My trusty '75 Honda CB400F with about 70,000 miles on it, mostly from doing deliveries as a courier in NYC. It had a Martek 440 electronic ignition, Jardine exhaust can with stock headers, K&N pod filters, Barnett clutch with CB900F springs and Derale oil cooler. It had a fresh set of rings and it got a new Metzeler rear tire in Freiburg, Germany. The "luggage" you see there is an external frame backpack with a steel toolbox bolted to the lower part where you would normally put the sleeping bag. Aside from tools including tire irons, I had spare tire tubes, light bulbs and fuses among other odds & ends.

WAKE UP CALL

This is the last bad picture I am going to add to my site BUT it is an important one!

I never believed in drunk driving. Years ago, I remember seeing some kids drinking from a bottle while driving down a busy street. I had them pull over and read them the riot act. I frowned upon it big time!

But look at me years later! I went out with my son to shoot some pool in a public place early before anyone else was really there; my husband joined us after work. I was so tired of living in a bubble and it was great getting out. By the time we left I had a pretty good buzz going and should have never been behind the wheel. On the way home I slid off the road and into a ditch and into oncomming traffic and hit another car.

It could have been easily been much worse!!! I could have killed the other people in the car I hit, or for that matter killed my most precious gift ( my son )! I can still hear his Horrifying screaming and always will.
That was my wake-up call to never drink again. I Thank "GOD" no one was injured or killed.

I was taken to the hospital for a back injury and treated like dirt, (I was dirt)! Then off to jail for the night (not a good place for me being environmentally ill) and not a place I ever want to be again! The judge ordered me to go to a drug and alcohol abuse counseling group. The classes were several months later and I knew I would never drink again and thought that I didn't need to be there. Acutally it is exactly where I needed to be.

I was still a victim in my mind of the whole nightmare and trauma I went through. Tom the director of the group and another counselor did a skit and portraying being a victim. Oh My God, it hit me like a ton of bricks to see how pathetic it appeared. I asked what the difference was between someone that thinks they are a victim and someone that truely is a victim? Tom said nothing is different? That was my eye opener to take back my life and to not let it control me anymore ((( Thank God ))) !!! I had lived with it for way to long and it was ruining my life.

For those of you out there that see me as being bad, well " I was bad " but not anymore. Being injured or traumatized from being in war or chemically injured or raped or whatever traumatized them, life can be very hard and we can turn to things that aren't so pretty. We need help getting through it and dealing with it, it doesn't go away on it's own.

If you know someone out there having a tough time "HELP THEM FIND HELP SOMEHOW, IF YOU CAN" Please don't ignore them that just makes it worse!

Bubble bubble, toil and trouble

Spotted this bubble in the side-wall of my car's left front tyre. According to Google searches, it's very dangerous since the tyre could suffer a blowout at random. Apparently caused by impact, possibly a speed-bump, but most likely a fucking pothole! Ugh - I don't even remember hitting one, and this tyre's only done 10000km... so pissed.

Wednesday night marks the beginning of Rosh HaShannah, or Rosh Hashanna, marks The Jewish New Year. In Hebrew, "rosh" means head and "ha shanna" means the year. as commanded, we assemble to give praise and to ask haShem for forgiveness as we pledge our repentance for transgressions and omissions against people and the holy one. We vow to return and start anew.

Part of the service, based on legend, is taking breadcrumbs to bodies of living fresh or salt water with fish. There we pray for forgiveness to HaShem, and throw breadcrumbs int the water. In the lake at Fort Lowell, where i take pictures of ducks and Great American Egrets, the fish never get the breadcrumbs;)) In the koi pond they might.

Chad Sugg released his latest cd called The Good Years a few weeks ago. It's probably the most brilliant thing I have heard in a long time. Definitely go take a listen to it.

Last week I printed off a few of my pictures. It feels good to see your own prints and be proud of them. I don't think I've ever really felt like that before. This is from the summer when my friends and I played with bubbles in my backyard. It's not film, but it's sooc besides the text.

I'll eventually stop with this whole text-on-old-photos thing, but I enjoy procrastinating too much.

The FD (1967–1972) was released at a time when the UK was undergoing a currency crisis as well as increasingly militant labour relations. The new 1599 cc and 1975 cc overhead camshaft engine design (the Slant Four) was advanced and independent tuner Blydenstein could effectively transform the engine to fulfill its potential. The suspension design of the car was far less compromised than most previous British mass-produced efforts, featuring a live axle with trailing arms, Panhard rod and coil springs instead of the traditional leaf springs, and a double wishbone front suspension assembly.

The FD, however, departed from the traditional Victor family car bench front seat norm (there were still models with bench seats however) and could be ordered with comfortable contoured bucket seating front and rear. This was standard on the Victor 2000 (later 2000 SL with the facelift for 1970) and optional on the Victor 1600 (renamed Super with the 1970 facelift). Bucket seats were standard on the more sporty VX4/90 and six cylinder Ventora versions, with the latter having reclining backrests as standard from 1969. All bucket seat models dispensed with the column shift and adopted a four speed floor shift, with overdrive optional on the VX4/90 and Ventora.

In February 1968 Vauxhall launched the Vauxhall Ventora, which was in effect a marriage of the Victor FD body with the 3.3-litre six cylinder engine hitherto offered only in the larger Cresta and Viscount models. The Ventora offered a claimed 123 bhp of output compared with 88 bhp from the 2-litre 4-cylinder Victor, also featuring correspondingly larger front disc-brake calipers. The Ventora therefore differed most spectacularly from its siblings through its effortless performance: in that respect it had no obvious direct competitor at or near its price (?1,102 including taxes in February 1968) on the UK market. The interior was also enhanced, with extra instrumentation including a rev counter. From the outside Ventoras can be identified by their wider tyres, a front grille of toothy-harmonica like gaps in place of the Victor's closely packed horizontal bars, and a black vinyl roof.

This is an interesting view.

In the foreground is the first modern skyscraper in Calgary. It was opened by the Guinness family (the same as the beer). There were other taller buildings from the early 20th c.

Behind it is the Nexen tower (formerly Nova Gas) Its knife edge shape makes it stand out in a mainly square downtown architectural landscape.

Street Comp

This is a bit of an experiment. It's a composite of about 30 shots. I've seen the technique used elsewhere and it has a fancy name but I can't remember what that is at the moment.

By using a wide aperture, longish lens and fixed focus you get a very narrow depth of field on what appears to be a wide angle lens.

More importantly it means that you can comp together various elements that were not all in the same time frame. For instance the three walkers to the right all passed at different times and I just chose the images I wanted.

It's a bit like the fake tilt/shift effect that you see the Photoshop tutorials for but is an actual in camera effect.

I'm going to have another go when I get the time. It's a technique with possibilities.

Used a Canon 85mm f1.8 as I seem to have lost the exif data!

Comp Abstract

Most of the things I learned in High School seem pretty abstract, so there is some irony here.

"Comp" is what we called Camrose Composite School when were were growing up. Its not as if there was some great choice as to which school to go, as the City only had the one.

This shot is one of the archway supports of the school with the brick in the background.

I returned to my hometown to shoot grad portraits for a lovely young woman. This will keep me busy most of the week.

Newer Wal-Mart Supercenter, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

This big Wal-Mart Supercenter opened on july 15, 2009, at the New Wyoming Mall, in the Mid-Northeast Heights area of Albuquerque, New Mexico. it is the newest of the seven (7) Wal-Mart Supercenters in Albuquerque, as well as, still, the newest of the 35 Wal-Mart Supercenters in the whole state of New Mexico, though that might soon change, as there are two additional Wal-Mart Supercenter proposals in New Mexico, one in New Mexico's second largest city of Las Cruces, and another in New Mexico's capital city of Santa Fe. Unfortunately, the Santa Fe proposal has been stalled since it was first introduced back in 2005, since the city of Santa Fe is notorious for NIMBY opposition to big developments, let alone one which includes a Wal-Mart Supercenter. However, thankfully, the proposed Las Cruces location, which would be that city's third Wal-Mart Supercenter, is moving forward at a satisfying pace, as it was first proposed only two years ago, in 2008, and is likely to break ground sometime within the next year, for a grand opening around the first quarter of 2012. I usually shop for neccesities and mild luxuries at the Wal-Mart Supercenter pictured here, as it is only like three miles from my house, although, sometimes, I also go to the old, Non-Supercenter Wal-Mart in the Far Northeast Heights area of Albuquerque, as that one is even closer to my house, and, I took and uploaded to Flickr the picture of that one yesterday. Also, I occasionally go to the Wal-Mart Supercenter in the Near Northeast Heights area of Albuquerque, which opened in 2004 as a replacement for an old Non-Supercenter Wal-Mart that was in the same location, as that is the nearest one with a Tire and Lube Center, and, it's not that far either, as it's about five miles from my house, and, about two miles from the one pictured here. The Wal-Mart Supercenter pictured here does not have a tire and lube center because that was a compromise made with some area residents who were opposed to this Wal-Mart Supercenter, and, while I would prefer it to have a tire and lube center, I'm just glad we were able to compromise with the NIMBY people on this one, as, shortly after this Wal-Mart Supercenter was approved, there was another Wal-Mart Supercenter proposal, in the Mid North Valley area of Albuquerque, but, unfortunately, that one was turned down by the NIMBY groups, and Wal-Mart backed down. However, now that Albuquerque has a Republican mayor and slight Republican majority in the city council, the city just might be more open to such developments. *I'm not, however, endorsing any party or elected official, it's just that Republicans usually are less prone to opposing large developments, such as Wal-Mart Supercenters, or new roads and such, and, on that particular issue, my views are more in line with those of the Republican party. I laughed AT him and said no, I was just taking a break and following it. It goes ALLLLL over downtown. Apparently, Angry Ladder Guy works at DT Tire and was NOT amused to find "The Quest" in front of his shop over the weekend. He was painting the front of the shop, so he was sure it hadn't been done behind him on Friday afternoon or anything.

I told him he should follow it and see where it leads if he had a spare hour.

2nd floor of the Newry Mill in Newry, SC. The mill was opened in 1894 and closed in 1975. The floor is a little warped and waterlogged as you can see in some of these pictures and there's paint chips and glass pretty much everywhere. Its a really great looking mill which is unfortunately devoid of a lot of machinery, except some of the heavier stuff in the basement. If you want any more information on the mill, I would be happy to answer any questions.

Basement of the Newry MIll. This is the boiler on the left side of the basement. It extends another story above what you can see. I climbed up the ladder at the top to the top, but it's dark and you really can't see much. The boards up there are covered with bird stuff, so I wouldn't trust any weight to them. Also, very dark room and muddy after rain.

come weekend, most young adult would linger from pub to pub, most would just stay till late night , some getting drunk, some trying to find the right partner for one night fun, some just wondering around just for the sake of following their peers, hoping they wont be left out...

I quit following the crowd for years now, reason, simply becos i found that there isnt any strong reason why I need to be there..except some volunteer who are there to distribute condom at pub, educating the young adult on safer sex...

end the of the street , there are few spiritual places, one church and here we have the buddha tooth relic temple, some friends told me " who knows when the person time is up, he or she would turn to such holy places, and pray to have all their sins or some say bad karma to be washed away...Hmmm, well maybe there will be one out of million..I dont know..

Take a closer look at the building right behind, thats the HDB/flats for elderly who live alone...and most of them are 60 years old and above and oldest I met was 90 something..some are "Ma Jie"

The income to survive is to pick up newspaper, recycling card boards, steel and other recycle items twice daily. Each trip lasted 1 to 2 hours and they could earn about SD$ 3-5, good enough to let them survive for one day if they choose to cook themselves.

I was a volunteer , a videographer to broadcast one of the less privileage granny years back, she couldn't afford to pay for her new denture, hence we offer her the services at our fhoundation free clinic(which could cost up too sd$800 to over 1000.)

Granny welcome us to her home, and a small unit with no room, just one bath room and kitchen.
Due to her poor living condition and she could hardly swallow food, she and her middle age daughter with slight mental disability only take blended food like porridge. We did watch her cooking and the porridge certainly look tasteless...

when i asked where is her bed? she just replied, we have been sleeping on the floor at night..
I was shocked with the answer..and then i asked..what about if youre feeling warm at home, isnt there suppose to be a fan? she said "ohh hot ah" then she walked to the recycle corner and pick up her favorurite chinese new year cardboard and start flipping at me, infact i was video shooting her..she asked, "cool right? " I felt so ashamed thinking how I used to left my aircond on when i was not in my room years back!

We later followed her to pick up newspaper and card board for an hour and became real tired as it was a hot day. I suggested to get some drink at coffee shop..I was trying to adjust her heavy loads and at the same time asking her " Granny, how much you can earn from such heavy loads"...she replied happily .."here alot already, maybe sd$ 2!" We look at each others silently.
I was having difficulty to push the load after our coffee session as it was really heavy but granny at late 70 walk at very fast.

Granny enjoyed the coffee very much and at the end, the bill SD$ 3.90 for 4 of us...Simple calculation, Granny have to work twice daily just to pay for drinks..We of course settled the bill and pick up the "calculation" on our own way.

there were only 3 of us, a video grapher, a photographer and a writer...we could not imagine a simple visit to granny place make such a great impact to us. Granny news, was well received and being broadcast. As volunteers, we met occasionally and still carrying the common understanding that we need to be wiser on spending our money and also learn to appreciate our resources, water, and electricity..

I still believe some people might gain peacefulness in such beautiful Tooth Relic Temple, but for 3 of us, the building right behind, the story inside every single unit of the family, left us a huge impact and sort of like a life long learning process to appreciate what we have in life. Those experience shared by Granny will stay in our heart for a long long while..

In Buddhism, there is a saying "there is no holy places, no holy person but holy moment" and those half day being with Granny was simply Inspiring!

There was a period of time, when i would carry kilos of news paper from my office to Granny's home and left the old news paper at her door side. When my colleagues bought me expensive mooncakes during mid autumn festival, I would bring the mooncakes and passed them to Granny and her daughter as I wonder how long they haven't taste such expensive and delicious mooncakes.

I guess I dont need to explain much why I would order "Orange juice" or "Fruit punch" once in a very long while when I am with my friends at certain club for drink and would leave before at 11pm to catch the last train:O)

Do one thing everyday that scares you.

This is my fifth and final photo for the Everybodys Free (to wear sunscreen) theme. This photo is really kinda crappy for the theme. I had plenty of options for todays shot but I did this. this theme didn't come out what I wanted so I think I will end it. anyway, why am I scared? Driving scares me sometimes. today I was really tired, it was really dark, it was misting and foggy and it was like 5:30pm... rush hour. People in this state take a lot of unnessisary risks and driving here can sometimes be a white knuckle experience. Sadly I kinda do do something that scares me everyday, not because I want to but because I sometimes have to. I am refering to high places, they scare me and I have to go up in high places every day for my job. I guess I am fulfilling this part of the song. anyway I went to my parents to make some thanksgiving preparations for tomarrow and on the way home decided to go here and try to take some photos of the traffic in the fog. none of those photos really came out, but my shots did... so whoo hoo... I guess. Anyway I am still kinda tired so I will stop typeing now. as promised I will paste all of the lyrics to the song that I have been refering to this week below. there are a lot of great words in there.

Sing Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts, don’t put up with
people who are reckless with yours.
Floss Don’t waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes
you’re behind…the race is long, and in the end, it’s only with
yourself.
Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you
succeed in doing this, tell me how.
Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.
Stretch
Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your
life…the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they
wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year
olds I know still don’t.
Get plenty of calcium.
Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.
Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll have children,maybe
you won’t, maybe you’ll divorce at 40, maybe you’ll dance the funky
chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary…what ever you do, don’t
congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either – your
choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s.
Enjoy your body,
use it every way you can…don’t be afraid of it, or what other people
think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever
own.. Dance…even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.
Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.
Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.
Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for
good.
Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the
people most likely to stick with you in the future.
Understand that friends come and go,but for the precious few you
should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and
lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you
knew when you were young.
Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard;
live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.
Travel.
Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will
philander, you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize
that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were
noble and children respected their elders.
Respect your elders.
Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund,
maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one
might run out.
Don’t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will
look 85.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who
supply it.
Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of
fishing the past from the disposa
