FOTD 02 August 2008 (A Variation on Green)

'Makeup Your Mind' by Francois Nars is a huge inspiration for me. I can't get enough of admiring the beautiful make-ups of his models in the book. I obviously can't compete with the results in the book, but I can try something similar. Tonight, after an exhausting day (mommy duties, hot weather and so on), I wanted to try a variation on green, similar to the one sported by Ling Tan in the book.
I used

* Collistar face powder, applied with MAC #150 brush
* Nars 'Sin' blush and a touch of Nars 'Albatross' powder highlighter, both applied with MAC #182 brush (I then used Nars Botan brush to blend all together)

* Nars 'Fuji' eye-shadow (that's the army green one), applied with MAC #239 brush
* L'Oreal 'Color Appeal Platinum' eye-shadow in gold (on the crease), applied with MAC #239 brush
* Rimmel London 'Moonstone' eye-shadow (on the browbone), applied with MAC #239 brush
* Deborah black eye pencil
* Maybelline 'Great Lash' black mascara (two coats)

* Orlane #22 lipstick (I bought it several years ago, and sometimes I still use it)
* Chanel 'Glossimer' lipgloss in 'Ovation' (applied only at the centre of the lips)

If I had petals or a flower, I would've added it to the shot.

Self portrait. Sort of felt the need to explain my absence from Flickr for the last few months, I don't think I've posted since... May? When I went to my dads and came back with a few pathetic attempts at trees and beaches again, which has been far too over done.

Any way, this isn't one I took intending for Flickr, I took it and then over-edited everything I could. Sadly, I've never quite mastered how to create flawless skin on Photoshop.

Anyway, it's been fun Flickr. But I think I can quite easily say I won't be posting anything new for a while. Maybe the odd re-edit of something from an old shoot, or the odd photo I take. But I won't be organising any more photoshoots anytime soon at all. Sadly I think my hobby/interest/whatever you want to call it. Is finished.

Sarah has put on makeup exactly twice in the last few months. Both for Halloween. This was her "work" costume, a kick-boxer. You should have seen the other girl.

This is the first shot I've posed using my new camera, a Rebel XS. I'm still pretty bad with it, but I'm getting better I think. Jumping to a DSLR for the first time (with no guidance from more experienced photographers) is kind of an interesting change.

Ny new ink. This was kind of off the cuff. I was at the shop with my buddy Donald who is in town, with a broken motorcycle, all the way from Brookly New York. He was getting his very first tattoo (at 48 years old), and I figure, "Meh, I'm here". I had spied this gem from Peter Smith on the wall and really liked it so I sat down for a bit and got drilled. I'm not typically one for flash tattoos, but I'm also pretty impulsive when it comes to getting inked. Either way, I'm very pleased.

Speaking of that "Zook" tattoo. That's a Stikfas-themed tattoo. The skull "O"s are based on stickers that were included on different Stikfas sticker sheets and the "Z" and "K" are styled after the Stikfas logo. "Zook" being short of "Zookeeper", the nickname I was given while running the Stikfanatics Asylum for, oh, half a decade or so.

Okay so I admit, when I got her, and I opened the package and unwrapped her face from her mummy-like protection I was less than enthused.

From Ladious' photos I was not really looking forward to the result and had been looking for other places to redo her makeup.

I thought she'd been ruined, that she was nothing like what I had been envisioning, and that she was just too... Well "Nothing" faced.

I TAKE IT ALL BACK. *laughs* She's nothing like I was expecting, this face is much more worried/wide-eyed than I had been expecting (I'd said carefree/free spirit on the explanation) but I'm really thinking it WORKS. *laughs*

So with just 1 hour to spare before a client was due to arrive I thought ... "why not!"

The make up took a bit of time but washed off easily & I'm very pleased with the results of this shoot. Fun, fun!
