Diving and Subaquatic Medicine

I will own all of my own gear, including a black and silver chrome diving mask, thick but flexible diving fins, a professional snorkel, black wet suit, a diving watch, and a chrome silver diving knife in a sturdy sheath. I will have a nice bag with which to case all of my equipment.

I often have said that quitting smoking was a gateway dream. Case in point, I had to quit smoking in order to receive my certification as a Scuba Diver. You actually can be a smoke, but you can’t smoke for a period before and after you dive or else you could really mess yourself up… I used it as a reason to just say I couldn’t smoke at all.

People have asked me what it’s like breathing underwater and it’s really hard to describe. When you’re in the dive pool it’s one thing. The water is clear, and worst case scenario you are only 30 feet to the surface. You can make that if you freak out or lose air, etc. When you’re 60 meters below however with very low visibility, it’s a different story.

I have always been fascinated with the ocean and the sea life. I used to want to be an oceanographer because I loved Sharks and studied them religiously. I have a LOT of respect for that animal. It’s a thrill and a rush to dive… maybe someday I will go underwater cave diving or through a ship wreck. But for now I’ll stick with the deep lakes in Texas and the occasional costal dive.

The day of my first non-tank dive was the same day that I would have outlived my sister. Halloween 2009. I was nervous for a lot of reasons, mostly because I was afraid synchronicities would catch up to me and irony would take over. I felt like I shouldn’t be tempting so much fate at once. I highly suggest this form of recreation. It’s expensive, but well worth the adventures!

Note: I added the shark into the shot as a reminder of my love and total respect for the ocean and the animals contained within! I absolutely love, fear and respect these animals!
