Former ETEA facilities in Vigo

Emblem of the transmissions corp of the Spanish Navy, located in the main building of the former facilities of the School of Transmissions and Electronic of the Navy (ETEA) in Vigo (Pontevedra, Spain). The ETEA was created in 1916 under the name Rios Naval Base as a repair center for mines and torpedoes of the Spanish Navy, with an allocation of 20 sailors, a monthly budget of 200 pesetas and an area of 2,000 square meters. In 1931 it became Naval Station and in 1951 was officially renamed as School of Transmission and Electricity of the Navy (ETEA). It came to occupy 115,000 square meters to the left the Spanish Navy in August 2002, moving its functions to the School of Specialties "Antonio de Escano" based in Ferrol (La Coruna, Spain).

Today the ETEA's old buildings are abandoned but remain guarded by private security. In the grounds you can not take pictures or recordings, a security guard came to scold me when I finished making these photos. Part of the facilities are starting to show some deterioration over time. Plans to rehabilitate the facilities and dedicate them to civilian use have met with disputes between politicians. The buildings are closed and most of the grounds are fenced, but the courtyard can be visited from 11am to 8pm. In addition, the breakwater of the naval base and docks have been opened to the public as a promenade.
