The 2009-2014 Outlook for Precast Concrete Slabs and Tile for Roofing and Flooring in India

This econometric study covers the latent demand outlook for precast concrete slabs and tile for roofing and flooring across the states, union territories and cities of India. Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across over 5,100 cities in India. For each city in question, the percent share the city is of it's state or union territory and of India as a whole is reported. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city vis-a-vis others. This statistical approach can prove very useful to distribution and/or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each state or union territory and city, latent demand estimates are created for precast concrete slabs and tile for roofing and flooring. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

Asbestos Floor Tile & Black Mastic - Wear Damage

"What damage?" Well, while not conspicuously apparent, some of the floor tiles pictured were subjected to excessive levels of physical wear and abrasion (from repeated movement of desk chair contact over time).

While the floor tiles as shown appear intact, some of the tiles' surfaces have been continually abraded by chair legs and slowly worn away which has exposed the inner tile asbestos matrix. Some of the worn tiles are only 1-2mm thin, with other portions ground through to the concrete substrate below.

The 2011 Report on Precast Concrete Slabs and Tile for Roofing and Flooring: World Market Segmentation by City

This report was created for global strategic planners who cannot be content with traditional methods of segmenting world markets. With the advent of a "borderless world", cities become a more important criteria in prioritizing markets, as opposed to regions, continents, or countries. This report covers the top 2000 cities in over 200 countries. It does so by reporting the estimated market size (in terms of latent demand) for each major city of the world. It then ranks these cities and reports them in terms of their size as a percent of the country where they are located, their geographic region (e.g. Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Latin America), and the total world market.

In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have been occasionally asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services across cities. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within a country and the extent to which a city might be used as a point of distribution within its region. From an economic perspective, however, a city does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries. To an economist or strategic planner, a city represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another.

In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for the world's major cities for "precast concrete slabs and tile for roofing and flooring" for the year 2011. The goal of this report is to report my findings on the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by a city when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales.

Some engineers, of course, have been exceptions. US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Gulf Region Division (GRD) Personal Security Detail (PSD). The Swords of Qadisiyah are a pair of triumphal arches in central Baghdad, Iraq. Each arch consists of a pair of hands holding crossed swords. The two arches mark the entrances to a parade-ground constructed to commemorate then Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's declaration of victory over Iran in the Iran-Iraq war (though the war was considered by many to have ended in stalemate). The arches were opened to the public on August 8, 1989. It is one of Baghdad's sights and monuments.
History In 1986 (two years before the war's end) the government of Iraq began the construction of a festival and parade ground in Zawra Park, near the extensive presidential complex in the center of Baghdad. Known as Grand Festivities Square, it comprised a large parade ground, an extensive review pavilion, and the two arches. The official name of the arches, the Swords of Qadisiyyah, is an allusion to the historical Battle of al-Qadisiyyah.
Iraq's leading sculptor, Adil Kamil, won the commission to design and execute the construction of the arches, which were based on a concept sketch made by president Saddam Hussein. The design consists of a pair of massive hands emerging from the ground, each holding a 140 foot (43 m) long sword. A small flagpole rises from the point where the swords meet, at a point about 130 feet (40 m) above the ground. Kamil used photographs and plaster casts of Saddam's forearms to model for the design of the hands. When Kamil died in 1987, with the monument incomplete, his position was assumed by fellow artist Mohammed Ghani. Ghani personally took an impression of one of Saddam's thumbs, and the resulting fingerprint was added to the mold for one of the arches' thumbs.
The arches were made by an international consortium led by the German foundry H+H Metalform. The blades of the stainless steel swords weigh 24 tons each. Cast in Iraq, they are partly composed of metal from guns and tanks of Iraqi soldiers killed in the Iran-Iraq war. The hands and arms of the monument are cast in bronze, cast in the United Kingdom at the Morris Singer Foundry. The arms rest on concrete plinths, the form of which make the arms appear to burst up out of the ground. Each plinth holds 2,500 helmets of, what Saddam claimed, Iranian soldiers killed during the war, and are held in nets which spill the helmets on to the ground beneath.
On the day the monument was dedicated in 1990, Saddam rode under the arch astride a white horse. It has been suggested this was an allusion to the slain Shiite martyr Hussein, killed in Karbala in AD 680. The martyr Hussein's death caused the rift between Shiite and Sunni Muslims.
The site was also home to the Museum of Gifts to the President and a performing arts center. The museum was located on the ground floor of the grand reviewing pavilion where Saddam was known to review the Republican Guard while firing a weapon in the air. The museum contained ordinary items donated by Iraqis during his rule. Items included cheap plastic ornaments and drawings donated by Iraqi children.
The Grand Festivities Square also contained a large reflecting pool. The surrounding grassy areas hosted Iraqis during military parades. Adding to the festive appeal of the grounds were three refreshments booths that sold ice cream, cold beverages, and candy.
Samir al-Kalil's book Monument: Art, Vulgarity, and Responsibility in Iraq[4] describes the Arc of Triumph and Saddam's programme of producing lavish monument celebrating his reign.
The monument was not destroyed during the 1991 Gulf War, though General Norman Schwarzkopf wanted to. The arches remain standing in what is now the Green Zone of Baghdad. The hands are hollow and many troops and other coalition visitors have climbed up into them in order to protrude from the point at which the swords meet the hands, generally to have souvenir pictures taken.

The demolition began on Tuesday, February 20, 2007. At that time, 10-foot chunks had been cut out of the bronze monument. Numerous Iraqi bystanders and coalition troops were seen taking helmets and bits of the monument away as souvenirs. The decision to remove the monument, made by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, was challenged by U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad, who blocked the demolition on February 21.
RestorationIn February 2011, Iraqi authorities began the restoration of the monument as a sign of reconciliation.

The room also features a painted mural of cherry trees along the windows. “In so many Japanese rock gardens, you’ll often see cherry trees which have soft pink blossoms. I wanted to bring in a bit of color through the mural to anchor the room and draw the eye naturally to the windows,” she says. The pink is also seen throughout the upholstery to help capture light.

As a LEED accredited professional, Nygaard understands the importance of sustainable design and used sustainable materials and finishes for this bedroom wherever possible. “Ever since I first visited the Redwood Forest, I was astonished that something so beautiful has lived for so many years. I instantly became interested in ways to improve the way I live to better impact my surroundings. For that reason, I have tried to incorporate sustainable design into my work.” Nygaard used a soycrete stain for the flooring, a sustainable wool rug of her own design, and a number of eco-friendly fabrics and furnishings. The bed and custom bookcases are manufactured by Team 7 which use various Sustainably-Managed Certified woods with a non-toxic finish. “Sustainability is the future of design; there is no escaping it,” she says.

Nygaard truly demonstrates her versatility as a designer in this bedroom for two different clients. “Through design, our world is beautified and customized to our lifestyle,” says Nygaard.

Home sweet home in the late 80's. This ~1886 victorian had been converted into three flats rented at very reasonable rates.

We lived on the ground floor. A second apartment behind us was occupied by an 80-something Sicilian gentleman with the most amazing postage-stamp garden in front of the house. He and I occasionally tried to communicate in my bad schoolbook Italian and his thick Siciliano. We'd sit on the front steps and chat until one day he tried to kiss me. Needless to say it was uninvited. After that I was friendly but kept my distance. Dementia plus libido can be a troublesome combination. He had family in Galveston but didn't live with them, and I decided that was why.

He occasionally had visitors in the evenings, young men who I guessed were probably hustlers. Sometimes there would be shouting. I didn't want to intrude so I just tried to ignore it. In retrospect I wish I'd talked to the old guy's family and gotten their instructions to call them or the police when I saw something amiss.

On the right was the house where I think I once saw the surgery resident who lived there cleaning a human skull with a garden hose in his back yard. Never a dull moment in Galveston!

Remodeling - Kitchen Floor

The parquet kitchen floor had to go... so outdated and scuffed up, ugh. This was a HUGE PAIN to get rid of...each little wood strip had to be chipped up one at a time, and then the subfloor had to be torn up from under it. Took us a couple weeks of backbreaking work to get this done.

This actually happened when I was playing the demo for Crackdown. The only thing that was exaggerated was the number of guards, instead of two, there was probably around 80, and the final box where the agent says something hardcore. He actually does something much more hardcore: SAYS NOTHING AT ALL. It could be one of the most epic happenings in my video game career.

The whole story:

Mission: Kill evil gang lady (part of Los Muertos)

I start as an agent dude at the bottom of what looks to be a project or appt complex of some sort. In the first few floors I get the hang of the controls and climb steadily upward. As I get to the top floor my patience for carefully fighting the cronies has diminished, and I start just shooting them as I run by. Eventually I reach a small stair case that seems to lead to the boss, according to the mini map. I run full speed up the stairs and am surprised to find the lady standing right there, so without missing a beat I instinctively press the melee button, cause my agent to do a flying kick from a full sprint, hitting her square in the stomach and shooting her off the top of the building. Not remembering that the building is like 8 stories high, I think "She's getting away!" as she flies off the edge of the building. So, I leap off after her, shooting her the entire way down with an automatic rifle. I remember her dying before she hit the ground and thinking "Maybe I didn't need to jump off the edge..." Also, I think I might have landed on top of her, but I'm not sure.

Ernie has that Look!!!

Not Sure if this a good side of Ernie, but the man always has his hands in his pockets. The man thinks alot I will tell you that a man a few word and a lot of action. I don't hink he was ready for a photo yet. he that I am going to kill you look on. Ernie is good man and nice but don't piss him off. He has survived a 10 story fall off a building when a waterboy knocked him off a floor he was clearing on a site. Busted his face right above the lip bleeding and barely able to walk he run ran the 10 floor to kick the guys butt, smartly the guy fled the never to be seen again. That is toughness and of course the adreneline flowing The fact he survived is a miracle and I am glad he did. He did The first Implosion in Dallas in 1968, by sending the fidelity building to a pile of rubble. He been destroying buildings for 40 years. The man is a local legend to me anyway. Many don't really care about demo men. I hope to change that view. By the way The man to the left in the tropical shirt is Mark Williams. He got me in contact with Ernie I can't thank him enough.

Wood Block Floors - Sandia Heights, Albuquerque, NM

This is a one of a kind floor. End cut 4x4 blocks. The old floor was a pinkish colored tile and this customer wanted something a little more natural. The floor was sanded very rough (per customer request), then stained and topped off with a couple of coats of polyurethane.

The stain color is "Dark Walnut". I really wanted to use "Special Walnut" because of the name, but it wasn't dark enough. I covered the stain with two coats of polyurethane.

The Room Into The Garden (59)

Earth Designs Garden Design and Build were asked to created a landscape and propose garden design in Acton, London*. Here are the details of the project

Brief: The plot for this design was a mid-size family garden, which had recently benefited from the addition of a large sunroom on the back of the property. It was a fairly blank canvas, with nothing of note to be retained in the re-design. The garden had side access and worn boundary fences which required replacing. There was no clear brief other than that the design include a seating area and some lawn, and that the transition from sunroom to garden be fairly seamless.

Solution: The focus of this design was to create an exterior space that serves as an extension to the interior, featuring several distinct and versatile areas that can be adapted to a variety of uses.

The garden's boundaries were replaced with new fencing to provide a uniform and attractive backdrop to the transformation within, while the long sideway down the right of the house was renovated with the addition of attractive 'bamboo' slate tile flooring in a random lay pattern.

The first section of the space comprises a large area of Western Red Cedar decking adjoining the house, and offers ample room for entertaining, with a long L-shaped fixed-bench seat stretching width-ways across the space from the left-hand side to the centre. This was backed with a rendered block raised bed, planted with fragrant lavender and capped with 'bamboo' slate tile, to provide a sense of enclosure and separation from the rest of the garden.

A decked walkway running down the right hand side of the space provides access to a 'spa' area, featuring a large square hot tub housed upon a reinforced paved hard-standing and nestled between existing and additional trees, shrubs and foliage to provide a secluded and intimate area for bathing throughout the seasons. Hidden behind mature and new planting in the bottom left corner, a large shed provides ample storage for the client's garden accessories. The middle of the space has been given over to a large lawn edges with slate.

A purple and yellow planting scheme of soft, cottage-style evergreen shrubs and flowering perennials will help to bring year round lightness and subtle colouring to the space.

After-dark hot tub bathing is enhanced by several strings of pea-lights woven through the existing shrubbery. Deck lights demark the main area of decking and guide one's journey along the decked walkway. Finally, spot lights in the beds highlight certain area while providing a gentle wash throughout the space.

Testimonial: "After months of planning and a full year of having builders everywhere, we had finally got the house into good shape but the garden was a nightmare. It had been somewhat overgrown before the builders moved in, but after a year of being used as a builders yard, it needed shock treatment.

We needed help fast so we searched the web. We were looking for garden designers with creative ideas for smaller London gardens. We didn't want anything too traditional but at the same time, nothing too extreme.

Earth Designs fitted the bill and after a design session with Katrina, we engaged them for the project. They had offered us a design service only, but as we only had a 4 week window in which to complete the job, we gave them the whole project.

We had built a new extension with wide glass doors that opened out into the garden, so the brief to Earth Designs was to "bring the outside, inside" and create a strong link between the new room and the garden beyond. The actual garden space was not large so we wanted to use the space as an extension of the living space - to be an "outside room".

Monday 18th April and three very charming men arrived on our doorstep at 8.0am sharp. Arlo was the project manager, ably aided and abetted by Paul and Phillip. They worked brilliantly as a team and always hit all the deadlines. In particular they did a great job in working with our neighbours to ensure the whole project ran smoothly.

The first week involved clearing the site - no mean feat with 30-year-old ivy stems that looked more like tree trunks.

The second week involved levelling the garden, putting up new fencing, building the corner seating base and planters, plus marking out the garden shape. It was good to be able to make minor changes to the design on the ground at this stage. The hot tub arrived too and was winched into place for connection later.

Week 3 saw the decking and seating built.

Then in week four the turf arrived, the lawn went down and on the last day, Katrina arrived with a truckload of wonderful specimens (and Matt) and we had a wonderful time planting. Ground Force Mk II - a complete garden from start to finish in just 4 weeks!

There were a few things that needed to be sorted out after the main work was complete. Earth Designs were great about coming back until all was complete and finished.

Azrieli Center is a complex of three skyscrapers in Tel Aviv, Israel. At the base of the center lies a large shopping mall.

The photo above was taken from The Azrieli Center Circular Tower (there are also Triangular and Square Towers), which is the tallest of the three towers, measuring 187m (614ft) in height. Construction of this tower began in 1996 and was completed in 1999. The tower has 49 floors, making it is the tallest building in Tel Aviv and the second tallest in Israel. The top floor has an indoor observation deck, from which one can see Tel Aviv and beyond.

The day was hazy, but we could still see for miles. The photo above is not a combination of few photos. It is one photo, which I was able to take because there was this reflection of the inside of the floor on the glass. I noticed the combination and took the photo, wondering how it'll come out. I think I'm pleased with the outcome *s*.

It's still super hot here, but it's going to change starting tomorrow. That's why we changed our plans and postponed our trip to southern Israel to next week. This week we still plan to visit Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. We'll try post few more photos before we go back home at the end of next week *s*.

Cone Nebula in Halpha

Cone and Fox-fur nebula in Halpha. Perhaps over-processed (a little ringing on the bright stars) and stretched a bit too much (a bit more noise that I'd like), but I wanted to see the faint stuff. This definitely needs more exposure time and subexposure time, but the clouds were frequently interrupting longer subexposures. Decided many shorter exposures were the way to go, letting me weed out the bad frames.

Kitchen, located on left side of house (when facing house from outside) - taken facing the back of house - that door leads to the utility room. the lady we bought house from took the DOGGIE door, so we were left with a gaping hole! - scary room isn't it? those metal cabinets were repainted with FLAT latex paint - popcorn on the cieling - nothing had really been done to this room since 1949 other than layering on floor coverings & paint.

My room

Not finished with my room, but at least I got my desktop and speakers done! but I need to get some curtains up and the wall next to my bed has to be painted black again.
Before, my bed was standing where the desktop is now so there has been a few "bigger" changes :) and I'm pleased. Totally in love with my new black, shiny desktop and speakers!

Building shelves for basement organization. There will be 35 shelves units made which fit together and will be homes for 135 apple boxes. Jerry found and improvised on this super fantastic system. The boxes will hold yarn, fabric, craft supplies, ribbon, lace, toys etc I just hope I don't have more and 135. Jerry won't take me to yard sales any more because he says we have a series storage problem. My renters just finished moving out and now I must go take off old wax and put new wax on the kitchen floor, wash a few windows, vacuum the basement and use Magic Erasers on a few spots on the walls all by myself because Jerry is away helping a friend. I am a million million million times thankful that they truly truly left the house almost as clean as they found it plus they updated ceiling light fans and a bunch of other stuff.

Swept away.
