Couesnon Sax

couesnon sax

    couesnon
  • The Couesnon River is a river running from the departement of Mayenne in north-western France, forming an estuary at Mont Saint-Michel. Its final stretch forms the border between the historical duchies of Normandy and Brittany.

    sax
  • A saxophone

  • a Belgian maker of musical instruments who invented the saxophone (1814-1894)

  • SAX (abbr. from Slovensky akciovy index; in Slovak: Slovak Share Index) is the official stock index of the Bratislava Stock Exchange.

  • a single-reed woodwind with a conical bore

The Normandy Coast ~

The Normandy Coast ~

The Couesnon River runs past Mont Saint- Michel. At the time of this photo the tide was out, leaving extensive mud flats.

Some more info I have found about the tides at Mont Saint-Michel - The tides in the area change quickly, and have been described by Victor Hugo as "a la vitesse d'un cheval au galop" or "as swiftly as a galloping horse". The tide actually comes in at one metre per second.

The tides can vary greatly, at roughly 14 metres between high and low water marks. Popularly nicknamed "St. Michael in peril of the sea" by medieval pilgrims making their way across the flats, the mount can still pose dangers for visitors who avoid the causeway and attempt the hazardous walk across the sands from the neighbouring coast. The danger of drowning due to coastal tides after getting caught in quicksand continues to claim lives.

le Couesnon en sa folie mit le Mont en Normandie

le Couesnon en sa folie mit le Mont en Normandie

The final stretch of the river Couesnon forms the border between the historical duchies of Normandy and Brittany.
Its historically irregular course, alternating between two beds on the north and south of the Mont Saint-Michel but eventually definitely settling to the south bed, inspired the saying "The Couesnon's madness placed Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy" ("le Couesnon en sa folie mit le Mont en Normandie"), as the Mont is just to the Norman side of the river's current mouth.
However, the administrative boundary separating the two regions does not depend on the course of the river, and is about six kilometers west of the Mont.

  • An organ stop with a tone resembling that of a clarinet

  • The clarinet is a musical instrument that is a part of the woodwind family. The name derives from adding the suffix -et (meaning little) to the Italian word clarino (meaning a type of trumpet), as the first clarinets had a strident tone similar to that of a trumpet.

Pennsylvania Duck

- Breast with Black Trumpet Marmalade, “Fleischschneke”, and Banyuls Jus

This dish was not on the Summer Tasting Menu, but I saw one of the table captains carve and serve it to the table next to mine: both the dish and the service looked extraordinary. Both of my table captains presented this to me as a complimentary item, and I simply could not refuse it.

This is a very interesting play on a Peking Duck: the crispy crust is made of chopped crunchy duck skin, black trumpet mushrooms and herbs, duck breast is cooked to sexy medium rare and served with duck leg confit wrapped in German-style pasta, frisee and sweet fruit. I believe the Chef's Menu Duck comes with seared foie, sandwiched between turnip slices. As I said before - the sauce was superb.

I would also like to thank Belinda Chang for introducing me to two different vintages of Cab Franc, which is generally speaking, not my grape of choice. However, both of her suggestions were outstanding.

2nd Course: Golden Royal Trumpet Mushrooms

Golden Royal Trumpet Mushrooms
Live sea scallops, foie gras terrine, black fig dressing.

Notes: I call this the l'Astrance dish, only because the raw, shaved mushrooms coupled with the foie gras remind me of the Barbot dish.

But here, Bouley adds an extra layer of thinly sliced raw sea scallops (not sure why they're called "live" sea scallops.

I truly enjoyed this dish. The black fig dressing was key here, adding a touch of dark sweetness to temper the foie. Surprisingly, I found the mushrooms to really bring out the flavor the scallops - a milky sweetness, that also played nicely against the foie gras.

Others at my table didn't care for this dish.

I debated naming this photo "For Free" which is an awesome song by Joni Mitchell that she wrote on her way to play a concert at Madison Sqare Garden when she heard beautiful notes coming from a street musician on a street corner in Manhattan.
The music this girl got out of this violin was moving to say the least. I admire musicians who share their talent so freely - in this case in the French Quarter of New Orleans on a beautiful spring day.

Star Wars illustration 1978

Star Wars illustration 1978

Star Wars was absolutely the best thing to happen to me in the '70s, and I constantly daydreamed of fighting epic battles in a galaxy far, far away, drawing out my fantasies whenever I could. Here is a prime example, done July 9, 1978 as shown. I was 7 yrs. old.

Interestingly, my dad always, always told me to write the date on my work, which I did dilligently as a kid. As I grew older, he saw that I got lazy at it, and constantly reminded me even more often, saying "When you get older, you won't remember when you did it."

Sure enough, he was right, and these days I'm glad to find anything with a date on it.

Toots and the Maytals

Toots and the Maytals

Toots and the Maytals, originally called simply The Maytals, are considered legends of ska and reggae music. Their sound is a unique, original combination of gospel, ska, soul, reggae and rock. Frederick "Toots" Hibbert, the leader of the group, was born in May Pen in the Parish of Clarendon, Jamaica. He was the youngest of seven children. He grew up singing gospel music in a church choir, but moved to Kingston in 1961 at the tender age of sixteen.

In Kingston, Hibbert met Henry "Raleigh" Gordon and Nathaniel "Jerry" McCarthy, forming a group whose early recordings were attributed to "The Flames" and, possibly, "The Vikings". Having renamed the group the Maytals, the vocal trio recorded their first album, "Never Grow Old - presenting the Maytals", for producer Clement "Coxsone" Dodd at Studio One in 1962-63. With musical backing from Dodd's house band, the legendary Skatalites, the Maytals' close-harmony gospel singing ensured instant success for the 1964 release, overshadowing Dodd's other up-and-coming gospel trio, The Wailers. The original album augmented by studio out-takes from the Studio One sessions was re-released by Heartbeat/Rounder Records in 1997, and is essential listening for Maytals and Skatalites fans.

After staying at Studio One for about two years, the group moved on to do sessions for Prince Buster (released in 1974) before recording their second album produced by Byron Lee in 1965. However, the band's musical career was rudely interrupted in late 1966 when Hibbert was arrested and imprisoned on drugs possession charges.

Following Hibbert's release from jail towards the end of 1967, the band officially changed their name to Toots and the Maytals and began working with Chinese-Jamaican producer Leslie Kong, a collaboration which produced three classic albums and a string of hits throughout the late sixties and early seventies - "Do the Reggay", a 1968 single widely credited with coining the word reggae, "Pressure Drop", "54-46 was my number" and "Monkey Man", the group's first international hit in 1970. The group was featured in one of reggae's greatest breakthrough events - The Harder They Come, the 1972 film and soundtrack starring Jimmy Cliff, named as one of Vanity Fair's Top 10 Best Soundtracks of all time.

Following Kong's death in 1971, the group continued to record with Kong's former sound engineer, Warwick Lyn; produced by Lyn and Chris Blackwell of Island Records, the group released three best-selling albums, and enjoyed international hits with Funky Kingston in 1973 and Reggae Got Soul in 1976.

Toots and the Maytals' compositions would be given a second airing in 1978-80 during the reggae-punk and ska revival period in the UK, when The Specials included "Monkey Man" on their 1979 debut album and The Clash produced their version of "Pressure Drop". Having toured throughout the world for many years, Toots and the Maytals disbanded in the early 1980s, but reformed in the early 90s to continue touring and recording successfully. Sublime recorded cover versions of some Maytals songs in the 1990s as well.

The band recently won the 2005 Grammy award for reggae for the album True Love, an album consisting of re-recorded versions of their classics alongside popular and legendary musicians such as Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, and Keith Richards, as well as popular artists today such as No Doubt, Ben Harper, The Roots, and Shaggy.

In 2006, they recorded a reggae/ska version of Radiohead's Let Down for the tribute album, Radiodread, by the Easy Star All-Stars. The album is a complete song for song makeover of the English rock band's album OK Computer into reggae, dub and ska. Let Down has been frequently cited by reviewers as one of the successes of the album.

According to the official Toots MySpace, the band are recording a new album. Blog entries on the Myspace page [2] report that Toots has been working on a follow up to the 2004 album True Love. The album, apparently originally due for 2006 release, was still being worked on as of December 2006.

Wolverhampton Wulfrun hall 18-09-2010

The fun loving criminals one of my all time favorite bands I cant help myself when I hear their music I have to dance and sing. The band worked the crowd into a frenzy, it was a FLC party, from classics like ‘where the bums go’ and ‘swashbucklin’ in Brooklyn’ to new songs like jimi choo and how low through crowd pleasing anthems ‘Love Unlimited’, ‘10th Street’ and the smash hit ‘Scooby snacks’ a great time was had by all.

The lighting at this event was a night mare all back and side light with copious amounts of smoke lead to some very disappointing results lots of miss focus and soft images and what looks like noise but I have a feeling that it is smoke not noise as the shots without the smoke are noise free to a point.

I’ll live and I’ll learn from this and attempt to try something different next time I shoot in these conditions.

Dan

Dan

This is a photograph of my friend Dan for whom I had grown up with as a child dating all the way back to possibly the late 70's or possibly the very early 80's. Dan lived only about two houses away from where it is I had lived then at the time way way way back then over at 27515 Shackett in the city of Warren in the state of Michigan in the 48093 zipcode. I cannot predict nor easily foretell for what the exact year and the month and the date of this photo might be. I am guessing for that this was taken sometime between 1985 and before 1990. Dan was a very brilliant and a creative musician on his guitar and for when he sat down and onto a drum set in the basement. The bond and the link of our friendship forged way back then was pretty cool. This is around the time of probably 1981 or maybe 1982. This was for when the album by The Police called Ghost in the Machine had come around. Being the age of 12 and 13 then around at that time. There was alot of music for that I had loved. But I could not even begin to approach the musical talent and the genius of Dan for when it came right down to the actual playing and the use and the performance of musical instruments. MTV had just rolled out during all of this time. My father was still alive between the time of 1981 and 1984. Everything about that time seemed quite shining and idyllic. The music was good. There was an obvious painful shyness and awkwardness when being that young and trying to engage women into conversation. But girls around that time were quite beautiful. I still continue to marvel to this day how the landscape and the terrain of the origins of my child hood and background have changed to this very day.

Chinese instruments: Ruan & Er Hu

Chinese instruments: Ruan & Er Hu

two musicians playing the Ruan (left) and Er Hu (right).

The ruan (?, pinyin: ruan) is a Chinese plucked string instrument. It is a lute with a fretted neck, a circular body, and four strings. Its strings were formerly made of silk but since the 20th century they have been made of steel (flatwound for the lower strings). The modern ruan has 24 frets with 12 semitones on each string, which has greatly expanded its range from a previous 13 frets. The frets are commonly made of ivory. Or in recent times, metal mounted on wood. The metal frets produce a brighter tone as compared to the ivory frets. It is sometimes called ruanqin (??), particularly in Taiwan.

The erhu is a two-stringed bowed musical instrument, more specifically a spike fiddle, which may also be called a "southern fiddle", and sometimes known in the Western world as the "Chinese violin" or a "Chinese two-stringed fiddle". It is used as a solo instrument as well as in small ensembles and large orchestras. It is the most popular of the huqin family of traditional bowed string instruments used by various ethnic groups of China. A very versatile instrument, the erhu is used in both traditional and contemporary music arrangements, such as in pop, rock, jazz, etc.

Ode to Isis (Overture)

Will you Smile Again

Close the door and drift away
Into a sea of uncertainty
Where all your hopes and dreams
Have faded out of reach.
Remember all the bad dreams
Are not far from reality
Would you write again for me?

(let me whisper something in your ear)

And you awake and there you are
Not far off from the line before
And just how long did it take for you to understand
Where your feelings stopped and writing began
Convince yourself to take control
Play to the hilt this unlikely role.

Remember all the bad dreams
Are not far from reality
Will you write again for me?
And who bade you stop this living art?
Have you forgotten just what you are?
If you don't want to then you could at least pretend
That the paper's your soul and your blood's in the pen
And maybe then you'd see the light
And read the truth that you had to write.

If heaven sent you downstream
Where banished eyes haven't been
Would you smile again for me?
You misread your fate line
Had long run out of time
Would you write again for me?

And you awake and there you are
Not far off from the line before
And just how long did it take for you to understand
Where your feelings stopped and writing began
Convince yourself to take control
Play to the hilt this unlikely role.

If heaven sent you downstream
Where banished eyes haven't been
Would you smile again for me?

Worlds Apart

Random lost souls have asked me
"What's the future of rock'n'roll?"
I say "I don't know does it matter?"
This and that scene,
They sound all the same to me
Neither much worse nor much better

We're so fucked these days
We don't know who to hate or who to praise
Yet we consider this our suffering and pain
When we're so privileged, a fact
We all forget about as
We go whinging all over the place.

How we've laughed as they shoveled the ashes
Wrath hath soured
Blood and death, we will pay back the debt
For this candy store of ours.

Look at those cunts on MTV
With their cars, and cribs, and rings and shit
Is that what being a celebrity means?
Look, boys and girls, here's BBC
See corpses, rapes, and amputees
What do you think now of the American dream?

And our soccer moms and dads
Who raised us brats on these TV ads
I know that they sleep at night
Their conscience is intact
They've convinced themselves of that
Giving money to Jesus Fucking H Christ

How they laughed as we shoveled the ashes
Of the twin towers
Blood and death, we will pay back the debt
For this candy store of ours.

The Summer of '91

Lying on the grass
Afternoon, there's always something happening
Friends go floating gently by
I'm listening to a song inside my head
Although the summer's past
Those mythic dreams would never last
Nor do I care anymore
And if it makes you sad
Remember all the things you have
That can't be bought

Recollection brings me back
Sad to think that it was just a fantasy
We'd already accepted that
Which many others struggled to believe
And though it makes no sense
I know there are no accidents
I've no fear anymore
And if it makes you sad
To give up dreams you've always had
That can't be caught
It just can't be fought.

Looking back at '91
Reflecting on those things we could have
Said and done
The dancing lights across a crowd
Remind us of another town
That's dead and gone
It's just dead and gone

Take me to that summer past
And tell me is it really worth remembering?
I realize that music then
Was really just a song in my head
And though the fun has past
Those mythic dreams would never last
Have no fear anymore
And if it makes you cry
To look ahead well dry your eyes
It can be done
Yes, it can be done.

The Rest Will Follow

How can anyone be so unkind
As to want to take another's piece of mind?
Is acceptance so implausible?
Well I know how the best will fall
And the rest will follow.

It's important to recognize
In this world we live there is nothing worth dying
It's enough to say "hello", we're all human
But I know how the best will fall
And the rest will follow

Is it so easy to resign
To ruin this world for everyone?
I guess when it's all said and done
It's just something in our design.

We are all of us so capable of
The greatest acts of hate and the worst acts of love
I wonder sometimes what's the matter with us all
And I know how the best will fall
And the rest will follow...

Caterwaul

Eyes at night never see the day
Because it's not in my nature
Golden wings rise from the plane
They burn above the red earth
Scale these walls in front of me
Have you ever stopped to wonder
Why they forced your voice to turn
From silence to a caterwaul?

Never knew I could feel this way
So old and and unremembered
Never thought it would slip away
And fall like September
Scale these walls in front of me
Have you ever stopped to wonder
Why they forced my voice
To turn from silence to a caterwaul?
Heard your caterwaul...

And what has tried to bound me
I've severed every tie
Place your arms around me
And we'll leave the rest behind

What was I to

Her Return Debut

Her Return Debut

Things were not going well for Alyss. After the government fined the places where she played music (citing child labor law violations), and fined her for not paying income tax (she had no money left over after paying her school tuition), she resorted to babysitting and bake sales to raise capital.

The bake sale thing worked until the government shut her down for 1) not getting a proper license to sell baked goods, 2) for not using a licensed kitchen to prepare the baked goods, 3) not being a licensed cook to prepare the baked goods, 4) for not storing the baked goods in a $5,000 cart designed to keep the goods fresh while selling them, and 5) for selling food items without having a vendor's license. Just as with her income tax problem, Alyss had to rely on her older brother, Ethan, to pay the fines.

"Dress up in that fancy outfit you normally play in," Ethan told Alyss. The two were going out to dinner with their brother, Keith, and their parents. They'd be eating at one of the places where Alyss used to play the violin evenings. Alyss had felt she couldn't show her face there since the establishment was fined over it, which had resulted in Ethan bailing her out by paying the fine for them.

Imagine Alyss's surprise when she entered the restaurant, and found her violin on the stage, waiting to be played. "Would you like to provide the entertainment before dinner, or after dinner?" Ethan said to her. He explained how Alyss could legally work for family members, so Ethan bought each and every one of the places that had been fined for allowing Alyss to play. She could resume her performances, continue to receive her pay, continue to pay for her school tuition, and the government wouldn't be able to intervene again.

CASIO CT-6000 - UNSUNG CLASSIC!

CASIO CT-6000 - UNSUNG CLASSIC!

This was Casio's most expensive (?700) Keyboard just before their 'Pro' CZ range. It was considered a 'semi-pro' instrument by the uk reviewers of 1984. It can make a great 'Juno-60' Strings sound, It has a built in 'chorus & ensemble' just like the Juno's chorus 1 & 2!. The pannel buttons are membrane just like the Yamaha DX7!. The pitch wheel is the same as the CZ1000/3000/1! It Weighs the same as a FZ1! If you live in a flat or a semi-detatched, it will annoy the neigbours!!

It's also great for the kids to play. Harvey pissed over it recently and the 'Auto Bass Chord System' is defunct now!

PS:! also this machine has one of the best sounding 'analogue' drum boxes on board! It almost sounds digital or pcm, but in fact it is fully analogue! great kick drum and toms, very punchy and similar to the roland TR-909!!! (YES!!) this is a very under rated machine which disappeared under the shadows of its CZ,VZ and FZ brothers!!!!! Grab one if you see one on ebay!

Day 270: Flute

Day 270: Flute

Specifically my beloved Yamaha YFL-211S that I bought new in 1985 and have systematically abused ever since by playing it in pubs and carrying it on the back of motorbikes and bicycles.

Took these after returning from the monthly English tune session. Had almost forgotten to take a photo today again.

I've got a newer, better flute with open holes but this is the one I take to the pub to play.

I findi it quite hard to shoot musical instruments close-up.
I should research this and practise more as there is a whole cupboard full of them which could give me pictures in the darker evenings to come before the end of the project, I mean year.

Billie Joe # 4

Billie Joe # 4

Green Day was part of the California punk scene. Childhood friends Billie Joe Armstrong (guitar, vocals) and Mike Dirnt (bass; born Mike Pritchard) formed their first band, Sweet Children, in Rodeo, California when they were 14 years old. By 1989, the group had added drummer Al Sobrante and changed their name to Green Day. That year, the band independently released their first EP, "1,000 Hours," which was well-received in the punk scene.

Soon, the group had signed a contract with the local independent label, Lookout! Records. "39/Smooth," Green Day's first album, was released later that year. Shortly after its release, the band replaced Kiftmeyer with Tre Cool (born Frank Edwin Wright, III); Tre Cool became the band's permanent drummer.

Throughout the early '90s, Green Day continued to cultivate a cult following, which only gained strength with the release of their second album, 1992's "Kerplunk." The underground success of "Kerplunk" led to a wave of interest from major record labels; the band eventually decided to sign with Reprise. "Dookie," Green Day's major label debut, was released in the spring of 1994. Thanks to MTV support for the initial single "Longview," "Dookie" became a major hit.

The album continued to gain momentum throughout the summer, with the second single "Basket Case" spending five weeks on the top of the American modern rock charts. At the end of the summer, the band stole the show at Woodstock '94, which helped the sales of "Dookie" increase. By the time the fourth single "When I Come Around" began its seven-week stay at number one in the modern rock charts in early 1995, "Dookie" had sold more than five million copies in the US alone; it would eventually top eight million in America, selling more than eleven million copies internationally. "Dookie" also won the 1994 Grammy for Best Alternative Music Performance.

Green Day quickly followed "Dookie" with "Insomniac" in the fall of 1995; during the summer, they hit number one again on the modern rock charts with "J.A.R.," their contribution to the Angus soundtrack. "Insomniac" performed well initially, entering the US charts at number two, and selling more than two million copies by the spring of 1996, yet none of its singles – including the radio favorite "Brain Stew/Jaded" – were as popular as those from "Dookie." In the spring of 1996, Green Day abruptly cancelled a European tour, claiming exhaustion. Following the cancellation, the band spent the rest of the year resting and writing new material. The end result is, what is called by many, the best album of their career, "Nimrod."

"Nimrod" was well received by most critics and fans. The album sold 80,000 copies in its first week to land at #10 on the Billboard charts. The first single from "Nimrod" was "Hitchin' A Ride." The single made it to #5 on the modern rock charts and was in heavy rotation on MuchMusic and MTV. The next single the band released would not make it to number one (its highest position was #2), but it is now probably the most well known song Green Day ever wrote. Featuring Billie Joe on acoustic guitar and vocals, "Time Of Your Life" became the song to play in any remotely sad situation. The song was even used on the last ever episode of the hit TV show "Seinfeld" (it was also the most watched finale in the history of TV).

Along with "Seinfeld," the song was also played on "E.R." on two different shows. "Nimrod" has sold about two million copies, the lowest sales total out of their three major label albums, but it probably garnered the band more respect than they could have expected with another "Dookie" or "Insomniac." The band also vastly improved their live show and even won "Best Live Performance" at the Kerrang awards.

After nearly two years with barely any mention of the band, Green Day returned in late 1999 to play Neil Young's "Bridge School Benefit Concert," their first live acoustic performance. Green Day began recording their follow-up to "Nimrod" shortly after, which would eventually become "Warning:." Early in the recording process, the band decided to fire their new producer, Scott Litt, and produce the album themselves, marking the first time since "Kerplunk" that anyone but Rob Cavallo produced the bands recording. After they finished recording, Green Day decided to do something else they hadn't done before – headline the 2000 Vans Warped Tour. Green Day played an amazing set and brought more fans to the tour than any other year in Warped's history (their Toronto performance alone attracted 7,000 more fans than they had any other year).

"Warning::" was released in the fall of

"Award winning Singer/Songwriter Caren Armstrong has been making "big buoyant music" since the tender age of ten years old. She was awarded top honors at the Emerging Songwriter Showcase at the Napa Valley Music Festival, and the 15th Annual Songwriting Competition at the Tucson Folk Festival, and has been a finalist at the Rocky Mt. Folk's Fest and the Wildflower Music and Arts Festival. She is a member of Folk Alliance and was a featured showcase artist at the First Annual FARWest Folk Alliance conference in October 2004. The petite redhead's soaring vocals, sophisticated guitar chops and dynamic performances have endeared her to fans nationwide.

This dangerously honest, wickedly funny, and disarmingly vulnerable songwriter is "one of those rare musicians who plays and sings music from its bones on out. Caren's work has a visceral and deeply satisfying impact, which is invariably garnished with great good humor." Steve Coyle, The Waybacks Bay Area concert promoter Russ Jennings notes: "Caren has found a deeply original voice that the listener experiences as coming from within."

Her playing style references folk, country, blues, jazz, traditional and popular music yet is distinctively her own. Running the emotional gambit from the touching "I Feel Your Love" to the sassy "Stay Away From Me", she entices her listeners to explore their own inner landscapes "with a striking efficiency and fusion of melody and lyrics." Valerie Fasimpaur, Rambles Review. Written with a sharp yet compassionate pen, Armstrong's songs transcend the self-revelatory and speak universally to the human condition in all of its humor and outrage. They are, as Grammy winner Steve Seskin put it: "Songs about real life performed with passion and precision."

Born on a hot July afternoon in Dallas, Texas, raised on the sunny beaches of Southern California, Caren Armstrong taught herself to play guitar at age ten. She was teaching at a local music store by the time she was 13 years old, along side future country stars Vince Gill and Janis Oliver of The Sweethearts of The Rodeo. While still a teenager, she sang for a trio led by West Coast jazz stalwart, the late Gene Leis.

At home in virtually any musical milieu, Armstrong has opened for The Beach Boys, Nanci Griffith, Lee Ann Womack and toured with Dan Hicks as one of the Hot Licks. She has shared the stage with the late Dave Carter and Tracy Grammar, Caroline Aiken, Shawn Mullins, Steve Seskin, Johnsmith, Ellis Paul, Laurie Lewis, Lorin Rowan, Cheryl Wheeler, Garnet Rogers, The Waybacks, Richard Shindell, Richard Berman, Don Conoscenti, Daryl Purpose, Cliff Eberhart, Erin McKeown, Kris Delmhorst, Alvin Youngblood Hart, David Maloney, Tom Prasada Rao, and the much missed Rachel Bissex.

These days Caren lives in Oakland, CA when she is home. In addition to her busy touring schedule, she has hosted monthly songwriter showcases at The Sweetwater (Mill Valley, CA) and at Strings (Oakland, CA). She is currently hosting her showcase, "Celebrating Songwriters" at the Larkspur Cafe Theatre in Marin County. She is in high demand as a private guitar teacher, and will be teaching at the California Coast Music Camp in July 2005. Caren has produced albums for artists such as the new acoustic string band Calavaras, art-folkie Lori B, as well as for Bay Area songwriters Rachel Garlin and Ilene Adar.

Armstrong is endorsed by Santa Cruz Guitars and by Elixir Strings. She has 3 recordings to her credit: Every New Day, Independent Girl, and The Truth Stays True, the latter two recorded and released by Armstrong's label, Wildplum Recordings (Oakland CA). "
