and I like looking at the view from high cliffs.
Today I got a lot of beautiful shots.
We left our initials and the date on the wooden slat of a pavilion.
It was a good day..
Until I found out one of my previous teachers has cancer.
Why do people suffer, when they don't deserve it?
IF YOU WANT TO BECOME FULL, LET YOURSELF BE EMPTY
If you want to become straight, let yourself be crooked.
If you want to become full, let yourself be empty.
If you want to be reborn, let yourself die.
If you want to be given everything, give everything up.
