buttery cookies.
The dough is fairly easy to make, but it was a pain to get these cookies out of the cookie press. (was my dough too soft so too sticky?!) I really like how they look, but each time I made them, I wanted it to be the last time.

Housewarming Platter
House warming platter. I'm not so happy about the house colours tying into the rest of the cookies but their house is white with a red door. After seeing Brenda's (Brenda's Cakes - Ohio) beautiful airbrushing on some of her cookies, I decided to try some of the Duff Airbrush spray (from a can) on the sunflowers and some of the minis and small flowers. Loved the effect on the sunflowers but not so much on the other cookies. Also decided to try some PME Luster Spray on the Keys. Love the Gold finish it gave -- so smooth and a lot nicer than when I've used Luster dust mixed with vodka or Lemon extract on Larger surfaces!
Note to self... 'Congratulations' is a Long word no matter how small you try to print it!! lol
Housewarming Cookie Platter
Housewarming Cookie Platter. The Fleur De Lis was a special request because the lady that ordered the platter is from New Orleans and a Saints Fan!
These cookies were a headache from start to finish, so I was very happy when I got finished with these!! :-(

Cookie Overload
I made the Vegan with a Vengeance gigantoid peanut butter cookies with quinoa flakes because I couldn't find "clean" oatmeal. At first I thought they were going to be too bitter, but a good night's rest cleared that out. There are also some of the sparkled ginger cookies in the cookie pile. I never share ginger cookies. They're probably my favorite cookie ever.

I was at the grocery store again today, catering to my latest craving.
I guess I should be thankful that I no longer suffer uncontrollable
cravings for sugar and ice cream, although the damage is already done
... no, these days I crave huge quantities of MEAT! This is odd,
because I spent many years as a vegetarian and never learned to cook
meat. Basically I fry everything. But a friend taught me how to
roast pork loin, so that's what's for dindin tomorrow. Hope it turns
out as good ...

When I was pregnant with R, I spent a lot of time up in bed, gagging my way through PBS cooking shows. I love those kinds of shows, so even though the pregnancy nausea made them a little hard to watch, I persevered. Not having cable will make you do things like that. You don't want to know what else not having cable makes you do (hint: it involves creative antenna positioning).
Around St. Patrick's day, there was show after show about Ireland and, of course, potatoes. I learned a lot about potatoes, that week, and have been a potatoholic ever since.
Did you know that you can yell "bullshit!" if anyone ever tells you that the majority of a potato's nutritious properties are in its skin? It turns out that the nutritional value of a peeled potato is barely different than that of a potato with the peel. Please yell "bullshit!" at your own risk, though.
And in terms of nutrition, potatoes are pretty freakin amazing. They have a ton of Vitamin C & B6, and quite a lot of iron & folate, a little calcium - along with a little bit of a bunch of other things like zinc & magnesium & phosphorous.
So my pic for yesterday is of a group of potatoes at the Mel Veggie Spa. I'm a little obsessive about cleaning veggies, so I soak them in a dish of soapy-ish water before I scrub them. I made mashed potatoes yesterday, and they rocked.

taking a picture of something on tv is tricky. as you can see, the tv looks like crap. anyways, i was waiting for my lunch to finish cooking today and was flipping the channels and i stumbled on to some classic mr. rogers on pbs. this episode was all about opera, and the whole episode was an actual opera written for the show. it was pretty lame (and awesome?). if nothing else, it enteratined me for 5 minutes.

These are keepers!
There is something about cold and snowy weather that makes me want to bake. I'm not a particularly good baker, I am not much of a recipe follower, so I have been trying to improve in that arena. My method is that I take recipes that sound close to what I want, and I tweak them a little, like with these cookies. A simple recipe for oatmeal cookies yielded these: toasted pecan oatmeal cookies with raisinets. WAY yummy.
EDIT:
The theme for week 16 in the "I love this!" pool is favorite winter activities... Turns out, most of my fave winter activities are year-round kinds of things, so I really had to think hard. The thing I kept coming up with was about food-- I like "winter" cooking, like making big pots of soup and chili, pot roast (even though I'm trying to give up red meat, I always feel I NEED pot roast come February), and trying to do some baking. These cookies (and incidentally, my roast recipe) I have made a few times, and I think I've refined them to the point where I wouldn't choose a restaurant version over these.
So, picture DONE for the pool, sorry that I'm not saying anything new or fresh....
Oatmeal-Raisin Cookies
From ED&BV - Although these cookies look and smell just like ordinary oatmeal-raisin cookies, their taste is anything but ordinary - in fact, my dad said that these cookies were "the best thing [I've] made so far, in terms of dessert - your mom and I each had two [of the cookies]!" I guess it truly is the case that sometimes, the simple things (or recipes, in this case) in life are the best.

Have faith in your noodle
On a chilly day of early Spring 2004, we visited the Sakyamuni Pagoda at Fogong Temple in northern China, in a town called Yingxian (??, province of Shanxi). The pagoda, constructed exclusively by wooden parts and material, is the oldest standing wooden tower on Earth. It was built in AD1056, survived over ten major earthquakes, and countless numbers of battles.
Outside the temple, there is a food vendor. The setup is simple: a large plank raised to 1.5 feet above ground and 2 benches. Choice of food is few: noodle made from potato, sided with green onions and egg, with or without hot chilly source. Our taxi driver of the day, Zhao, said potato noodle is a local delicacy, and that we should try. I observed how the noodle was made, there are no cooking apparatus; noodle is served cold and prepared by bare hands.
We looked around, no signs of other restaurants or food vendors. We rush started our day early without breakfast, by then we were exhausted, cold, and hungry. So we uttered to each other: “have faith”, took a deep breath, and swallowed down a large bowl of cold potato noodle. It actually taste quite delicious, and we didn’t have any stomach problem that day.
Cost: 2 Chinese Yuan (~ USD 0.25)
More pictures of the 900-year old Pagoda and travelogue of the trip (in Chinese).

One of my favorite childhood memories of Christmastime was the array of cookies and goodies my mom made.
She stopped for a few years, but has come through strong for the last two!
This tin is 4 layers deep and will hopefully last us a few days after New Years.
I hope your holiday traditions are alive and well.
Happy Holidays

- Ok guys, there is a bit of story behind this shot. It wasn't really that easy when I tried to take this 3 bracketed long exposure shot in Mori Tower building in Roppongi because I wasn't allowed to use my handy tripod *sigh. You can imagine all the efforts and of course my strange position that I tried to keep my camera as steady as I could using whatever I could find…LOL. I couldn't even look through my lens to see how it looked like…again LOL. The worst thing was trying to fight all those miserables window's light reflection. This wasn't really the shot that I expect since I wanted to get broader view, nevertheless I couldn't use my handy tripod. So I hope you guys enjoy this shot! :-)))
