Dream Kitchen- an occasional series

Dream Kitchen- an occasional series

This is the first in an occasional series about what I would love in a kitchen.

My parents built the kitchen in my childhood home. Dad made the cabinetry, Mum did the tiling. They made it in the Seventies, while my brother and I watched, and the colour scheme of teak-coloured timber, orange and yellow says Kitchen to me. It was a Victorian house with a big wooden mantelpiece around the chimney and alcove in which the stove sat. On the mantel, Mum had a collection of blue-and-white china, and wood-turned items made by my grandfather, as wel as antique wooden butter-pats and other kitchen curios.

My series 'Dream Kitchen' shows the kitchen of my heart- what I would love to have, and what reminds me of my old home.

Orange Pyrex (who knew?) from the local Salvation Army store. Keep up the good work, Salvos!

Antique Victorian Nippon Hand Painted Rising Sun Salt Dish/Cellar with Gilt Flower Pattern

This is an antique salt dish/cellar made in Japan between 1890 and 1920. This is indicated by the Nippon porcelain mark on the bottom. The mark itself indicates it was most likely made by Noritake.

Salt dishes were very popular on the Victorian woman's dining table as a way to display a flair for the posh!
