Slow Motion Flame (Fire) Porn

Slow Motion Flame (Fire) Porn

I tried different slow motion modes for this campfire video, because Casio Exilim EX-F1 high-speed camera needs a lot of light for 600 FPS. 1200 FPS was too dark.

This took four and half seconds in real-time, which means it is 20 times slower.

My first attempt at high-speed video with the Casio Exilim EX-FH100. Not bad.

240 fps.

edit: I think I need a different video editing program - Windows Movie Maker sped this up, methinks. It seems slower when I play it back on the camera...

DAKINE Sequence Photo Pack, Black

DAKINE Sequence Photo Pack, Black

DaKine Outdoor Camera Backpack

Based in Hood River, Oregon, DAKINE was founded in Maui, Hawai'i in 1979 by longtime surfer, Rob Kaplan. DAKINE'S first product, a revolutionary new surf leash, quickly gained worldwide popularity. This first leash led to more surfing related products, built to withstand the punishing conditions of the surf on the north shore of Hawai'i. In Hawaiian slang, "Da Kine" means the best and the company has lived up to this standard through attention to detail, focus on accessories, and a notoriously thorough design process.
With its reputation for top quality products and attention to detail, DAKINE quickly grew beyond its surfing roots and has become the standard in board sports accessories for the top athletes in the worlds of snowboarding, skiing, skateboarding, mountain biking, windsurfing, and kiteboarding, as well as surfing.
To better serve the growing worldwide demand for DAKINE product, a factory and distribution center were opened in Hood River, Oregon in 1986 and the facility soon replaced operations on Maui's north shore to become the principal factory and point of distribution. DAKINE's Oregon location, in the heart of the Gorge and the base of Mount Hood--a hot spot with North American windsurfers and snowboarders--also helps the company maintain its competitive edge by giving the product development team a demanding new environment for developing and testing products. A testament to the standards and success of DAKINE product, the pro team roster reads like a who's-who of action sports.

Today, DAKINE offers a complete range of innovative products, including sport-specific and street-savvy backpacks, bags, travel gear, and accessories as well as a fashionable girl's bag collection. The company remains focused on building durable, innovative products of the best quality for the most demanding action sports athletes. The original quest led by a group of dedicated surfers has taken on a life of its own and has spread throughout all board sports. For 30 years, this passion has given DAKINE its longevity in the action sports industry and has personified its reputation for excellence.

Barrier

Barrier

In late 1980 I went to Ireland on a cycling tour. Cycling in Ireland in November is - fresh, shall we say. Here in Belfast, AML 627H, an AEC Swift / MCW new to London Transport as MB627, but by this time Citybus 2357, passes through into the central security area in Belfast City Centre. The magnificent pile of Belfast City Hall dominates the scene.

At that time everyone entering the centre of Belfast had to be searched, and you were also frisked when you entered each shop within that area. On this occasion I had left my bicycle elsewhere and was strolling around with my camera and two lenses. I entered the city centre, and several shops, without once the relatively large telephoto lens in my cagoule pocket being detected. Makes you wonder how effective the searches were. Or maybe I have an honest face.

Day 155 - Chair-O-Planes (155/365)

Visited the local Kite Festival today and shortlisted two shots for Project 365, this one and a surreal one of a kite in the sky.
I chose this one in the end as I'd tried something that pushed my skills and challenged the camera functionality.
Not having any ND filters with me I had to whack down the ISO to it's lowest setting, stop down the aperture as far as it would go to force the shutter speed down low and rely on the in-body IS to give a nice sharp image where it's meant to be sharp, but blurred movement for the moving parts of the fairground ride.
It worked!

Had a nice day out and lunch today.

So Where's The Dinosaur?

So Where's The Dinosaur?

This was taken up past Karamea on the way to the Moria Gate. If you ever go to NZ you MUST come here. When you walk through the untouched rain forest you really do expect a dinosuar or similar to walk out from behind a big tree, it just has that old & isolated & magical touch to it. Very special place.

To me as a "Mainlander" (South Islander, I'll not apologise to the Northies ;o) this is the most beautiful part of the country. The West coast is just breathtaking, the rugged coast, the dense native forest, the towering Southern Alps, the glaciers.... everything. The only downside are the sand flies that will suck the last litre of blood out of you before you know what has happened.

When it rains here it buckets down, an average of 8m per year.

This was shot in 1997 on a very simple point & shoot 35mm camera, with no control over light, exposure or the like, I wish (as often) I had my DSLR with me then.

Back then I never really paid much attention to the negatives, & unfortunatly they have suffered a bit over the last 20 years or so.

I have done my best to clean them up. Hope you like it as much as I liked being there.

As always your comments are greatly appreciated.

Wikipedia:
The West Coast (Maori: Te Tai Poutini) is one of the administrative regions of New Zealand, located on the west coast of the South Island, and is one of the more remote and most sparsely populated areas of the country. It is made up of three districts: Buller, Grey and Westland. The principal towns are Westport, Greymouth and Hokitika.

The West Coast region reaches from Kahurangi Point in the north to Awarua Point in the south, a distance of 600 km. To the west is the Tasman Sea (which like the Southern Ocean is known to be very rough, with 4 metre swells being common), and to the east are the Southern Alps. Much of the land is rugged, although there are coastal plains around which much of the population resides.

The land is very scenic, with wild coastlines, mountains, and a very high proportion of native bush, much of it native temperate rain forest. The West Coast is the only part of New Zealand where significant tracts of lowland forest remain-elsewhere, for instance on the Canterbury Plains and in the Firth of Thames, they have been almost completely destroyed for settlement and agriculture. Scenic areas include the Haast Pass, Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers, the Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki and the Heaphy Track.

The region has a very high rainfall due to the prevailing northwesterly wind pattern and the location of the Southern Alps – these two elements give rise to heavy orographic precipitation. The flip side to this is the rain shadow effect which is responsible for the relatively arid climate of the Canterbury Plains on the other side of the Southern Alps.

The Catch

The Catch

Here it is, my second ever fish, a nice big trout. I went out on a fishing trip with Adam (Highercontrast) up on the Clarence River in Canterbury. Adam was great and patient enough to take me out to the fishing grounds in the back of nowhere and put up with my total lack of experience at fishing, and certainly helped me out a lot with catching two nice trout.

Unfortunately we didn't manage to get any shots of the first one, as it took a big flip out of my hands just as Adam was getting his camera ready. This guy was a lot more cooperative though, and Adam managed to get a couple of clean shots off before we let him swim off again.

I'm back…I think lol.

So let's start from the beginning…almost a month ago now, I was in the hospital, some of you know why, some of you don't, and if you'd really like to you may message me…but that's really just a small detail in all that's happened. When I got out I really lost my interest or "creative flare" for this, and I haven't picked my camera up much in weeks. Today I did, I didn't take good photos or photos really with much meaning but I shot, and it felt good. It really felt good…and I realized how much I missed it. So I am going to get back into my routine of taking photos almost daily even if nothing will be posted.

Much has happened in the past few weeks, learning a lot about myself and what I want and or need…it's been rough, but somewhat nice. Lots has also happened with others, one thing being that I saved a life…literally, and it was probably the scariest experience of my life. It was terrifying but I'm glad I did it and I'm still dealing with everything that happened along with that.

Things have been weird, things have been rough, things have been different. Some of this I greatly like, some of this I don't. Currently a lot of things are very unknown to me which is a challenging thing but I am getting through it no matter what and I will prevail.

Thank you to all who have said kind things and offered some type of support, it really means a lot.

I will try to get back to posting and commenting and all that much more in the next few days/weeks.

As for this photo, it's nothing special or even post-worthy but I wanted to upload and update you guys a bit.

It incorporates the key aspects of the debate in one volume, examining witness privacy and protection, defendant reputation, the purported "educational" benefits of televising trials, the coverage of trials from an entertainment or voyeurisitic perspective, and whether any proposed benefits of televising trials are negated by potential negative costs to the participants involved or the audience in general.

Voyeur Nation: Media, Privacy, and Peering in Modern Culture

Voyeur Nation: Media, Privacy, and Peering in Modern Culture

From 24-hour-a-day "girl cam" sites on the World Wide Web to trash-talk television shows like "Jerry Springer" and reality television programs like "Cops," we've become a world of voyeurs. We like to watch others as their intimate moments, their private facts, their secrets, and their dirty laundry are revealed.Voyeur Nation traces the evolution and forces driving what the author calls the 'voyeurism value.' Calvert argues that although spectatorship and sensationalism are far from new phenomena, today a confluence of factors-legal, social, political, and technological-pushes voyeurism to the forefront of our image-based world.The First Amendment increasingly is called on to safeguard our right, via new technologies and recording devices, to peer into the innermost details of others' lives without fear of legal repercussion. But Calvert argues that the voyeurism value contradicts the value of discourse in democracy and First Amendment theory, since voyeurism by its very nature involves merely watching without interacting or participating. It privileges watching and viewing media images over participating and interacting in democracy.

Hidden Beauty Creek

Hidden Beauty Creek

Day five of the road trip: Rain, low clouds, snow. Travel from Jasper to Canmore. Hike the 8 waterfall “Stanley Falls” trail. Rain. All the beautiful peaks we had enjoyed driving north from our Mosquito Creek camp to Jasper were now completely hidden by the rain clouds.

Fortunately JJ had a PDF file on his iPad, which showed us a hike north of Sunwapta Pass that looked like a winner, in any weather. So it was here we took a rainy day hike up the eight waterfalls of Beauty Creek to Stanley Falls. The exact number of waterfalls is hard to determine because Beauty Creek appears to be one falls after another and how many there are depends on where you break off “how high” they need to be to count.

Stanley Falls at the top of our hike was a perfect punctuation mark for a waterfalls creek hike. A sharp turn, a big drop, and a deep rounded pool at the bottom made it a classic.

The trailhead would be easy to miss since a “connector” of sorts has been made to connect the parking area along the new section of highway (#93 ~ Icefields Parkway) with the old trailhead along the old section of highway. Thanks to JJ we found it.

It was on this hike that we met one other hiker choosing to “hike in the rain”, Colin from Edmonton. He showed us photos on his camera LCD screen that made both JJ and me, envy him. He had got some great photos of wolves on his visit to the parks.

So Day Five, and you will see no golden larch or aspen; no snow dusted dramatic Rocky Mountain peaks; nothing but waterfalls, so if waterfalls and white water are what you enjoy in photographs, then the photos taken this day should please you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The story: Canada eh? Canadian Rocky Mountain Road Trip October 2011.
A one week road trip and a couple short day hikes in Kootenay; Banff; and Jasper National Parks and Peter Lougheed Provincial Park in Kananaski country.
The success of a road trip (or hike, or backpacking trip), many times is directly proportional to the amount of planning you put into before the trip. Deciding on what you want to see is best done before the trip when you have the time and tools such as maps, guide books, internet, plus the valuable photos and information you can access on flickr- to research the trip properly.
No doubt about it, with a road trip you can have fun by just “winging it” and even with a plan, a good road trip demands that you be willing to alter the plan at any time due to weather and what you find, once the road trip begins.
I have taken a fair number of road trips solo; many with my wife; and some with friends. Solo allows you total freedom to go where you like, stay as long as you like, and see the sights that are highest on you list. Freedom and independence.
The trouble then with a solo trip is you are limited by your own research, planning, and predilections - no consultation, collaboration, or collective pooling of ideas and possibilities. By default, you are restricted by the boundaries of your own knowledge and research.
On this road trip I “joined in” on a road trip my long time friend J.J. had planned. For those of you who may follow some of my photographs and trips on flickr, he was one of three who joined me on a backpacking trip into the Wind River Range of Wyoming, not all that long ago.
J.J. approached the trip to the Canadian Rockies as a “photography” trip primarily and as a reconnaissance trip for future trips he might want to take, especially with his wife, who is also an accomplished photographer. He had never been there.
I took this as an opportunity to “see once again” some of the sights of Jasper and Banff, where I had traveled with my wife almost 40 years ago; and travel to some places I had never been before; take a hike or two; and enjoy the mountain landscapes of British Columbia and Alberta, Canada.
Looking back on this road trip already, I benefited greatly by J.J.’s research and many of the sites he had selected as being “high value” places, from a photographer’s viewpoint (or should I say “viewfinder”). I wouldn’t have seen my favorite places on this trip without J.J.’s diligent “in advance” research.
In addition to seeing many places I wouldn’t have selected, and therefore would have missed if I had done this trip solo, I got to see an iPad (J.J.’s) in operation first hand, and of course came away from the trip with the feeling that one day I would NEED one.
We took J.J.’s Subaru Forester on this trip, the same one the two of us had survived a nasty hood denting (yep a few of the dents are still there) hail storm near Banks, Idaho in 2006 - - one of our first of many road trips together. J.J. brought along two “books on CD” to make the less scenic portions of our drive a bit more interesting. Again, audio books were a first time experience for me and they really do go well with a road trip.
The two audio books that J.J. brought along were both extremely interesting and enjoyable for me to listen to (th
Grand View Park at Dusk
Grand View Park at Dusk
I seem to have had bad luck lately in being where I want to be when the weather is nice. I came home from work today to an amazingly clear night in San Francisco, with great purple/blue skies. I had my camera with me today so I drove up to Grand View Park, just up the hill from my apartment to snap some shots.
The 'best' light seemed to have already past, but San Francisco was still looking good as the sky got darker and the city lights came on.
This is one of my favorite spots for panoramic shots so I decided to finally do one after dark for a change. The original was produced from 11 separate images and stitched in Photoshop (which didn't hide the seems very well). It came out to roughly 10,000x2800 so this is scaled down considerably.
I suggest you take a look at the full size just to take in an incredibly clear night in SF (even if the photo isn't the sharpest).
The sun was still comparatively bright behind the horizon which made finding the right exposure tough, and in the end I had to lighten it in post - oh well. Ya learn something new every time right?
Nikon D60 Camera Lenses
nikon d60 camera lenses
Father and son
Father and son
Here we have the Nikon D60, from 2008, and the Nikon F60, from 1998 (known as the N60 in the colonies).
A beginner camera from the digital age, and a beginner camera from the film era.
What do they have in common? Well, they were both targeted at people moving from point and shoot to a serious camera. Neither really needed an instruction book - what you see when you turn it on is pretty much all that it does.
Lens compatibility - they both have their oddities here. Notice that neither lens gives full compatibility with either camera? The D60 will only autofocus with AF and AF-S lenses, the F60 only with AF or AF-D. I was going to say that the D60 can autofocus with G lenses, but then there are exceptions - such as the 28-80 mm f/3.3-5.6G (no aperture ring, and no internal motor!). So both are somewhat knobbled, but you can still buy a decent range of lenses for each from the current Nikon lens range.
Did you know that the Nikon F60 body was used as the basis for the Fuji S1 Pro?
The Nikon D60 is lovely to use, and has a shutter that is quiet as a mouse. The F60, however, sounds like a combination of a grandfather clock and a blender (really grating). But then why did they add built-in winders to cameras that could only manage 36 exposures before being reloaded?
The F60 here is Champagne coloured - a special edition apparently, but only cost me ?30 on ebay.
The F60 is big, innit?
(2) Essays on At Least the Dark Don't Hide It - That time is good and gone
(2) Essays on At Least the Dark Don't Hide It - That time is good and gone
See, ma family was there or there about an aw but hell, they were going through most of the c.ap jist like me so it wisnae fair to ladle me melancholy soup into their cold bowls. Plus, as close as we are, we’re no ones for indulging any self-pitying, whimsical nonsense like depression, unfettered grief or total f.cking personality meltdowns. Gies a good party and a Pogues song, gies a calming Sunday dinner, gies a warm day and an easy hillside and we’re as guid as it gets, just don’t gies any of your signs of weakness. We’re no that type of family. Whit we are though is blood tight and more, we're growing well together after it all.
I mean, even when it wasn't them around it wisnae all bad, wisnae much good like, but certainly no aw bad. Me and wee Hazel, we were close at that time an aw. Like two satellites skiting on a crappy orbit around the planet navel, both looking inwards, both looking down. We spun each other around, kept each other goin’ when aw the functions of sanity were grinding to a sloppy halt. We got each other. We got each others misery, we shared the same smaw pleasures and, well, f.ck it, we both gave guid cuddles when aw else failed. So there wis good around me, there was love and some understanding and, in retrospect, the binding of a relationship that is as stodgily steady in a gold gilded kinda way as they come. If ye ever want to know if its worth it to stick by someone, let me tell ye, it is as worth it as anything ye’ll ever do. Life needs life, life needs a bit ae love and love does nae come any better than when its been hard forged against a backdrop of some heavy going social realism. Disney as produced by Ken Loach, that's me and Hazel so it is.
There wis good going on in thay shots an aw. Aw that literal clowning around, that was good for the soul, know whit a mean? It was as far from anything a knew as ye could get. A mean, take it for granted if ye want but look at them if ye want. Who’s that? Why’s that happening? That there clown is jist a guy, a 9-5, everyman kinda man. I’m nobody special with nothing special to say. But a hud that in me and a used that there camera to turn in on maself. And turn it on maself a did, life a f.cking dredger so it wis, scouring right down in ma bony wee chest and houking up drips and drabs of emotion, memory, confusion and, well, f.cking life that a had spotting around inside me. A tell ye what, it cleared a lot up, wis like a map of me at times. All of a sudden a could figure oot how I was and why I was and why I did what I did when I did and, f.ck it, everything like. Every flaw, every bloody mistake, missed chance and never wis. I saw it aw perfectly clear and while a cannae claim to huv dealt with each blotch on the character and a cannae claim to huv learnt every lesson good and well but when I muck up, at least a know why.
There is guid in the travel shots too. Ye know whit they are when a see them, a big f.cking wave that’s whit. A big wave of temperature and smell, of poverty and riches, of places strange and surreal, of loneliness and fear, of terror and exhilaration. Every moment captured like it wis, like it wis then and now like it is in ma head right f.cking now. Wonderful so it is, but overwhelming as well. A did aw that, a saw aw that and a tell ye whit, a did it alone, aw f.cking alone. That wis the dream a parked on the shelf, that wis the life a nearly lost and woah boy man a tell ye, if you have one, if ye’ve got a goal that niggles and twists against common sense, don’t let it go. F.cking grab the wee b.gger and live it right through and right out of ye because there is no feeling like that moment when aw the tension of failing yerself, of not being the one thing ye wanted to be, aw that angst and torment, aw that feeling sinks out of you. Pure oxygen man, that’s whit a wis breathing. Day One - Amsterdam Airport after the worst goodbye ever. Day whatever, lost in the Caucasus mountains. Day sometime – climbing tombs in the Syrian desert. Day of days – getting stuck in a toilet in Penn Station when I wis supposed to be meeting Hazel under the Manhattan skyline. Life, aw of it, and aw of it mine. A could greet jist remembering it and a kid ye not. A could f.cking greet with the knowing that those feelings are mine and not a soul elses. And a could greet knowing its recorded in ma head and in those shots for time memorial and more. F.cking magic.
So that is why there his been aw the hand wringing about my lack of camera action and that is why I’ll wring some more about the meaning and quality of these shots and that’s why a will wring some more words out till I figure out what they are. And am getting there, a am getting close and ye know whit, its good. The shots are playful, a wis playing there that night, up there, these shots. A wis running through fields, a wis dodging bats and snatching at the moon. A wis light as f.ck and ready to go. Time and space and light were mine and a wis playing and a only
Local's Tavern
Local's Tavern
OK, this unassuming picture needs the full story.
Nack, Zoe and I are hurriedly leaving the tavern in the background. We had entered to get a quick drink and a toilet break. Zoe gave an order for hot chocolates and a coffee to the barman and paid up front. Five minutes later the barman came to our table and asked for our order. Zoe explained she'd already ordered and paid for 3 drinks. The barman accepted this, then asked us what we'd like to drink. We explained that the three drinks were for all three of us. He shook our hands and went back to the bar. He repeated this exercise of coming over to ask us for our orders twice. It was only on the third visit that I noticed his flies undone and his boxers hanging out. On the one hand we were looking for the hidden cameras, but on the other we were genuinely worried we might not get out of the place alive. He eventually delivered a coffee to Zoe, after an annoyed looking woman appeared from the kitchen to berate him. It arrived with most of the coffee in the saucer and the teaspoon sticking out of the cup. A few minutes later he started staggering towards us with a hot chocolate in each hand. You've never seen me and Nack move so fast; we didn't want to get covered in hot chocolate so made a grab for the cups as soon as we could.
We drank very fast and left even faster, and it was only when the bikes were unlocked that we dared taking this photogrpah.
This tavern is probably a very nice locals pub.
Snowflake Set-up
Snowflake Set-up
This is my set-up for my snowflake image. I developed a special technique to enable me to take the image. The lens is a CPC 28MM f2.8. Attached to the filter threads is a Nikon BR-2 reversing ring. Attached to the BR-2 are two 36mm extension tubes in the Nikon Pre-AI mount, first a PRO and second a Vivitar AT-3. Behind the tube is a Fotodiox Nikon mount to Canon mount adapter ring and mounted to my Canon Digital Rebel XT body. Attached to the mount of the CPC lens is a Nikon PK-3 tube and attached to this is a Nikon F K3 ring. These tubes provide the necessary spacing to allow me to brace this assembly flush against the inside layer of glass. Any minor distance adjusting is obtained by turning the focus ring on the lens. The K3 ring is a manual extension ring and has no protruding parts. This ring set threads together and this ring has a felt-like material on the end of the threads, allowing me to brace this assembly flush against the glass and move it without scratching the glass. This allows me to image hand held and braced against the window, using Av mode with available light ambient light. I believe the macro magnification of this set-up to be approximately 5:1.
Imaged with a Sony DSC-H5B 7mp point and shoot digital camera.
Wide Angle: National Geographic Greatest Places (National Geographic Collectors Series)
In 250 glorious photographs Wide Angle: National Geographic Greatest Places documents the beauty and depth of every part of the world. Delving deeply into a picture archive that houses over ten million images, with many photographs being published for the first time, this new book-the third and final in the "greatest photographs" series-presents the world's amazingly diverse places with epic grandeur, unparalleled intimacy, romantic beauty, and gritty realism. The photographs are landscapes, cityscapes, famous landmarks, and unfamiliar spots that reveal special qualities of geography or culture one might otherwise never see.
Spanning more than eleven decades, the images in Wide Angle are divided into twelve chapters, each depicting a unique geography—including East and Southeast Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Polar Regions. Each chapter is introduced by award-winning cultural writer and critic Ferdinand Protzman, whose essays accent the stunning photographs by renowned National Geographic photographers. Both essays and photographs carefully examine a region's special qualities, creating unique character and its own special and unforgettable sense of place. In Wide Angle, National Geographic photographers have recorded the world's places close up, in sweeping breadth, in depth, and over time.
using nothing more than a door spy from a hardware store, plastic canister lid from a 35mm roll of film, and an elastic hair tie I've finally managed to make a home made wide angle attachment.
All I did was cut a round hole in the lid to fit the spy thru and attach with the elastic band.
Note: the velcro on the front of the camera is for home made lens gels, but it also provides something for the plastic lid to grip to so it doesn't move around on a smooth surface too much.
