(10) The Legend of the Redline! The Friday before last, I noticed a cart in the warehouse labeled "DO NOT STOCK." I glanced at it and noticed a few dozen bottles of something but couldn't investigate further. Then later I was in the breakroom eating lunch when Jenny came in, and as usual she reached into the fridge for her drink. "What's that?" I asked, as she pulled this shiny blue metal bottle out of the fridge. She took a swig and sighed. "It's Redline, that new energy drink we just got? It's AWESOME! I stocked, like, thirty totes this morning! And I only drank half of it!" "Dear god. Is that the stuff from the cart? What is it? What's IN it?" So she handed it to me and offered me a sip. I declined, but turned to the supplement facts. "So why aren't we stocking it?" And she told me that she'd put it aside because she didn't know whether our store manager Brenda would want us to sell it. Or, if Brenda wants us to sell it, that maybe we should consider putting it in the locked case instead of the shelf, since it's got the "not for use for children under 18" warning. As I read the label I kinda understood why we had them in the back; the stuff had a long list of potent ingredients like 5-HTP (which most people take to boost serotonin, like an antidepressant), Yohimbe (most often seen in male libido formulas), normal fat burner stuff like green tea and yerba mate, Evodiamine which is supposed to be a thermogenic, and a bunch of other stuff including anhydrous caffeine. There's also a scary warning disclaimer longer than my livejournal profile, warning people that they shouldn't drink it if they're over 15 lbs overweight, even though the label claims it's a "fat incinerator" or some such nonsense. This stuff claims to work by evoking a "shivering" response. Uh, sure. As the day went on, the legend of the Redline spread. Toby tried a sip of Jenny's and felt weird instantaneously. But in a good way. She put a few aside to buy for her and her husband. Laura also put one aside to take home. Assistant manager M bought one and drank it. Slowly the two-dozen in the cart dwindled, and on Sunday when I came in to work there was nothing in the cart at all! I saw M hand the last bottle to a male friend who came in that morning, and she bought it for him with her discount. (I'm sure the male was her brother, as per company discount policy.) "Friends don't let friends drink Redline," I joked. Then later I was talking to Laura about the Redline and she said, "That stuff is CRAZY. I brought a bottle home, and I gave it to my husband. He took one drink and he yelled, 'You have to get some more of these! Buy 'em all!'" She didn't buy them all, but she did get six more to take home. Which, at that point, was probably among the few we had left in the warehouse. I haven't heard about the fate of Redline, but you know, if my manager decides not to sell these, I suspect she will be missing out on some serious profits. If an energy drink is amazing enough to get half of my coworkers scrambling for it, surely it will be enough to get some repeat customers from the gym next door. Of course there's nothing to stock anymore since we finished off a couple of cases, but maybe once we get another shipment, customers will get a chance to try it. 83. Raid a rich persons kitchen Didnt sleep too well last night. I was up fairly late reading Watchers, so far its pretty good. I have no idea whats going on but Im quite interested lol. I didnt sleep much once the sun came up, kept doing the whole wake up and turn over and go back to sleep for a few minutes thing. But got up at...um...dont remember lol but I showered and ate peanut butter and waited for 4 to come around. Ryan picked me up. We walked up some "hill" behind where he used to live. It was pretty fun lol I love doing stuff like that but I hate that I cant breath :/ So I couldnt talk much, but its not like I knew what to say anyway lol. The view was awesome, it was killin me that I didnt have my camera! But shooting in front of him would probably make me super nervous. We got back to the truck and he decides to try to make me touch the stupid air thingys! I dont like to touch things that arent mine.. Its his truck, he will keep it how he likes it, I dont wanna touch it lol. Well he cranks the heat up and its whatever, we get all the way to the park and I dont touch it but he continues to be a punk about it lol. We swang for a bit and sat on this rock ledge thing for a bit before I could go back to my house. I grabbed my new purse, which is very annoying to carry.. but I had $21 so we went to Burger King. We sat in some random parking lot and ate. We sat there quite a while, he made me touch the stupid air thingy.. lol. He sang, like always :) I like listening to him sing, and watching him. Its not creepy either! Good lookin people were put on this planet to be enjoyed, all I do is enjoy it to the fullest lol. Well April texted so we met up with her at Walmart. Talked for a few minutes and then that was that. We drove around for a bit, trying to find somewhere to park lol. We ended up parking by a dead end in a nice neighborhood. I dont think I could ever grow bored of just sitting with him, talking to him, listening to him, cuddling with him :) I know, Im hopless but I dont mind lol. It neared 10, my cut off time, so he took me home. I dont like saying goodbye to him at all! But I had fun the 6 hours we were hanging out lol So Im gonna be staying with April this weekend. Taking my pig, which Im happy about. I feel so bad cause Im barely here and he doesnt get proper attention but the kids are gonna LOVE him! I miss them already so Im glad Im going back. Im not too excited about how damn cold it is at night there tho lol. Im so hungry. Iv been eating peanut butter all day, I dont even like peanut butter! But that n potatoes is all I can eat right now so once I finish this up Im gonna make a baked potatoe. I want food so bad! I have a love hate relationship with Food Network. I looove to cook, and looove to eat but when I cant do either it just drives me mad! I want something really good! I wanna cook for someone. I miss cooking. Might have to pick up some stuff for this weekend. I should do hw, but my head hurts... Maybe my room has mold or something cause its pretty unbareable most the time in here. But I think Im just gonna read Watchers, its easier on my head if its ok to skim. About the sticky note. Iv been saying it for years! My mom and I used to drive around the nice rich neighborhoods and talk about what it must be like, and wonder about what kind of jobs those people had, and she'd talk about what she'd do if she had that kind of space. But my fascination has always been about what rich people must eat. Im not talking about any old rich lawyer or doctor but someone who was born into wealth by someone who was born into it as well by someone who was also born in to it and so on. I wanna know what they eat, what they drink, what they have for breakfast. What do they give their kids? Do they eat Fruity Pebbles? Do they even know what Koolaid is? What kind of juice do they drink? I could care less about the rest of their house, I just wanna see their kitchen lol. It got brought up when Ryan and I were driving through a real rich lookin neighborhood. I just wanna knock on one of their doors and be like lemme see in your fridge! lol. The picture is pretty random. You can see my tripod in my glasses, which I got from the Halloween store. I was partly inspired by a photo of Ryans, I wanted to show off my new shades lol. Hey, guess what!! I cant stop smiling, and I love that feeling. I love being happy, really truely happy. Theres a lot shit to worry about, shit to think about, shit that would normally bring me down but ya know what? Im not gonna let it. I have good people in my life, people that make me smile, people that care and I can care for. I wake up everyday and the sun is up. I have the most amazing thing, and thats the opportunity to see that sun again tomorrow. I have every reason to be happy. You knew that the hives were long gone, the wood that had made them now junked and broken in the hollow, along with radiators and refrigerators and, somehow, a tractor; and when our searches turned up nothing, you insisted we build another. I labored for weeks, and when the boxes were formed, you whitewashed them with a recipe learned from mother's mother. Standing to one side, watching you there flinging the brush at the walls of this thing as if it were a wild wolf you hoped to tame, I couldn't help but wonder where you would get the bees, and if when they came you would find in them the solace that you sought. But the bees came and came. And the next season, we had honey, bursting the combs; and even through the canning, and even through long evenings when we both had grown sick of the sweetness of honey, you would pause and look up through screen doors, as if listening for a bell that I could never hear. I am haunted by your hunger, for honey and its combs. In the fridge:Day two eighty two (2/19/11) This morning Kaitie and I went to Sky High Jump Sports, and I have to say that it is the most amazing jump experience ever! It is an entire warehouse filled with connected massive trampolines. We went to the morning workout session and it was seriously the most fun workout I have ever had. I love trampolines. I am pretty sure that is the most I have legitimately smiled in a very very long time. I felt it to the depths of my soul and it radiated throughout my entire being. I can't wait to go back. As for this picture, I am always intrigued by photos that make you question how they were taken. I have been wanting to take a photo from inside the fridge for some time. This is not at all the moment I wanted to capture, but it was good enough for a practice run...and its alright. Otis and I have decided to share our favorite recipe for deep fried turkey. Some of my Flickr friends know my passion for cooking, and yes... it extends to Thanksgiving, too ! Note: This is all at your own risk. Basic Prep: The night before frying........After you have cleaned your bird, choose a blend of seasonings that you usually enjoy from day to day - especially those that compliment poultry. I prefer Cavendar's Greek Seasoning, Luzianne Cajun Seasoning, garlic and a little cayenne pepper for a kick. I have experimented with both orange juice and beer as a carrier, and beer has won out in flavor every time. It doesn't matter if it's cheap beer or expensive - it adds flavor. Both beer and OJ can break down the meat to help make it nice and tender. I prefer to use flat beer - just to keep the fizz factor down. You want to be heavy on the seasonings because both it and the seasonings will be injected using a meat syringe. The bottle of Insatiable is for yours truly :) Tip: use a little cooking oil to lube the inside of the injector. Inject the seasoning and beer blend in as many areas as you can reach. One technique is to slowly inject as you slowly pull the syringe from the meat. This helps keep the spices deep inside. Once finished, wrap the bird in plastic and then refrigerate. Cooking Don't let the TV news scare your from trying one of the most flavorful meals that you will taste. Folks end up on the news because they don't take certain precautions when frying turkeys outdoors. Pull the bird out of the water. The line where the water is ... is your mark for filling with peanut oil. 4) Use only peanut oil. It has a higher flash point and can be used multiple times. 5) Optimum cooking temperature is 350-degrees F. ** Warning ** Avoid putting a turkey in oil at 350-F. Start at 290 or 300 and gradually increase the heat and cooking time. 6) Carefully, slowly and methodically lower the bird into the hot peanut oil. 7) Increase your heat to reach 350. Repeat with remaining oil and patties. 4. In small microwave bowl, microwave jam uncovered on High 20 to 30 seconds or until hot and bubbly; stir in butter with wire whisk until melted. Using serrated knife, split biscuits. Spread 2 teaspoons strawberry butter on cut sides of each biscuit. Fill biscuits with patties. If desired, place 4 cocktail picks in each sandwich, one in each quadrant; cut sandwiches into quarters with serrated knife. Recipe for Indian Opo Curry Ingredients: 1 Opo (cut into small cubes) 1 tomato (cut into small cubes) 2 Tbsps of clarified butter (pure Indian Ghee) 1/4 tsp Turmeric 2-4 curry leaves (purchase in Indian markets) 1 tsp cumin seeds 1/4 tsp mustard seeds 1 tsp channa daal 2 tsps coriander/cilantro leaves Salt to taste In a vessel or dish, pour the ghee and heat it for a minute and add the cumin seeds, channa daal, mustard seeds, turmeric, and curry leaves. Once the seeds pop out or make noise then add the opo into the dish and mix it well with other ingredients and cook it for 5 minutes and then add the tomato and salt to taste. Stir it again and cook it for 10 minutes or until soft. In the end garnish it with the cilantro leaves. 2) General Info about the Opo Squash. Opo is one of the best vegetables to be had all year around, especially in the summer as it's very light on the stomach and is easy to digest. In general any squash is a good source of fiber and it helps relieve constipation, flatulence and piles. Always have the Opo squash in the cooked form, raw Opo may be harmful for your stomach and intestines. Opo is a long narrow variety of squash, very similar to zucchini in flavor, that is often considered to be of African decent, but common in southern Europe and Asia. Grown most often in warmer climates, this squash grows from 6 to 36 inches long and 3 to 12 inches in diameter. The outer skin can range in color from yellow to green while the inner flesh, which contains seeds, is firm textured and white in color. When young, the squash has a mild flavor, but as it matures the taste becomes increasingly bitter. When it is allowed to grow larger in size, it is often used as containers, thus the alternate name of "bottle gourd." It is a good squash for sauteing, stir-frying, or as an ingredient for soups and stews. It can be kept refrigerated for approximately 1 week. In addition to bottle gourd, other names commonly referred to for this squash are: calabash, Italian edible gourd, long fruited gourd, long melon, long squash, peh poh, woo lo kua, hu lu gua, New Guinea bean, Tasmania bean, snake gourd, suzza melon, or zuzza. It's really gotten popular in the last decade or so to have your own kimchi refridgerator in your own home...in the olden days people used to bury the cabbage in their garden or back yard, but nowadays most people don't have any green space! From the fridge backlit I saw a picture taken from inside a guy's mailbox as he was reaching in to get his mail a couple years ago. That's where I got the inspiration to photograph from inside the fridge. I set the timer for 10 seconds and had the camera take 5 pics from inside. Alisha's FFA Pig,,,,,, Bullwinkle Well,,,,, I have become a Super Mom in the past 8 weeks helping my daughter become more responsible & grow & learn about the care in Animals, specifically Pigs. This has been a VERY trying & my daughter learning appreciation in so many different ways during this experience has been mentally & physically exhausting. This is a shot I took 11 days ago on my phone, we are in a crunch for this specific pig to make weight for our local fair, (Ingham County Fair). A pig to go to the fair has to be #220 or it can not enter the fairgrounds to show, well this particular pig has been weighted at #180 at this picture & I had to come up with someway for Bullwinkle to make #40 in 12 days. After calling & meeting with a local pig farmer, he did not think that Bullwinkle would ever get to fair weight. I then got onto the internet & researched with the help of Gollygforce (G) & found a few other ways to get him to eat more & FAST! I had to buy mass amounts of Eggs, Molasses, Dry Milk, Corn Oil & Ground Corn. This mixture made into an oatmeal like mash has gained #22 pounds in 5 days, but my daughter & I have had to hand feeding him 4X a day. I also have had a Swine Professor from Michigan State University come to the barn to see if there was anything else we could do to get Bullwinkle up to weight Faster! He was a great help & stated we were doing already everything we could do for the length of time we had left. For those that do not know a the background on me,,, I have 3 herniated disks in my neck & I blew out my right knee in March & have a Surgery on my knee to have a Lateral Release & Meniscus repair September 8th 2011. I am a walking basket of pain & this pig S T I N K S !!!!!!! Every time I come home from the barn (90-100 degree days) for the past 2 weeks, I smell so bad that I have to change in my Garage before I enter my own house! I grew up on a farm but not with Pigs! Whew,,,,, wanted to share my past MANY weeks of preparation for the fair for my daughter to have a good time, Learn, Grow, Appreciate & just have some fun in FFA Swine. Fair starts August 1-6 & I just hope all our HARD WORK will show Alisha a different respect for animals & ME! She will be selling Bullwinkle the day after showing at the Fair auction. Pray for Alisha that her pig makes weight to get into the fair. Pray for Alisha to get Bullwinkle sold in auction or I have to figure that one out after the fair & my freezer can't hold all that meat! And most of all,,,,PLEASE Pray for me, my sanity & my health for I am utterly exhausted Mentally & Physically! crap happened! sock monkey did not like the 46C temp (with humidity) and decided to ditch her nose to cool off. luckily, the hall had a walk-in freezer and the staff was pretty nice about giving me space to do repairs. Client was best ever and said, "if this was a tv show, this would be the best episode ever - drama!" and "it happens on cake boss all the time and I'm sure you'll find a way to fix it." rock on!
