we will need to fence the garden to keep the local deer herd from attending the buffet. The Project for Alternative Learning (PAL) highschool students may want to participate in building the fence. This is just an idea for a deer-wildlife-fence that would use salvaged bike wheels in the lower portion of the fence, as a decorative and functional element. We want the deer fence to be attractive in order to make the community garden as neighbor-friendly as possible.

Van Gogh arrived on 21 February 1888, at the railroad station in Arles, crossed Place Lamartine, entered the city through the Porte de la Cavalerie, and took quarters a few steps further, at the Hotel-Restaurant Carrel, 30 Rue Cavalerie. He had ideas of founding a Utopian art colony. His companion for two months was the Danish artist, Christian Mourier-Petersen. In March, he painted local landscapes, using a gridded "perspective frame." Three of his pictures were shown at the annual exhibition of the Societe des Artistes Independants. In April he was visited by the American painter, Dodge MacKnight, who was resident in Fontvieille nearby.

On 1 May he signed a lease for 15 francs a month to rent the four rooms in the right hand side of the "Yellow House" (so called because its outside walls were yellow) at No. 2 Place Lamartine. The house was unfurnished and had been uninhabited for some time so he was not able to move in straight away. He had been staying at the Hotel Restaurant Carrel in the Rue de la Cavalerie, just inside the medieval gate to the city, with the old Roman Arena in view. The rate charged by the hotel was 5 francs a week, which Van Gogh regarded as excessive. He disputed the price, and took the case to the local arbitrator who awarded him a twelve franc reduction on his total bill. On 7 May he moved out of the Hotel Carrel, and moved into the Cafe de la Gare. He became friends with the proprietors, Joseph and Marie Ginoux. Although the Yellow House had to be furnished before he could fully move in, Van Gogh was able to use it as a studio. His major project at this time was a series of paintings intended to form the decoration for the Yellow House.

In June he visited Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. He gave drawing lessons to a Zouave second lieutenant, Paul-Eugene Milliet, who also became a companion. MacKnight introduced him to Eugene Boch, a Belgian painter, who stayed at times in Fontvieille (they exchanged visits in July). Gauguin agreed to join him in Arles. In August he painted sunflowers; Boch visited again. On 8 September, upon advice from his friend the station's postal supervisor Joseph Roulin, he bought two beds, and he finally spent the first night in the still sparsely furnished Yellow House on 17 September.

On 23 October Gauguin eventually arrived in Arles, after repeated requests from Van Gogh. During November they painted together. Uncharacteristically, Van Gogh painted some pictures from memory, deferring to Gauguin's ideas in this. Their first joint outdoor painting exercise was conducted at the picturesque Alyscamps. It was in November that Van Gogh painted The Red Vineyard.

In December the two artists visited Montpellier and viewed works by Courbet and Delacroix in the Musee Fabre. However, their relationship was deteriorating badly. They quarrelled fiercely about art. Van Gogh felt an increasing fear that Gauguin was going to desert him, and what he described as a situation of "excessive tension" reached a crisis point on 23 December 1888, when Van Gogh stalked Gauguin with a razor and then cut off the lower part of his own left ear lobe, which he wrapped in newspaper and gave to a prostitute named Rachel in the local brothel, asking her to "keep this object carefully." Gauguin left Arles and did not see Van Gogh again. Van Gogh was hospitalised and in a critical state for a few days. He was immediately visited by Theo (whom Gauguin had notified), as well as Madame Ginoux and frequently by Roulin. In January 1889 Van Gogh returned to the "Yellow House", but spent the following month between hospital and home, suffering from hallucinations and paranoia that he was being poisoned. In March the police closed his house, after a petition by thirty townspeople, who called him fou roux ("the redheaded madman"). Signac visited him in hospital and Van Gogh was allowed home in his company. In April he moved into rooms owned by Dr. Rey, after floods damaged paintings in his own home. On 17 April Theo married Johanna Bonger in Amsterdam.

Comrade Jacob French was born in Crawford county, Pa., Feb. 15, 1830, and died in Kincaid, Kans., Oct. 28, 1911, aged 81 yrs. 8 mo. and 13 days.
When he was nineteen he went to Illinois, but afterwards moved to Iowa where he enlisted in the 18th Iowa Infantry, doing his part to make the splendid record of that efficient regiment. He served until the close of the war.
In 1868, he came to Kansas and homesteaded land near the present site of Mildred. In 1874, he united in marriage to Mrs. Lucretia Crist, who died May 24, 1905.
For nearly forty years he belonged to the Baptist church and was a member of Major Rankin’s Post No. 439, G. A. R. at Kincaid.
His four step-daughters, whom he reared and loved as his own survive him: Mesdames Eliza Seward, Jones City, Okla.; Lizzie Shockey, Iola, Kansas; Lila Mathews, Kansas City, Mo.; Famia Hackett, Mildred, Kansas. Also one sister, Mrs. Mary Barry, Walker, Iowa.
His sudden and violent death was a great shock to the community, who regret in him, the loss of an honored veteran, a good neighbor and a Christian man.
The funeral was held at Fairview church, which was beautifully decorated for the occasion. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Martin. Comrade J. L. Hosley recited a farewell poem after the sermon, and then the members of Major Rankin Post, assisted by the sons of Veterans, conducted the remains of their fallen comrade to the cemetery and with their beautiful ceremony laid him to rest.

New Orleans - French Quarter: Gauche Villa

Gauche Villa, at 704 Esplanade Avenue at the corner of Royal Avenue, is an Italianate mansion built by James Freret for crockery merchant John Gauche in 1856. Gauche tore down an earlier house to built this one, at a cost of $11,000, in Creole taste. Richard Koch restored the house for Matilda Geddings Gray after her 1937 purchase, and her niece, Mrs. Harold Stream, had Koch and Wilson do further work in 1969.

The chaste granite portico is unusual for New Orleans. The simplicity of the large masonry cube with its even articulation transfers emphasis to the iron balcony, cast in Saarbrucken, Germany, with its bracketed cresting and to the cast iron fence. The beautiful ironwork, most of which was added as an afterthought, is uniquely integral to the house’s appearance. Numerous patterns are used, casting lovely shadows on the stucco exterior on sunny days. Rows of anthema and other Greek floral motifs decorate the edge of the roof and fence posts.

Ital or I-tal is food often celebrated by those in the Rastafari movement. The word derives from the English word "vital", with the initial syllable replaced by i. This is done to many words in the Rastafari vocabulary to signify the unity of the speaker with all of nature.

The Itals are a Jamaican reggae vocal group formed in 1976 by Alvin "Keith" Porter, Ronnie Davis, and Lloyd Ricketts (the latter two formerly of The Tennors), all of whom had previously also recorded as solo artists. All three had worked together in the late 1960s in The Westmorelites.

today was like a friday. i spent all day with my bests, went to bfg, shopped for decorations for my room, went to ryan's hockey game, then to cici's, and then back to my house to decorate my room. it was a very chill day, except i wasted too much gas, and i can't afford to do that at the fucking rate that the price is going up at. i'm excited to not have school tomorrow thanks to my proficient brain. too bad i have to work at four. whatever. today was good, and the yearbook is 58 minutes behind its final deadline, agh.

Sterling Silver Multi-Color Amber Modern Earrings

The history of amber begins about 90 millions years ago in lush green forests in the region of modern day Northern Europe. Trees in these regions produced an aromatic resin, used for protection against woodpeckers, fungus and bark-eating insects. This resin would slowly cascade covering the bark of the tree entrapping organic debris and sometimes live insects along the way. Nearly 40 different species of trees produced this protective resin, accounting for the numerous colors of amber today. Over millions of years, this golden resin produced by pre-historic trees accumulated in many layers in the soil below. With the onset of The Great Ice Age, these forests perished, the soil froze and the fossilization process began creating deposits of beautiful amber. After The Great Ice, melted glaciers flowed on top of the amber deposits, forming the Baltic and North Seas. Due to this geological occurrence, amber found its new home in the sea. The gem spent many thousands of years below 100 feet of sand at the sea bottom. After violent sea storms, various lumps of amber would separate and float among the waves, eventually reaching the shore to be discovered by man. The Aisti people were the first to pick up amber lumps along the Baltic shores 25,000 years ago. Aisti believe that amber was pieces of the Sun that had fallen down to the earth and cherished it as a gift from the heavens.

Multicolor Amber Collection: This collection became very popular in 1995 when designers realized the potential of combining different colors of amber from all over the world. Amber comes in almost 300 colors and the multicolor collection is an excellent way to emphasize it. Set against the fluid lines in sterling silver, green, honey and lemon amber combine to yield a distinctly modern and balanced look.
