Travelodge and Arcadia team up for new Edinburgh hotel Hotel chain Travelodge has revealed it is to open a new hotel in Edinburgh. The new addition is part of a joint venture with retailer Arcadia Group and will be located just above the Topshop store on Princes Street, a famous shopping precinct. Another new Travelodge is currently under construction on Queen Street. Both are expected to open in summer 2012. The budget hotel chain has said it agreed a 35 year lease with Arcadia Group Ltd., which represents a ?10million investment. Travelodge chief executive Guy Parsons has publicly noted that growth in Edinburgh is a major priority for the company. He also commented that "The demand for low cost, good quality accommodation in Edinburgh is a growing market and we are still looking to further invest in Scotland's capital." Menzies goes into administration Menzies Hotels has gone into administration after a decision by Lloyds to restructure ?230m of debt in the chain, Estates Gazette this morning reported. It is another part of Robert Tchenguiz’s former property empire to have collapsed, says The Times. Holding company Piccadilly Hotels was placed in KPMG’s hands last week and the 16 Menzies properties immediately sold to a management buyout team in a pre-pack deal. Six budget hotels leased by Travelodge will be sold “in due course”. Cottonwood Creek geology 0 PHOTOGRAPH PARTICULARS 0 Nothing like getting off a well traveled paved road (Utah highway 89) and slowing down, rolling down the windows, and proceeding at a slow comfortable pace along 50 miles of dirt road. Drive as slow as you like, stop where you want, enjoy the sights, the fragrance of sage, and “no schedule”. The “Cottonwood Canyon Road” is a gem. Last year when I drove it, floods had washed rocks and debris onto the road from side canyons, making it messy driving in places, requiring four wheel drive. On this drive, it was passenger car smooth, with no tricky spots at all. 0 ACTIVITIES DAY TEN OF TWELVE 0 If there was one day to “live again” on this road trip then day TEN was it. It was outstanding from start to finish. The weather was A1 perfect. We had a little dirt road travel with the windows of the Jeep rolled down and a lot of good photo ops at the many different places we traveled. Oh yes, a great meal at the Escalante Outfitters to end the day properly. We left Page, Arizona before dawn. We watched the sun come up over Navajo Mountain and Lake Powell. Then on to “The Toadstools” off highway 89 for a short hike and some great early morning light on those formations. We then backtracked 1.6 miles fto the Cottonwood road (a road I had driven recently in my pickup truck, only from north to south), and enjoyed a clear warm blue sky day drive up to Butler (Grosvenor) arch. From Butler arch, we went on to Kodachrome Basin, where we took a short three mile loop hike. I loved the campground at Kodachrome and have promised my wife that we will camp there together and take some of the longer hikes available in that pretty little state park (Oh yes, the campground has HOT showers). from Kodachrome Basin state park, we drove up to Bryce National Park. LOTS of snow, but beautiful on a sunny day (few other people). We ate at the Subway just outside Ruby Inn - then drove on to Rainbow Point, which at 9,100 feet, had plenty of snow (about three feet worth along the lookout path). Then we worked our way back out Bryce, stopping to photograph at each and every lookout point that had been plowed, enjoying Bryce as the sun dropped down low and the light changed by the minute. After Bryce we backtracked again and drove on to Escalante, Utah (one of my often visited and favorite “base camps”), where we had reserved rooms by phone at the rustic but friendly: Circle “D” motel (ask for Robert and tell him Oldmantravels with the old red Toyota pickup truck sent you). After checking in at the Circle “D”, we headed over to the Escalante Outfitters ( hiking supply, books, free internet use, excellent food, really friendly people cafe) - - for a big dinner a cold beer, pizza, and a “toast” to the best road trip day we had enjoyed thus far. We had LOTS of dirt road destinations in mind for day 11 of the road trip (the next day) BUT we were in for quite a surprise the next morning at Escalante. So like on all good road trips, you stay flexible, make the best of what comes your way, and go for it and that is exactly what we did. 0 3,875 MILE/12 DAY ~ 4 CORNERS ROAD TRIP OVERVIEW 0 At the start of year 2011, I made tentative plans to take a two week solo “road trip” through the Four Corners area (The Colorado Plateau), during the last half of March. Then, if my wife could get the time needed off from her part time job, I also planned a “road trip” vacation to the Southwest, in April with her. When I put the plan together for the March trip, I decided to see if an old friend of mine, Ed (Flickr’s: OldWrangler), might be interested in joining me. I volunteered to take my old four wheel drive pickup truck and split the gasoline expense with him. We would each get an inexpensive motel room on the road to serve as “base camps” to hike, photograph, and explore back roads in the Four Corners area. Not only did Ed accept but he also proposed that we take his brand new 4-door Jeep Wrangler instead of my old pickup truck. That didn’t take any thinking on my part. I LOVE Jeeps and Ed and I have always got along well (decades ago, I worked for him and we had taken a fun road trip together back in 2008, along with my friend John and my youngest son). The deal was sealed. We left my house in Central Washington early Monday morning on the 14th of March. We returned 12 days and 3,875 miles later on Friday evening March 25th. We spent a lot of time drinking Diet Pepsi from the ice chest and keeping the hits of the 60s (and occasionally the 70s), cranked up high on the Jeep’s Sirius satellite radio sound system. Sing along music! “Road trip” tunes. Weather often dictated changes to our proposed route and activities. We stayed flexible, and in the end we visited the large majority of places we had hoped to see, when the road trip began. We had sun and clear skies, snow, dust storms, and high winds at times. Ed’s Jeep had an outside temperature display. We drove in everything from18 degree weather to temperatures in the 7 You from around here?. 0 PHOTOGRAPH PARTICULARS 0 Open range cattle along the Cockscomb Ridge: wiley, agile, bold, and curious. Fiuggi is a comune (municipality) in the province of Frosinone in the region of Lazio in central Italy. Fiuggi, originally called Anticoli di Campagna, gained fame as early as the 14th century, when Pope Boniface VIII claimed his kidney stones had been healed by the mineral waters from the nearby Fiuggi spring. Two centuries later Michelangelo also extolled the virtues of the water that cured him of what he called "the only kind of stone I couldn't love." Soon Acqua di Fiuggi was being sent in bottles to all of Europe's royalty. Not until the turn of the 20th Century did it become fashionable to make pilgrimages to spa towns, and it was around this time that the King of Italy renamed Anticoli in honor of its most celebrated attraction. From the 16th to the 19th century, Fiuggi and many nearby hill towns were part of the Papal States. Minimall downstairs with restaurants, galleries, wine shops, and 24-hour delis/convenience stores. Miracle in Carvoeiro Everyone has a past. In the case of Rui Fernandes it is a closed book and he is trying to write a new one. Carvoeiro is the kind of Portuguese fishing village where fishing no longer takes place. It has everything essential to village life; an accident-prone guesthouse owner, eighty-five restaurants, testosterone-fuelled police, illegal Brazilians, an ex-beauty queen who wants to open a sex shop. It also has a dusting of drugs, a crippled old lady and a young girl who has been touched by God. Against a backdrop of a pilgrimage over which the Church has lost control, the tapestry of this story interweaves different threads; sunshine and sangria, love and the oldest profession, illegal drugs and murder. Rising above this is the unanswered question: has there been a miracle? Saudi Terrorism On The Soul of the Shias of Bahrain 177,237 items / 1,389,972 views I begin my new set at Flickr.com titled Mumbai's March of a Million - Pro Bahrain Protest that was held at Azad Maidan this afternoon at 3.30pm to show our solidarity with the oppressed people of Baharain and Yemen. This was a momentous gathering a memorable moment as the scholars and religious heads of both the Shia and the Sunni sects came together as Muslims condemning the act of Terrorism on Humanity by Saudi Arabia and other Arab troops in Bahrain.,.this was highly commendable and spoke volumes of the secular spirit of Amchi Mumbai and its Muslim community. The crowds were predominantly Shia men women and children holding banners flags and placards. Every member of the respective school of though came on the dais including Mr Ahuja a Sikh gentleman ,Maulana Darybadi of the Ulema Council was vocal and stressed the pain the Muslim community feels collectively against the oppression of the people of Bahrain and Yemen. Maulana Hasnain Karari too was evocative and stressed the need of the international community raising its voice against the matrix of evil Saudi Arabia America and Israel. There were slogans and despite the heat and the discomfort of the burning sun the crowds listened avidly. However one man held the crowds in rapt attention he had the crowds eating out of his hands a young versatile dynamic Maulana from Pune Mr Noor Ali Abidi , he spoke in chaste Marathi the poetic language of peace of the proud people of Maharashtra , he was cogent to the point and his words laced with satire pleased the Urdu speaking crowds..And for once I thought I will invite this Maulana to recite a Majilis in Marathi for my Marathi Facebook friends Aaditya Thackeray and Purvesh Sarnaik and their friends. There were other Maulanas too both Shia and Sunni who each came and added to the task at hand. Than came the Bahraini students studying in India they were overwhelmed wit the support for their people of Bahrain. Mr Abbas Kazmi the Shia poster boy of Mumbai was there too gracing the occasion with his wit and charming personality. I shall keep text minimum I shot a 9 GB card and this set is dedicated to the Bahraini students and the proud valiant people of Bahrain. Mr Safdar Karmali Mr Javed Shroff other Shia luminaries were there too this was a over 15000 crowd.. Hotel Del Coronado- San Diego, CA San Diego sightseeing on the Monday after Jill & Don's wedding. From the brochure... Rising from water's edge on the quaint island of Coronado in San Diego , the Hotel del Coronado is considered one of America 's most beautiful beach resorts. A classic historic hotel, The Del was built in 1888 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977. Today, The Del offers travelers contemporary luxury in an enchanting Victorian atmosphere. Add to this, the resort's beachfront location, and it's no wonder USA Today calls The Del "one of the top ten resorts in the world." The Del offers a quintessential Southern California resort experience. For those seeking a romantic retreat, the resort's magical architecture and island setting are perfect. In fact, the Travel Channel rated The Del the number one wedding destination in America . The Del is also a wonderful family vacation destination, featuring abundant recreation, as well as, seasonal teen and children's programs. And, for getting down to business, meeting and incentive planners can work with over 65,000 feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and exhibition space. HOTELS AT LUTON AIRPORT : LUTON AIRPORT
Hotels At Luton Airport : Hotel Central Heidelberg : Best Hotel In Cozumel. Hotels At Luton Airport
Prince GAMLZ Constructors number P50/46 was built as a Percival P.50 Prince 3E (short nose version) at Luton, and was the third from last civil Prince to be built. The last of an order for 5 placed by Shell Refining and Marketing Ltd (G-AMKK & G-AMLW to 'LZ). Although registered G-AMLZ on 23.11.51, the first Certificate of Airworthiness was not issued until 14th November 1952, with delivery the same month. At this time Douglas Bader was one of Shell's corporate pilots, so it is almost certain that he flew G-AMLZ during the year and half of Shell's ownership. In July 1954 it was sold to Winston F. Martin (of the Martin family, as in Martin Baker Ltd) and based at Tollerton and Leicester East. After just under two years the aircraft was sold again in May 1956. Also during 1956 the aircraft's engines were modified, the aircraft becoming a Prince 4E and at some stage the aircraft was allocated the registration VR-TBN in Tanganyika, East Africa - but was never taken up. (VR-TBN was actually used on another Prince 3E, C/no P.48 ex G-AMPR of Standard Motors, cancelled from the UK register 11.55), so it is possible that the allocation of the serial to P.46 G-AMLZ was a bureaucratic mix-up in the paper work. In May 1956 G-AMLZ was sold and purchased by Stewart, Smith & Co. Ltd. (alternatively Stewart Smith & Co Ltd) and initially based at Blackbushe, later moving to Heathrow. In December 1958 the engines were uprated again, the aircraft becoming a Prince 6E in the process. Engineering maintenance was contracted to British Eagle and undertaken initially at Heathrow and later at Liverpool in No.1 hangar. Traced visits to Liverpool during this period include: 2nd March 1957 from & to Blackbushe 2nd March 1964 from Heathrow, at Liverpool until 26th March '64 27th March 1965 from & to Heathrow 11th April 1967 from Heathrow for a C of A Check, returned to Heathrow 1st August 1967 24th May 1968 again from & to Heathrow and a visit into Hawarden for Chester Races 8th May 1962. After 12 years with Stewart, Smith & Co, she was sold in September 1968 to Timothy M. Clutterbuck and based at Leavesden. His use of the aircraft ended March 1971 and it was flown to Coventry, presumably awaiting sale. The C of A expired 18.6.71 and the registration subsequently cancelled by the CAA 18.1.73. With many second-hand, modern twins available, the future looked bleak for a dated twenty year old radial old lady, at a time before 'heritage' types could earn their keep on the air show circuit. However, G-AMLZ was purchased by Coventry based John F. Coggins who operated a number of aviation concerns. The initial plan was to return 'LZ to the air as part of his City Airways pleasure flying operation, joining his Percival Prentice. G-AMLZ was restored to the Register on 23.10.73. However this plan never came to fruition, so G-AMLZ became an external exhibit with the Aircraft Radio Museum - another John Coggins Coventry operation. As an aside to this tale, MSAE members may recall the large box radio (from Proctor G-AIAA) that did sterling service in the Hangar 50 clubroom in the days before transistor sets - this also became an exhibit with the Radio Museum. On 9.10.84 the registration was cancelled by the CAA as 'permanently withdrawn from use'. The aircraft sat at Coventry throughout the '80s. After over 20 years of standing out in the open at Coventry, during 1994 the aircraft was purchased by the Coventry based Air Atlantique Group and surveyed with an eye to restoration to airworthy condition. Perhaps not too suprisingly the rebuild was not proceeded with, and with the help of 29(F) Sqdn ATC, she was dismantled early in 1995 to save space. In February 1997 fortunes apparently changed as 'LZ was transported to Caernarfon Airfield and re-assembled soon after for display with Caernarfon Air World Museum. A 1998 repaint replaced the Stewart, Smith & Co dark blue and white scheme with a simplified scheme in a lighter shade of blue. However, for the next 10 years she was effectively abandoned in a compound beside the Museum, as the Prince did not fit any of the themes inside. Salt laden seaside air and winter Irish Sea storms began to take their toll. The wheels were filled with concrete in an attempt to prevent further storm damage. Although offered for sale, the price was high considering the deteriorating condition she was in. In September 2007, with the compound she was in designated for new hangars, a process of cutting her up for a move indoors began. Horrified that the last remaining civil Prince was being cut-up (as against dismantled), in an eleventh hour rescue the Jetstream Club stepped in and dismantled her properly and transported her by road for indoor storage with the RAF Millom Museum in Cumbria on 5th October 2007. After initial work at Millom, G-AMLZ was on the move again a year later, being transported to Liverpool by road on 23rd November 2008 and delivered onto the former airport apron behind the Crow Hotel Room Here is my room at the Holiday Inn Express at Luton Airport. It was small, but clean and new. The beds were rather crappy - very springy and rather hard. It was a short walk to the airport terminal, perfect for my 6:00am check-in. A small Marks & Spencer just opened in the terminal, so I was able to pick up all sorts of yummy delicious foods for dinner. The internet was very expensive, but overall I was pleased with the room. Central House Hotel - Chesterton, Indiana Central House Hotel, Franklin Street, C. E. Carlson, Proprietor Chesterton, Indiana Date: Circa 1907-1910 Source Type: Postcard Publisher, Printer, Photographer: P. L. Huckins Postmark: February 21, 19??, Chesterton, Indiana Collection: Steven R. Shook Remark: The Central House Hotel was originally located in "City West," a lost town site that was along Lake Michigan and located southwest of the present day pavilion at the Indiana Dunes State Park. The hotel was built in 1836 to accommodate stage passengers, land speculators, and City West lot buyers. The structure was moved from City West to Chesterton on skids pulled by oxen teams over snow by David Hopkins in 1850. Hopkins had the hotel placed at the southwest corner of the intersection of Second Street and Broadway. In 1854, all of the remaining structures in City West were destroyed by a fire that was caused by an electrical storm. Hopkins leased the hotel property to others, who ran a business called the Central House Hotel. At 2:00 am on Tuesday, April 7, 1908, the Central House Hotel was destroyed by a fire that originated on the second floor. The Johnson Brothers store, adjacent to the hotel, suffered $5,000 in damages, while Bartel's Hardware also suffered significant damage from the fire. At that time of the structure's demise, Gust Lawson was the owner of the hotel. The Central House Hotel served as Chesterton's primary hotel for 54 years, and was the last remaining vestige of City West. The Methodist Episcopal Church, which incidentally was built by David Hopkins, can be seen behind the hotel. The Central House Hotel structure also operated at different times as Eschenbach's Hotel and Restaurant and the drug store and dental office for Arthur E. Nickel. QUALITY INN SUITES SEATTLE CENTER - HOTEL VALDIOLA PORTO CERVO. Quality Inn Suites Seattle Center
Seattle Center Dusk + Mt. Rainier This is the Seattle Center from Kerry Park on Queen Ann Hill....the mountain is Mt. Rainier. I have been training to climb it since January and hope to reach the summit in August. Guess what? I will be taking my camera... BTW Mount Rainier is an active stratovolcano (also known as a composite volcano) in Pierce County, Washington, located 54 miles (87 km) southeast of Seattle, Washington, in the United States. It is the highest peak in the Cascade Range and Cascade Volcanic Arc at 14,411 feet (4,392 m). The mountain and the surrounding area are protected within Mount Rainier National Park. With 26 major glaciers, Mount Rainier is the most heavily glaciated peak in the lower 48 states with 35 square miles (91 km?) of permanent snowfields and glaciers. The summit is topped by two volcanic craters, each over 1,000 feet (300 m) in diameter with the larger east crater overlapping the west crater. Geothermal heat from the volcano keeps areas of both crater rims free of snow and ice, and has formed an extensive network of glacier caves within the ice-filled craters. A small crater lake, the highest in North America, occupies the lowest portion of the west crater below more than 160 feet (50 m) of ice and is accessible only via the caves. Mount Rainier has a topographic prominence of 13,210 feet (4,026 m), greater than that of K2. It is a prominent feature of the southern landscape in most of the Seattle metropolitan area. On clear days, it can also be seen from as far away as Portland, Oregon, and Victoria, British Columbia. Because of its scenic dominance, Seattle-Tacoma-area residents sometimes refer to it simply as "the Mountain." Seattle Center. Seattle Center. EMP. Monorail. The EMP Museum (formerly known as Experience Music Project and Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame or EMP|SFM) is a museum dedicated to the history and exploration of both popular music and science fiction located in Seattle, Washington. The Frank Gehry-designed museum building is located on the campus of the Seattle Center, adjacent to the Space Needle and the Seattle Center Monorail, which runs through the building. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Experience_Music_Projec t ©KarlenM See also: luxor hotel map the peat inn mgm grand signature hotel hotel splendid royal green field hotel hoi an the houstonian hotel hudson hotel nyc bar local hotel directory intercity airport hotel frankfurt hoteles en sirmione |

Dottie and Her Fawn - Shenandoah National Park Dottie is the resident piebald whitetail deer that has lived near Skyland for years now. She likes to hang out amongst the cabins and hotel buildings, and will frequently come right up to the back window of the restaurant in the main lodge. Needless to say, she is quite indifferent to people. Another park photographer told me he'd heard that her fawns had been killed by bears this year. So, I was thrilled to see it wasn't true. One of her fawns appears to be quite healthy and happy! The second fawn was nowhere to be seen. I just wish I hadn't clipped off the end of her tail in this shot. DSC07690 Our hotel room. On the 2nd floor! I really wondered how we were going to get Mom up those stairs, but she made it. But being on the 2nd floor there was a 2nd floor balcony overlooking the valley. If we would have been on the 1st floor I wouldn't have wanted to set out there in the dark when I couldn't sleep at 3am.
