Just putting a band like "A New Revolt" together was a chore and a bad idea right from the get go, as far as I was concerned at the time. When I’d talked to a mutual acquaintance of both front man Rayce and I, over the phone, he’d talked the new band up surprisingly well, and admittedly it had sounded like a good idea, considering I’d been out of the saddle for near a year, and the itch to play my drums again was becoming unbearable. That was where my muse and vigor for this new project ended. It was clear that from day one, the transition from a band such as Dune to one of ANR’s platform was not going to be a smooth one for me.
By the large Dune had basically been shaped as a main stream rock group. Sure we all indulged in the listening of a vast spectrum of musical styles and artists the world had to offer. Our "Guys" nights out cruising the streets of Idaho Falls, and late night gatherings in the corner store parking lots were never in small supply of an array of music, varying from groups like Dave Matthews Band, to Rush, to Soul Fly to of course my personal favorite Static X. I’d always considered that despite the lack of big city awareness a small Idaho town offered, we’d always done a far job of keeping current with whatever was new in the music world. As such we’d styled and recreated ourselves more then a half dozen times, sampling as many different arenas as we could, and incorporating what ever we’d learned when ever we could. New instruments, new chops, I’d even redesigning my trap set up a few times. One must except change in order to grow, so I’m told.
Despite all of our exploring, all of our re-platforming, and all of our maturing we eventually found the sound that seemed to flow best with us was the one we’d originally started out with. Inspired by artists such as Pink Floyd, INXS, and later Collective Soul and even (shutters at the thought) Third Eye Blind (to this day the inspiration from those bands are where my firmly planted roots still ly), most of Dune’s set was aimed at being radio savvy, catchy, and easily digestible. In other words we had the perfect recipe for a one hit wonder band...Not so oddly ironic, we never even managed to do that. Incorporating songs like "Jed" or "Eat Pork" had been liberating to create, but did not necessarily flow with the rest of our set.
I’ll take this opportunity to incorporate the reliable old "description to better garner a mental image" bit. With all of the fore mentioned knowledge in hand, try to picture the mid twenties partially seasoned rock drummer, that would be me, setting up his trap set in his buddies garage, for a Jam session with some potential new band mates, when in walks still in High School metal head guitarist Leon, his side kick Steve, and our soon to be behemoth of a front man Rayce (Rob did not join up until a year or so later).
The uncomfortable introductions alone had been something of a pain staking experience, one that I might have compared to having my testicles suddenly entrapped in a large book. Out side of reading in the nude, how one might manage to get ones testicles suddenly entrapped in a large book is one I’ve not really pondered on deeply at any point in my life, but I imagine that had it ever happened at any point in the expanse of my life, I feel quite confidant that I would have found it to be most displeasing.
The moment I’d met what I would be calling my new band mates for a good number of years there after, had me questioning my part in the band right there and then. I’ve always been a poor judge of character, especially when it comes to first impressions. It’s not uncommon for me to look at a person and assume right out of the gate, that he or she is going to be a problem. Now understanding that flawed tick in my internal makings, and despite the fact that in my aged disposition I am generally right these days, I trying to assert that knowledge, and be more open minded. But at the time, after spending the better part of five years playing with a group of guys I’d known since my tender years of High School, and regarded as dear friends, meeting this motley crew of long haired weirdo’s and pro foot ball looking freaks, was down right frightening. I did not like them. Not even a little.
The weeks that fallowed did not improve my opinion of them, nor do I believe my suggestions and nagging, that would eventually earn me the name "Mother" in the group, earned me many points in their favor. I recall wasting no less then four nights worth of practice just trying to agree on a name for the band. It wasn’t so much that we could not find common ground in the idea that it should be some what edgy, I just could not detach myself from the idea that using such words as "death" "necrophilia" or "Satin" for example, seemed a little cliche and to honest, just d

Azazel Steig would wait for her to take a seat before following in behind her, letting the door swing shut with a loud clatter. Fingers searched the hard concrete walls till he found the switch to the secondary light and with a soft click, a single, almost unbearably bright bulb flashed to life directly over the table. He glanced behind her, something on the wall catching his attention for a moment, perhaps the restraint, or perhaps it was the sink. If he had heard her retort it went unanswered. Either he was deaf, or years of service in the marines had given him a callouused skin to such taunts. "Would you care for a glass of water?" he stepped over to the table and a single digit would depress the record button on the device sitting on the metal desk.
Guinevere Fouroux sinks into the seat carefully, her fingers wrapping around the back of the chair as she had the mad, fleeting thought of trying to hurl it at him across the room. Light explodes overhead, making her wince and look away, hiding him in stark white. She blinks to find him at his question, eyes trying to adjust to the blinding light. Her instinct is to refuse, but she sees no point. She merely nods, catching the soft click of the ancient recorder in front of her. At least, that's what she thinks it is. "Why do you need to record this?"
Azazel Steig tipped his head slightly in a curt nod and moved over to the sink, fingers working the knob of the cool, surprisingly clean tap water and held a paper cup under its flow. "All questioning that happens in this room is recorded Miss Fouroux, standard procedure." Some water would roll over the rim of the glass as he spoke, reminding him to turn off the spout, flicking damp digits free of any remaining moisture. He took casual steps back to the table and sat across from her, sliding the paper cup across. "Enjoy," something knowing held in the smile that he offered.
Guinevere Fouroux tilts her head, away from the light, and watches as he poured the water. "I suppose I should find that reassuring," she mutters. She tracks him as he sits, as best she can as her eyes continue to adjust. Her mouth waters a little as the cup is slid over to her, but her hands curl uselessly behind her, still bound in the cuffs. But she says nothing, and searches out the gold of his eyes. "What is it you need to know?" she says slowly.
Azazel Steig knew the placing of the chair he sat in, knowing if he sat just so, the cone of light that blared down from that bulb would just catch the tip of his chin, the rest of his features remaining hidden in the shadows. ...
