After having a lot of fun with the Holga, I decided that I wanted to pick up a film SLR and for awhile debated whether or not I wanted to shell out $350 for a used Nikon F4 or F5 on Adorama or $25 for a used N8008. I decided on the N8008. I thought it was a cheap enough investment to see if I'm really serious about film. Digital is nice, but I'm really starting to develop a new love for good ol' fashioned film. I got my first roll of Ilford HP5 loaded up and ready to go. rika Up until about a year ago I had never owned a digital camera. And then slowly but surely most of the jobs I was doing were starting to request I go digital. They didn't want to pay film expenses anymore. I live in Osaka, but everything in this industry in Japan resides in Tokyo and they want everything fast, fast, fast! So I jumped ship and bought the Nikon D200 the first month it came out. The other day I was shooting a friends engagement party (not a job) when I got caught in a champange toast. I got the stuff all over my nikon and despite efforts to clean it off, my camera basically died a sticky death the next day. I took it to the nikon service centre and they broke it down to me - 2 weeks and a max of US$850 to fix it. Now I'm back working with my Mamiya RZ and I can't believe I neglected it for so many months now. The lenses are so beautiful and produce images I just can't get with my nikon. It's got me thinking again just how warped the photo industry has become. If time isn't a factor I'm going back to my Mamiyas and going to pay the film expenses out of my own pocket if I have to. I wonder how long this will last?!?!?!?
