This room located in the south-eastern corner of the abbey complex has a few interesting architectural features. The one pictured here is a window niche with stone seats at which the monks could read. This window faces more or less south-east, so has an excellent aspect to catch the morning and afternoon sunlight.

In this room there is also a fireplace, an interesting arrangements of stone corbels and a well-preserved garderobe (latrine or toilet). The toilet would have emptied down into a pit but it’s not clear whether this was dry or flushed with running water. The ceiling was barrel-vaulted.
