Apliquei sobre China Glaze Devotion e depois para finalizar cola de artesanato (adoro) e top coat Invincible (usei outros, mas enrugaram muito). Vc precisa deixar tudo secar bem antes de aplicar cada camada. E achei que passando a cola antes do TC, que o acabamento fica mto mais lisinho... E fica bem diferente. Lindo para um look balada ou festa. Apliquei ontem a noite, vamos ver qtos dias vai durar. O que acharam? VINTAGE CYMA GENTS SWISS WATCH I am looking , and hoping that maybe someone can tell me a litte bit about this watch. I e-mailed CYMA and the reply was that their records only go back to 1978 because of a take-over I think it has what looks like a stainless steel case, has a brushed steel finished dial, and markers at every minute around the outside of the dial, and every five minutes set towards the inside of the minute markers. It has a sweep second hand. Just below the 12'o'clock marker is the letter 'C' (the cyma logo), and under the letter 'C' is the name 'CYMA', under which it says 'AUTOMATIC' in smaller, upper case letters. Just above the six-thirty marker is a date window, below it , writen in small upper case letters is the word 'swiss', and above it, there is the word 'navystar' in small itallic lower case letters, i am sorry that i can't decifer what colour any of the writing or the minute markers are, except, i think the five minute markers are two-tone silver. I am extremely interested in the watch's history etc, and would be most happy if you could help in any way. Self portait in grey dress 1 On my Christmas break I was inspired by some of the sassy ladies on this site to make a purposeful attempt at self portaiture and styling photography. These are my first results. The dress that I am infact wearing is from Topshop's fab January sale. It is grey with a silver thread detail. The necklace was a gift from my uncle Charlie. Grey 50's Dress Dress is 2 parts, the underneath is a strapless grey/silver (non-see-thru) and the top dress is a sheer grey/silver. Dress is probably a size 7, and fairly fragile. A Rare and Important Jewish Silver Shekel of the First Jewish War, Dated to the Fifth Year Jewish War. 66-70 AD. Shekel, 14.08g. . , Year 5, 21 March-4 August, 70 AD. Obv: Ritual cup with pearled rim, the base is raised by projections on ends; paleo-Hebrew around (shekel of Israel) and date (year 5) above the cup. Rx: Stem with pearled bottom and three pomegranates; paleo-Hebrew around (Jerusalem the holy). Hendin 671a. TJC 215a. As Struck. This is the rarest of the shekels of the Jewish War. It is dated to the fifth and final year, which began on the first day of the Jewish month of Nisan (March 21, AD 70) until the Jewish Temple was destroyed on the seventh of the Jewish month of Ab (August 4, AD 70). According to The Menorah Coin Project, only 24 examples of shekels from the fifth year are known to exist. They were struck from four obverse and five reverse dies. The style of this coin is somewhat irregular, however, irregular shekels from the first and fourth years are well known and one obverse die of the fourth year shares many design traits with this coin, and appears to have been engraved by the same hand. (Goldstein, I and Fontanille, J.P., "A New Study of the Coins of the First Jewish Revolt against Rome 66-70 C.E." ANA Journal (1, 2) 2006: 25, Fig. 11 for photographs of the year 1 and year 4 coins mentioned above.) This coin was one of a group of 13 year five shekels discovered in the 1980s in the vault of the famous numismatic London firm of Baldwin's with a note from an unknown person who, at the beginning of the century, thought the coins were forgeries. The entire group had been cleaned. The shekels were all struck from a single pair of dies—the very same set of dies that struck an example, previously thought to be unique, of the year 5 shekel in the British Museum (BM 20), which had been acquired in 1887. I have personally examined the coin in the British museum on multiple occasions, and its reverse is covered with silver chloride typical of many uncleaned shekels of the Jewish War. This, along with other diagnostic factors, proves the authenticity of the specimen in the British Museum, and it is not possible that the additional 13 examples were replicated from it. In fact, all of the 13 known coins differ in strike, and display different aspects of centering, corrosion artifacts, and die cracks. One of these 13 coins was acquired for the collection of The Israel Museum, Jerusalem, by Prof. Ya'akov Meshorer. Our coin was perhaps the best example in the group of 13, and for that reason it was sold almost immediately, so was not one of the 12 other examples that were subjected to scientific investigation by both the British Museum and the Hebrew University. The study is reported in the Israel Numismatic Journal 9 (1986-1987), "The Application of SEM for Authentication of An Important Find of Year Five Shekels of The Jewish War," Kreindler, H. pp 38-45. Another interesting aspect of this group is that earlier shekels, as well as other year 5 shekels, are struck in vertical die positions, which suggests they were struck from fixed dies. The die axes of this group, however, are more varied, suggesting they were struck from loose dies. Interestingly, the phenomenon also occurs near the end of the Bar Kokhba Revolt, and according to the INJ article cited above this was probably because these were struck while "Jerusalem was under siege by Titus and the Roman army, this could have been the last issue, made under trying circumstances, perhaps at a make-shift minting location. This could account for both the slightly different style and epigraphy of this issue, leading to the conclusion that properly aligned dies were not available."--DH. Gemini6, 320 A Pair of Hellenistic Gold Earrings on Oxidized Silver Necklace, an Unusual and Wonderful Group Gold and silver, Early Hellenistic, ca. 275-250 B.C.E., Allegedly from Egypt Weight: 180 g.; L. 6.4 cm. The protomes hammered and fashioned from a lump of gold and fitted over the wider end of the hoops, the latter made by winding gold wire over a long horn-like core. The heads themselves considerably cold-worked: chiselled, chased, punched, with decorative elements added of plain and beaded gold wire and beaded spirals annealed on. On the foreheads a small calyx with beaded rim to receive an inset - glass or precious stone - and the eyes hollow for inlay. A thick gold loop under the lower jaw of the bulls to allow insertion of the narrow end of the hoop, here composed of strands of wire annealed together. The necklace a chain of silver links (?). Condition: hoops slightly bent with a slight crush on each. Inlays missing. The necklace now a lump of silver and silver chloride. Traces of wool thread (visible under a microscope). Hoop ear-rings of this type appeared in the second half of the 4th century B.C. and most of the earliest that come from dated contexts were found in Macedonia and Tarentum [1]. They became popular throughout the Greek world during the Hellenistic period. The earliest ones had lion protomes, later other animal heads and humans - Negro heads, maenads and sometimes half figures - are represented. The bull headed examples would appear to be a Ptolemaic speciality since most have been found on Cyprus and in Egypt. An important jewellery hoard with several very similar specimens was found in the ruined temple at Toukh el-Qarmous (Egypt) [2], destroyed around 240 B.C., which gives a dating of around 270-240 B.C. Short Shorts Scandinavian Pride Ride Silver short shorts! Only in Portland during Pedalpalooza could you lead and event called the Short Shorts Scandinavian Pride Ride and over 100 participants will show up! The pre-ride picnic in Piccolo Park in SE Portland brought around 20. What a feast of open sandwiches with a choice of cheeses included Brunost, the Norwegian brown cheese and IKEA pickled herring and salmon. Also homemade sour cherry jam (Deena!), lingon berry jam, and Lefse! Dan Miller picked up some on his trip to Minnesota, and I don’t know of anything tastier! As more short shorts arrived, I ushered them to the flag making station with paper and crayons and also Elly was taking portraits in the park. At one point the Yoga by Bike Ride converged in the park. But there wasn’t much intermingling. Soon the tiny park was a sea of short shorts and homemade flags on bikes, ready to parade around town. I asked if there were any native Scandinavians, but we were all Americanized or a Swede for the day. Thanks to Shawn G for bringing a portable ‘bull horn’ so people could have slightly more of a clue of what was going on. The bike route was done “Viking Style.” At the start, Carl Larson –the original inspiration for the ride* – treated us all to an extended Ladd’s Addition alleyway ride. Through out the entire night we yelled out “Who’s got Short Shorts! We’ve got Short Shorts! We then rode over the Hawthorne bridge to Keller Fountain for a short break, a few folks got in the water, and why not, as we were wearing short shorts. Then we biked through downtown to the Pearl for another fountain visit at Jamison Square and a group photo. Though the funny thing is as we all got up and posed, I realized our photographers had left the ride. Luckily Tom and couple others stepped in. We headed back eastside, but this time we did it crazy Scandinavian style. We bike over the top of Steel Bridge! On the road! And lastly the ride ended at Norse Hall, where the ladies generously opened up the Oslo Lounge – Horny Troll Bar just for us. And boy were they pleased with our group – now at about 50! Many a drink was poured including the house special, the Horny Troll (orange juice and Akvavit ). The ladies knew I was in charge of this crew and poured strong, and soon I was taking lots of blurry short short pictures. Wow, is it only Thursday? *Carl Larson was seen in a Norwegian sweater and short shorts on the annual January Palm Tree Ride – and the idea to do a Short Shorts Scandinavian Pride Ride was born! Boys Brigade 1956 The 16th Liverpool Company Boys Brigade. The picture was taken from the now demolished house that was used by the BB situated in Green Lane Tuebrook. Behind the lads is the newly erected Bankfield Girls School and behind that was the original Tue Brook which flowed from Queens Drive I believe. Beyond that was a farm which ran alongside Mill Bank. We played football and cricket on the field there and used the old barn as dressing rooms. I enjoyed the BB although it got a bit heavy religion wise. But there I am, the only trumpeter with shorts. We graduated to bugles shortly after and I had the silver bugle to lead the band! (All went well until my lips collapsed on a march one day!) There was a hall behind the old house where we had parades and drill and also gym and other activities. The old house had lots of rooms on about three or four floors where different activities took place - one being boxing. A few of the lads in the photo were pretty tough kids at school and when I joined I was surprised to see them there. I stayed from age 11 to 15 when I got a job. I had been in the cubs and scouts before I joined but I was hopeless at knots and most other things and went into the scouts 'blind' as the horrified Arkayla (how is it spelt?) told me. I had no stars on my cap. No other badges either. Hopeless. But in the BB I got a buglers badge and a gym badge and got to play football and cricket. Good times for a kid. The China, 1996 Inlay and Guitar by Larry Robinson Larry began this personal project in 1988. The delicate brush and ink landscape was painted by Lampo Leong, a graduate of the Guangzhou School of Fine Arts in China. Note the subtle cloud patterns painted on the back, and the dragon that contains over 1800 separate hand cut pieces. Each scale on the dragon is engraved with about a dozen marks, and three different colors of ink were used to fill the engraved lines. The red flames are translucent red Plexiglas, silver painted on the underside so the light bounces off the bottom and gives a muted glow. On the front, the figure on the peghead is Bishamon- ten, the Buddhist “Guardian of the North.” The fingerboard dragon is the inverse image of that which is on the Martin China Dragon guitar (using Dixgold, however, instead of the real thing). The ebony tuning keys have raised calligraphy on each surface, representing the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac. Larry estimates that the total time spent on this guitar is in the thousands of hours. "Black and White Pisces" themed cake by Wolfbay Cafe Here is a birthday one I did using ALOT of details with royal icing. The cake itself is a black/white marbled cake covered in black modeling chocolate. My vanilla buttercream fills each layer. The whole top centerpiece is done with royal icing. The Birthday girls requested a cake for a "Black and White" themed party, incorporating their Zodiac sign "Pisces". I used some drop flowers for the front and alot of wavy, flowing designs all around the cake. If you look closely, you will see in the front of the bottom tier, I've added the Pisces constellation pattern with some silver dragee's. The top banner was made from gumpaste. I brushed most of the royal icing deco with silver luster dust, after spraying it lightly with black airbrush paint. Tucked Away... ... at least for now. I have so many treasures tucked away, as I try for a less cluttered look in our house. The majority of the de-cluttering has been in the bedrooms and the former home office/ guest room which has turned into my little Woman Cave. Tommy's Man Cave is his recliner in front of the TV. ;-) I have not put anything back on the walls in those rooms... yet. If anyone remembers my older shots of those rooms, then you know how many prints and paintings were on the walls! Most of my treasures have been stored in bins and boxes on shelves in my walk-in storage closet. But I like to keep a few things out on the shelves where I can see them, in case I want to go "shopping" in my own little thrift store/closet. ;-) silver tray collage I found a bounty of silver trays at the thrift store, but this one with the handles was the best! I didn't have a suitable bird, so I used a pretty photo from Alpha Stamps instead. I rubbed Colorbox chalk ink (Amber Clay) on the edge of the flower so it would match the scrapbook paper background. Chandelier crystals add such a nice touch! I need to put them on everything from now on. :) (Oh - ignore the paper clip at the top; we had to use that so it would hang flat until we found a better way to hang it, which was to glue a picture hanger on the back of the tray. It worked great with E6000, if you want to make this without drilling holes.) PhotonQ-Zero Gravity Toilet Looking for the toilet when I came across them... =) Zero-Gravity Toilets became famous when the movie "2001, A Space Odyssey" came out in 1968. In a now infamous scene, one of the main characters goes to the restroom in outer space. He encounters a very long list of instructions on how to use the Zero-Gravity Toilet onboard the ship. What it say : ZERO GRAVITY TOILET PASSENGERS ARE ADVISED TO READ INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USE 1. The toilet is of the standard zero-gravity type. Depending on requirements, System A and/or System B can be used, details of which are clearly marked in the toilet compartment. When operating System A, depress lever and a plastic dalkron eliminator will be dispensed through the slot immediately underneath. When you have fastened the adhesive lip, attach connection marked by the large "X" outlet hose. Twist the silver coloured ring one inch below the connection point until you feel it lock. 2. The toilet is now ready for use. The Sonovac cleanser is activated by the small switch on the lip. When securing, twist the ring back to its initial-condition, so that the two orange line meet. Disconnect. Place the dalkron eliminator in the vacuum receptacle to the rear. Activate by pressing the blue button. 3. The controls for System B are located on the opposite wall. The red release switch places the uroliminator into position; it can be adjusted manually up or down by pressing the blue manual release button. The opening is self adjusting. To secure after use, press the green button which simultaneously activates the evaporator and returns the uroliminator to its storage position. 4. You may leave the lavatory if the green exit light is on over the door. If the red light is illuminated, one of the lavatory facilities is not properly secured. Press the "Stewardess" call button on the right of the door. She will secure all facilities from her controll panel outside. When gren exit light goes on you may open the door and leave. Please close the door behind you. 5. To use the Sonoshower, first undress and place all your clothes in the clothes rack. Put on the velcro slippers located in the cabinet immediately below. Enter the shower. On the control panel to your upper right upon entering you will see a "Shower seal" button. Press to activate. A green light will then be illuminated immediately below. On the intensity knob select the desired setting. Now depress the Sonovac activation lever. Bathe normally. 6. The Sonovac will automatically go off after three minutes unless you activate the "Manual off" over-ride switch by flipping it up. When you are ready to leave, press the blue "Shower seal" release button. The door will open and you may leave. Please remove the velcro slippers and place them in their container. 7. If the red light above this panel is on, the toilet is in use. When the green light is illuminated you may enter. However, you must carefully follow all instructions when using the facilities duting coasting (Zero G) flight. Inside there are three facilities: (1) the Sonowasher, (2) the Sonoshower, (3) the toilet. All three are designed to be used under weightless conditions. Please observe the sequence of operations for each individual facility. 8. Two modes for Sonowashing your face and hands are available, the "moist-towel" mode and the "Sonovac" ultrasonic cleaner mode. You may select either mode by moving the appropriate lever to the "Activate" position. If you choose the "moist-towel" mode, depress the indicated yellow button and withdraw item. When you have finished, discard the towel in the vacuum dispenser, holding the indicated lever in the "active" position until the green light goes on...showing that the rollers have passed the towel completely into the dispenser. If you desire an additional towel, press the yellow button and repeat the cycle. 9. If you prefer the "Sonovac" ultrasonic cleaning mode, press the indicated blue button. When the twin panels open, pull forward by rings A & B. For cleaning the hands, use in this position. Set the timer to positions 10, 20, 30 or 40...indicative of the number of seconds required. The knob to the left, just below the blue light, has three settings, low, medium or high. For normal use, the medium setting is suggested. 10. After these settings have been made, you can activate the device by switching to the "ON" position the clearly marked red switch. If during the washing operation, you wish to change the settings, place the "manual off" over-ride switch in the "OFF" position. you may now make the change and repeat the cycle. Still feeling like going.... ? =P When I saw this, it reminded me of a scene in the last Jackass movie, where they have some kind of """scientific experiment""" about what it must be IMG 5033 Casting multiples - Once the units have been cast, the rest of the investment has to be removed. The bulk of it is removed by hand, and then the tree can be placed in an ultrasonic cleaner to help remove even more. Love their look and colors! When i pick up a strand, wish they could tell the story of who made them and what hands they had passed through. What stories they would be! Unfortunately, really nice old trade beads can be VERY expensive, so I have to stick with the newer ones (although the vendor said he thought these were around 100 years old). One of these days . . . When I saw these imitation coral glass African trade beads at a show, they were mine! It is unusual to find a strand where the beads are so closely matched. In doing some research I found out the beads probably come from Nigeria, made from a secret mix of silica and other components. The red color represents royalty and wealth. Faux coral necklaces are very popular with the the people of West Africa. I named the necklace BAJA SUNSET because of the fabulous sunsets that can be seen in the Baja region: orange for the sunset; turquoise for the ocean. Have very multi-ethnic thing going with this necklace: African trade beads, Thai silver, Bali silver and a name from Mexico! My First Ring I was sooo proud of this I couldn't wait to show it to my Plurky friends, but I have finished it properly now and thought it was about time I put something new up here! At the moment i am not intending to sell any of my silversmithed pieces, to be honest there are so many fantastic and innovative artists out there I am not sure I have a unique style that would find any niche, so these are just for friends and family and of course.. myself. I still love wire-wrapping. I have been going to a class but it is very slow and having spent two hours this week simply making a bezel and not even soldering it I decided to go home and go the whole hog myself. I couldn't have done it without the lessons but I also know enough to get this far on my own. I am sure my teacher will find lots wrong with it, but I was very pleased and I wear it all the time. Hopefully this weekend I will have a go at some earrings and some more copper-silver jewellery. I'm raring to go, now, where's my torch?
