Bronzed Cinnamon is a further exploration of my 'winged bail' design. The piece is constructed using Swarovski Crystal Elements Article 6106 Pear Shaped Pendant, Article 4139 Cosmic Rings plus bicones, rondelles and pearls. The seed beads include Toho seed beads, tiny vintage Japanese pearl beads, hammered charlotte seed beads and Czech charlottes. Stitches used herringbone, right angle weave, peyote and freeform. This piece will first visit my Etsy store then off to the Incube8r Gallery in Mosman, Sydney NSW. The beadwoven, pearl embellished necklace strap is Opera length. The pendant can be worn either way as it is 'double sided' ie both sides are just a little bit different from each other.

Trevi Fountain (Italian: Fontana di Trevi) is a fountain in the Trevi rione in Rome, Italy. Standing 25.9 meters (85 feet) high and 19.8 meters (65 feet) wide, it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city.

The fountain at the junction of three roads (tre vie) marks the terminal point of the "modern" Acqua Vergine, the revived Aqua Virgo, one of the ancient aqueducts that supplied water to ancient Rome. In 19 BC, supposedly with the help of a virgin, Roman technicians located a source of pure water some 13 km (8 miles) from the city. (This scene is presented on the present fountain's facade.) However, the eventual indirect route of the aqueduct made its length some 22 km (14 miles). This Aqua Virgo led the water into the Baths of Agrippa. It served Rome for more than four hundred years. The coup de grace for the urban life of late classical Rome came when the Goth besiegers in 537/38 broke the aqueducts. Medieval Romans were reduced to drawing water from polluted wells and the Tiber River, which was also used as a sewer.

The Roman custom of building a handsome fountain at the endpoint of an aqueduct that brought water to Rome was revived in the 15th century, with the Renaissance. In 1453, Pope Nicholas V finished mending the Acqua Vergine aqueduct and built a simple basin, designed by the humanist architect Leon Battista Alberti, to herald the water's arrival.

The backdrop for the fountain is the Palazzo Poli, given a new facade with a giant order of Corinthian pilasters that link the two main stories. Taming of the waters is the theme of the gigantic scheme that tumbles forward, mixing water and rockwork, and filling the small square. Tritons guide Oceanus' shell chariot, taming hippocampi.

In the center is superimposed a robustly-modelled triumphal arch. The center niche, or exedra, framing Oceanus has free-standing columns for maximal light and shade. In the niches flanking Oceanus, Abundance spills water from her urn and Salubrity holds a cup from which a snake drinks. Above, bas reliefs illustrate the Roman origin of the aqueducts.

The tritons and horses provide symmetrical balance, with the maximum contrast in their mood and poses (by 1730, rococo was already in full bloom in France and Germany).

Rod's Steakhouse in Williams, Arizona. This has been around a long time.

Both Sandra and I visited this restaurant in the 1950's (with our families on trips in differing years, of course).

The restaurant is in its 3rd owner, but they are a family dedicated to making your experience here a wonderful one. The steaks are, of course, excellent. The service is wonderful.

Ikea lights - hacked and cosy

The designer lights that I had before: (a) gave the ambiance of an abattoir and (b) had wiring which was starting to disintegrate within the mounts. (a) was fixed a few years ago with the help of a bunch of Coop tomato cans painted red. My DIY attempts to fix (b) were not permanent.

A quick trip to Ikea last Friday left me with a new set of cheap TIDIG lights which: (c) give the ambiance of an abattoir and (d) were therefore begging to be fixed, but in a different way.

Some time ago I bought a supply of black aluminium foil used in the cinema lighting industry and I still have plenty left. After 15 minutes I had cut out 6 sheets, pierced holes in them and covered the lamps.

We now have our cosy, directional light.

My soul was Black&White - One cold day in the end of Saturday, in the Park of the Ibirapuera, in Săo Paulo, just to take off photos

Ibirapuera Park (in Portuguese Parque do Ibirapuera) is a major urban park in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil. It has a large area for leisure, jogging and walking, as well as a convention center. Its importance to Sao Paulo is comparable to the Central Park in New York City.
Inaugurated in 1954 for the 400 anniversary of the city with buildings designed by famous architect Oscar Niemeyer and landscape by designer Roberto Burle Marx, Ibirapuera Park covers an area of almost two square kilometers. It is the second biggest park in the city. Admission is free of charge.

Fabric Prints

Yesterday I experimented with Inkjet printing on fabrics.
The bottom one is a synthetic silk grosgrain - it came up well but the printer didn't like it ....... nor did it take to the linen in the middle!
The top prints are on silk and that went through fairly smoothly.
I placed the fabric about 6cm down a sheet of paper - so that there would be paper at the top to grip the rollers and used masking tape to anchor the fabric, top & bottom.
This gave me a printing surface of about 17 x 20 cm - OK for me as I always work small, so fitted two images on one sheet and four on the others.
Now I have to think of how to use them, and maybe stabilize the silk - probably with vilene backing.
It's all good fun!

Oh, and look what finally made it onto the wall! The large picture in the background was resting on my dining room floor since February of this year... finally got the maintenance guys to hang it for me! Thank you maintenance guys... for hanging this large piece of artwork and my bedroom drapery rod and for programming my AC unit for me! :)

The taller plants in the back are perennial shade-tolerant impatiens. The tufts of grass in the front are liriope minor (monkey grass).

The monkey grass is clever, I think. I'm trying not to buy a lot of plants for this enormous bed and was looking at a lot of coin to get a nice border along the edge. Today I realized that I have a giant stand of monkey grass on the other side of the driveway. All I have to do is dig up scattered small clumps, and I can have a monkey grass border all along the whole edge of the bed.

Also note the plastic barrier between the dirt and the railroad tie at the bottom right of this picture. That was placed after we lost a crapload of dirt to a rainstorm. Driveway's still filthy with red clay, but we haven't lost any dirt after putting in these barriers
(which are just thick contractor trash bags - cheaper than landscape fabric).

After the sprinkler system installation was complete, it was time to plant some sod in the front right side of the house. It was mostly dead due to the amount of shade this area receives. I decided to plant St. Augustine grass because it's shade tolerant.

Not surprisingly there is plenty of classic Doors' sound as Manzarek's instantly recognizable keyboards jump out of the mix on songs such as "Game of Skill," a distant musical cousin to "Love Her Madly." Between the presence of the poets as songwriting foils and Rogers' swampy slide lines (similar to those of Robby Krieger), it's hard not to think this is an effort to continue the Doors' legacy.There's nothing wrong with that, especially when songs as powerful as the easygoing boogie of "Fives and Ones" (perhaps a reference to the Doors' "Five to One") and the jazzy, sax-enhanced shuffle of "Greenhouse Blues" are the results. Neither Manzarek nor Rogers are particularly compelling singers, but they are convincing,.

I have to admit that I am a Vanessa Carlton fan. It’s not just because she’s quirky and beautiful, but she’s got amazing talent and she has a way of tapping into deep pockets of emotionally hidden feelings. This song in particular.

When I was going through a huge project many years back- I found out that I had been basically cut at the expense of my partner’s ego. I wrote all the music and lyrics, but I apparently was not good enough to be in the project. I was livid and hurt. I spent almost 2 weeks secluded at my parents house while they were gone, practicing my guitar and getting “good enough” (I could smoke his ass any day of the week and twice on Sunday and he knew it). I was ready to go back into the studio, lay down some lightning fast chops and then tell him “No… I don’t need YOU”.

This song was in my CD player over and over. I woke up at 4:00 in the morning and played all day- until around midnight… literally. The only time I stopped was to smoke, and that cigarette was often attached to my head stock. I felt a bit of haunting and healing each and every time that I heard it. There is just so much to it. It’s very deep. At the end of the two weeks, I had managed to REALLY step up my game. I was playing scales at almost 550 BPM up and down the neck… but I didn’t tell him off. I didn’t have the need to- because this song healed me in some way!

Day Eleven: Skater Kids= BAD NEWS!!

So pretty much, I'm a freak.
I only have one pair of clean pants left (the black skinnies I'm wearing.) which is VERY rare for me, considering I prolly have more than 12 pairs of jeans. So, I was pulling on my black skinny jeans today, and I suddenly had a "great" idea! My picture is going to be making fun of skater kids!!!!
So pretty much, I have had a bad experience with skater kids.
Cody (a skater kid I dated) dumped me because he wasn't sure if our relationship was "lust" or "love". That ticks me off.
Gabe (another skater kid I dated) snuck over to my house with his friends and basically cost me my head. I never saw him BEFORE that, never saw him after. He kissed me that night, and held me really tight. I thought it was SO cute that he would do that in front of his friends. Turns out, he only did it because his friends were there. We dated for about two days, and he told me he wanted to wait 'till we were in school to date. I took that as "I wanna bang other girls, and then when we see each other more, i'll try to get into your pants too."
Jordan (another skater kid that I kinda dated) played me. We liked each other for a LONG LONG time. We flirted at school, over IM, and talked all hours into the night. Too bad he "didn't want things to hurt any worse when he left the school for Summer" Another "I wanna wait till we're in school-er". bleh.
Austin (a wanna be skater) was a freak. He was immature, and gave me a ROCK for my birthday. What the crap?!?! I dumped HIM.
Alec (wanna-be skater #2) I had some problems with him. He has A LOT of plaque in his teeth, and was about half my height. Why I kissed him, I don't even know. (I dumped him to date Cody, a skater mentioned above)
Cody Young (a skater my friend Abby dated) played her. Kept telling her over and over and over that he loved her, and he kept coming back for her. She actually cared about him, and loved him. But NOOOO, he had to keep breaking her heart, and playing her like a dang fool. I wanted to give him a PIECE OF MY MIND.
some people, I just wish I could punch, ya know?
You'da thought I woulda learned my lesson with the first skater kid I dated. heh. I feel like an idiot sometimes. So, I think I will never EVER date a skater kid again, no matter how hot they are. Maybe that's part of the reason I wanna marry Andrew. hmm. But yeah. Be careful with those skater kids.
I feel they're bad news.
