You’ve read book after book, devouring chapters of blazing gazes and whispered promises, but as the last page turns, four walls return and you’re left, alone and silent, in the emptiness.

You’ve watched friend after friend float down a petal-strewn aisle, your bridesmaid dress fitting a bit too snug, pondering when it will be you tossing the bouquet instead of catching it.
You’ve trailed rivers of tears down your pillow in the dark, replaying the events of hours earlier and asking yourself over and over why you just weren’t enough.

Here is the flower girl of a wedding I did last year. We were on the floor of a brightly lit corridor, I was armed with my 50mm lens, waiting for the bride to get dressed. The little really wanted me to take her photo, so easy to shoot under such circumstances.

Bats are flying mammals in the order Chiroptera. The forelimbs of bats are webbed and developed as wings, making them the only mammals naturally capable of true and sustained flight. Face painting ideas in my sketchbook
I looked up and drew a few ideas of the simple face painting drawings for our community gardens open house event. I also wanted to use little stamps for that(upper right corner), but maybe because they were one color, nobody chose any of them).
Snakes, plam tree, butterflies, and catepillar seemed to be the most popular.
And by the way, not even one kid wated their face painted - all wanted it on their hands and arms. Maybe because I didn't have a mirror...We had Alex face painting crayons, and those were useless, so we had to do with pastel snazaroo paints that we had, and those were great, just very light.
Cuphea Ilavea ..Bat Faced Plant
This is a plant we have in a pot outside our back door. It didn't do much all summer, but now has tons of flowers on it. Though the latin name is Cuphea Ilavea ...the more common name is bat faced plant as the blooms resemble that of a bat's face. This plant is an annual in our area.

The popularity of Mexican Heather exploded in the 1980s, and this plant, is still an excellent choice.
The first species that comes to mind is the bat-faced cuphea, or Cuphea llavea. Summer's heat will not stop these unique flowers that look like bat faces with scarlet red petals and little, purple mouse ears. The stems become slightly woody, arching and weather-tough. These are low maintenance, drought-tolerant, heat-loving plants. They also make great house plants or patio plants.

My second Wedding (well, not MY 2nd wedding, but my 2nd wedding cake delivery!).
The venue was another beautiful Marquee, in the middle of the beautiful Kentish countryside. It was held on the only day this week that hasn't seen torrential rain. Which is why I hardly slept a WINK the night before, because I was terrified all of my sugar flowers would melt overnight (A la Chris/Abbie Tabbie!).
Anyway, some of them (the hearts particularly) were a little bit floppy, but mustn't have been too bad as I had a call before 10am the very next morning from the Groom thanking me. Phew! Was I relieved.
Strange Attractor Butterfly Release
The butterflies were ordered as adults for overnight delivery. Inside this package is a live butterfly. Not the nicest thing but they don't seem too stressed out by the experience.

Mrs. Sarah Lynch lays a flower at the base of the Vietnam War's Battle of Hill 881 South monument during San Antonio Fiesta's All-Veterans Memorial Service
Lt. Gen. Rick Lynch, commanding general of Installation Management Command, was the honored speaker at the All-Veterans Memorial Service on Sunday, April 17, 2011. He and his wife, Mrs. Sarah Lynch, attended the event along with Command Sgt. Maj. Neil Ciotola, held at the Monument for the Battle of Hill 881 South on Veterans Square Auditorium Circle in downtown San Antonio, Texas.
The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 366 hosted the service on the last day of Fiesta, an 11-day “Party With a Purpose” that donates all proceeds to local charities. About 100 people attended the service, including members of the military from units and commands based in San Antonio, veterans, members of the Vietnamese-American Community and those simply wanting to say “thanks.”
Lynch told the story behind the monument dedicated to the Vietnam War’s Battle of Hill 881 South, an image of a radio operator treating a wounded comrade. The operator’s face is lifted toward the sky, searching for the medevac helicopter to help his friend, Lynch explained.
“I think a lot about freedom and about how somebody paid for it,” he said to the multitude of veterans and servicemembers in the crowd. “Those somebodies are here in the crowd today. I’m humbled to be in your presence.”
Pointing to the medals on his uniform, he said, “These trappings mean nothing to me. What’s important to me is recognizing those who serve. I want to thank you for your service.”
Lynch also took time to recognize the difficulties both Wounded Warriors and Gold Star Families face during recovery and asked that Americans take time thank them for their service. He reminded the crowd of the tragedy they have live through every day since the attack on Sept. 11 and that the Army will be fighting that war for another decade.
“We took the fight to there so we don’t have to fight on the streets of San Antonio,” he asserted as the crowd applauded. “We need your continued support.”
Trong Pham, chief engineer of the personnel system at Randolph Air Force Base, the “Expression of Gratitude” speaker at the service, represented the Vietnamese-American Community of San Antonio. Born and raised in Vietnam, he told the story of his escape from his home country in 1977 at age 19. His boat was lost on the South China Sea until he and the other refugees were rescued by American C-130 helicopters.
“I can’t express in words how much this event means to me,” he said. “This event reminded me of how fragile freedom is without sacrifice. We can’t enjoy the life we have here without our veterans.”
After arriving in America, Pham went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, as well as a master’s and a Ph.D. during his 25 years of service with the Air Force. He continued to serve after his time in the military, working in civil service.
The event ended with a 21-gun salute and a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the foot of the memorial. Lt. Gen. For bands like the Sundays that put out albums very infrequently (only three in eight years), passing fads cannot exert undue influence; consistency is the key to staying power. Thank God the Sundays never went grunge. On this, their second album, the forthright and spare power of their debut has ceded somewhat to lusher production values and more complex arrangements, but the good news is that the rest of the band's presence has caught up with Harriet Wheeler's crystalline voice. Together they produce such marvels as "Goodbye," "Love," and an off-kilter version of the Stones' "Wild Horses." On a weekend spent visiting jamie's friends and family in north Wales we managed to squeeze a trip to Chester zoo in. Being hailed as the biggest in the UK my expectations were quite high of what the zoo had to offer. I'm glad to say I was not let down, one day is simply not enough to get around the place and take it all in.
This butterfly simply must have been confused, continually returning to the fake flowers was proberbaly not great for him but it made a great shot for me . I shot this Giant Wood Nymph butterfly with my sigma 75-300mm lens and natural light.

'A good quarter of a league farther on in the wood; her house stands under the three large oak-trees, the nut-trees are just below; you surely must know it,' replied Little Red Riding Hood.
The wolf thought to himself: 'What a tender young creature! what a nice plump mouthful - she will be better to eat than the old woman. I must act craftily, so as to catch both.'
So he walked for a short time by the side of Little Red Riding Hood, and then he said: 'See, Little Red Riding Hood, how pretty the flowers are about here - why do you not look round? I believe, too, that you do not hear how sweetly the little birds are singing; you walk gravely along as if you were going to school, while everything else out here in the wood is merry.'
Little Red Riding Hood raised her eyes, and when she saw the sunbeams dancing here and there through the trees, and pretty flowers growing everywhere, she thought: 'Suppose I take grandmother a fresh nosegay; that would please her too. It is so early in the day that I shall still get there in good time.'
So she ran from the path into the wood to look for flowers. And whenever she had picked one, she fancied that she saw a still prettier one farther on, and ran after it, and so got deeper and deeper into the wood.
Meanwhile the wolf ran straight to the grandmother's house and knocked at the door.
'Who is there?'
'Little Red Riding Hood,' replied the wolf. 'She is bringing cake and wine; open the door.'
'Lift the latch,' called out the grandmother, 'I am too weak, and cannot get up.'
The wolf lifted the latch, the door sprang open, and without saying a word he went straight to the grandmother's bed, and devoured her. Then he put on her clothes, dressed himself in her cap, laid himself in bed and drew the curtains.
Little Red Riding Hood, however, had been running about picking flowers, and when she had gathered so many that she could carry no more, she remembered her grandmother, and set out on the way to her.
She was surprised to find the cottage-door standing open, and when she went into the room, she had such a strange feeling that she said to herself: 'Oh dear! how uneasy I feel today, and at other times I like being with grandmother so much.' She called out: 'Good morning,' but received no answer; so she went to the bed and drew back the curtains. There lay her grandmother with her cap pulled far over her face, and looking very strange.
'Oh! grandmother,' she said, 'what big ears you have!'
'All the better to hear you with, my child,' was the reply.
'But, grandmother, what big eyes you have!' she said.
'All the better to see you with, my dear.'
'But, grandmother, what large hands you have!'
'All the better to hug you with.'
'Oh! but, grandmother, what a terrible big mouth you have!'
'All the better to eat you with!'
And scarcely had the wolf said this, than with one bound he was out of bed and swallowed up Red Riding Hood.
When the wolf had appeased his appetite, he lay down again in the bed, fell asleep and began to snore very loud.

Day 84/365 - I 'll Tell You A Story
So you are probably thinking this is another one of my Spring has sprung photos and yes it is but, “Let me tell you a story”.
When I first moved into my house 30 odd years ago my Dad bought me this Magnolia Tree, he had always heard me say if I ever have my own place I wanted a Magnolia Tree so I could sit under there in the summer drinking Mint Juleps, (why I don’t know, maybe I was southern in my past life). Anyway about 2 weeks after I moved in my Dad drove up and in his hands he had this twig which grew up to be this beautiful Magnolia Tree that now sits in my front yard.
People are always asking me don’t you get sick of cleaning up all those leaves, don’t you think it is two big for the front yard…… and I always say “nope”. Two years ago I thought I almost lost the tree; the people that redid the cement in my driveway had to cut into its roots and as anyone that has a Magnolia knows the root system is something else with these trees. Anyway it lost lots of its leaves and I kept going out there fertilizing, watering and just praying it would not die and by some miracle it came back just as strong and beautiful as ever.
Why do I care so much about this tree, well 3 months after Dad and I planted it he passed away. So every summer on August 28th no matter what the weather is I go out there with my Mint Julep and me and “Dad” sit there and watch the people walk by and we toast to life.

How to Make A Mint Julep
Gather 3 sprigs of fresh mint
Measure 2 teaspoons of cold water.
Measure 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar.
Gather about 1 cup of crushed ice.
Measure 2-1/2 ounces of bourbon.
Tear off the leaves of 2 of the mint sprigs and place them in the bottom of a tall glass.
Add water and sugar and stir until sugar is dissolved and mint is bruised.
Fill glass with finely crushed ice and pour bourbon over the ice.
Stir and garnish with remaining mint leaves.
Serve with a straw under a magnolia tree.

Thought I would continue the flower theme for a couple of more posts.
This photo of of an Ox Eye Daisy was taken after a brief rain storm . For such a beautiful and delicate flower... it is an "invasive" species. It is a Eurasian Perennial and frequents low to mid elevations in moist to moderately dry locations. Nevertheless... I do find them a beautiful and seemingly delicate flower.
The word Daisy is from the Anglo-Saxon "Day's eye", which is apparently a reference to the fact the English daisy closes at night and opens again at sun-up. They are incredibly prolific, one of the most common flowers in North America, and will overgrow any area if not kept in check... which may or may not be a bad thing depending on how you look at it. The Scentless Chamomile is often mistaken for an Ox-eye as they look VERY similar.
This shot should have been taken with a circular polarizer attached but the drop-in filter for my Nikkor 200-400 f4 lense was not at hand so I made do. It would be a MUCH better photo if it had been taken with the polarizer. The angle of incidence and the DOF make the composition for me though.
