On the mantel, Mum had a collection of blue-and-white china, and wood-turned items made by my grandfather, as wel as antique wooden butter-pats and other kitchen curios. This is indicated by the Nippon porcelain mark on the bottom. The mark itself indicates it was most likely made by Noritake. Salt dishes were very popular on the Victorian woman's dining table as a way to display a flair for the posh!
