Prince at First-Avenue he played three shows tonight - Macy's, Target Center, but the best is saved for First Avenue, where he became famous and the club where Purple Rain was filmed. Three of us tried to get in, security was tight - nobody was getting in without a wristband, ticket, and an ID - we only had one of these. -------- The Associated Press Sunday, July 8, 2007 MINNEAPOLIS: Prince thrilled his hometown fans with three shows over 12 hours, stopping only when police shut him down. The Minneapolis native first performed Saturday at a department store to promote his new cologne, cramming nine songs into a 45-minute set. He then played that night at the Target Center arena. He capped the night across the street with a return to First Avenue, the club he made famous in the movie "Purple Rain." "Minneapolis, I am home," the Purple One declared after the first song at Macy's department store. Minnesota's governor and the Minneapolis mayor issued proclamations honoring Prince, and fans flew in from all over the country to see him. After the Target Center, Prince waited until nearly 2:45 a.m. Sunday before starting the First Avenue show, the first time he had played at the club since 1987. He was 15 songs and 70 minutes into a 24-song set when he announced from the stage: "The authorities say we gotta go. We always listen to the authorities. I promise I'll be back." The club is allowed to stay open till 3 a.m. as long as liquor isn't served after 2 a.m. Police Sgt. E.T. Nelson, watching from across the street as fans left the club, pointed to the many officers working overtime because of the event. More than 20 officers had worked to block off the streets surrounding the club and Target Center. "I think it's very arrogant of him to think he can hold us here like this," said Nelson. "The law is the law for anybody." First Avenue owner Byron Frank said the police talked with Prince's crew and did give the rocker a little extra time to wind it down. "It's very sad they had to do it, because everybody was having such a wonderful time," Frank said. Valorie - Spaghetti Dinner After a very tiring day of work i came home and took off to the store with val to get some groceries. the plan for the night was to get stuff to make spaghetti for dinner. I have never actually cooked spaghetti from scratch but i figured it could not be that difficult. The first problem arose when we realized we didn't have big enough pot to cook the noodles in. I could of swore i had one but back to the store we went to get a cheap 15 dollar pot. Once the noodles were cooking we started the sauce. The sauce was not cooking fast enough for my liking so i turned up the heat. No one told me that the sauce would pop and fly out of the pan burning me in the process. The spaghetti turned out pretty good. Clean up on the other hand was not to much fun. For my shot of the night i wanted something pretty simple. just a head and shoulder shot. Val wasn't really up to it but once the camera started clicking she was throwing out poses left and right. I had to stop shooting or it would of turned into a full out photoshoot. It was quite a fun day with my best friend. strobist: sb-600 into a bounce back umbrella. trigged with nikon cls in ttl mode Related topics: tire sales and service best tyres track day tyres uk 4 wheeler tires oil change tire rotation coupon muscle car tire puncture in tubeless tyres tires direct bike tire size comparison table |

Cornwall 365 - Day 49 Another very busy day at home and for once I managed to get quite a bit done, felt pretty good all day and cleared up a lot of paperwork on my desk. I also spent some time checking through my online wish list for Christmas, I thought I’d marked all those I had received last year but found one that I’d missed, and spent some time sorting through my CD collection and DVD collection to make sure I hadn’t bought anything that was on the list. Found another duplicated CD so that’s two I have two copies of. While doing this I took the opportunity to get a pic for todays Cornwall 365 - I took one of Cds already so shot this one of some of my DVD collection. Right now I’m feeling pretty tired so will try and catch up with comments in the morning. Evening Sky & Story Love how the bright yellow tablecloths are so vibrant against the evening sky. It was such a relaxing sit while waiting for my gelateria. If you order a gelato to go it's much cheaper than sitting down (and getting water and table service). It was in capturing this image that I "befriended" the wait staff who was serving me (he noticed how nicely my camera was able to catch the scene - a line? LOL). We had a nice chat in which he mentioned that one of his best friends was from Canada (a line?) and was kind enough to offer to show me around Venice, to the non-tourist spots, after his shift at 10pm. He instructed me to check out Rialto Bridge and then to head back to Paolin (after I stop by Caffe Florian). Even though I thanked him for his kind hospitality (and he gave me a nice discount on my order) and pre-warned him that I might "get lost" or whatever, I feel bad for standing him up in the end (if he reads this, sorry! I was really tired and cold after my visit to Caffe Florian). I quickly realized that Venice really was a tourist trap and regret not having seen the places that only "locals would know of," but oh well. INDIANAPOLIS TIRE BARN - INDIANAPOLIS TIRE
Indianapolis tire barn - Ntb tires locations austin tx. Indianapolis Tire Barn
Orton Barn ( 1 of 2) Hwy.2, Plainfield, Vermont. ONE EXTREMELY LARGE DAIRY BARN !!!!!!!! I could find next to nothing with my google searches and the information that I got from the guy who lived beside it just did not add up. He told me it was on the National Historical Register, its not, and that it was only used for ten years as a dairy barn, that didn,t seem logical so really had to work at finding some answers. The covered bridge a mile or so down the road is on the National Historical register ( Martin Bridge) which led me to a phone number for the local Historical Societies. A phone call to John Johnson of Marshfield, Vermont was met with the straight forward answers that it seems the New Englanders give. Not much time is spent with chit chat before getting to the meat of the issue. Nothing wrong with this, just not the way it would have been handled were I,m from. The barn was built in 1911 and has five floors in it with the second floor being used to house and milk the one hundred plus cows. Up till electricity came to the area they were milked by hand. John Johnson the president of the local association had been in the barn about three years ago and says it is in rather good shape with some storm damage of the tin roof being replaced this week, always a good sign. The ground floor would have been used for manure removal and storage. Conflicting info as to the third floor, some have said it housed milk cows also, and others say, chickens and pigs. I would not be surprised that part of this floor was living quarters for the help. That leaves the top two floors. One would have been used as a hay mow and I,m hoping that someone knows more about this barn and can give an answer as to the use of the top two floors. A photo that follows gives a side view of the silo that is attached to the barn. One of the few barns that are significantly taller than the silo. The barn was updated in the 1950,s with a shed attached to hold a bulk milk cooler, replacing the milk cans that were previously used. John could not say for sure, but thinks that the farm ceased milking cows some time in the late 1960,s to the early 1970,s. As large as this is ,it is best viewed large or original to see all the details. Photographer vs. Barn An epic, David and Goliath battle in which ultimately, everybody wins. Randy, (aka DMIA JAYHAWK), takes on a falling down barn. Taken Sunday, November 15, 2009 on a country road east of Knoxville, Iowa. Watertown Refreshes Coke wall ad on 80 Main St., Watertown, MA. Building was built between arround 1912 by grocer Gregorio Tomasetti for the Watertown Public Market. Mr. Tomasetti lived above the market, as shown in 1919 city directory. By 1930 he is Gregory Tomasetti, living above the market with his wife, Mary. By 1935 the Market is apparently closed but Gregory and Mary are still living upstairs, now in apartments 2 and 3. In 1937 he is definitely listed as retired and 2 daughters (Clara, Lucy) and one (married) son (Francis, a musician) are "rooming" at this address, presumably in other apartments in the building. In 1939, Gregory and Francis are both listed as owners of the building. In any case, we might reasonably assume that the Watertown Public Market is the origin of the Coke sign, which signs were first painted c1910 and had their heyday in the 20's/30's. dumpster abstract ... in front of an abandoned factory in Watertown MA near the river. Boring Gavaskar-India vs England Lords WC 1975 One-day cricket is such an established part of the game now that it is sometimes easy to forget that it is a relatively new concept. The first domestic tournament was launched in 1963, and the first limited-overs international followed eight years later, almost by accident after a Test match was rained off . The inaugural World Cup came in 1975 (two years after the ladies' version, but that's another story). The first match in that competition produced one of the most controversial one-day innings of all time. In the opening round of games, on June 7, 1975, England, the hosts, were drawn to play India at Lord's. The format of the event - there were two groups of four countries - meant that a defeat would leave the losers struggling to progress. The scene in London was perfect, with high temperatures and glorious sunshine, conditions which continued throughout the two-week tournament and on through the rest of the summer. It had, however, been a near-run thing. Five days before the start, the weather was so grim that snow stopped play at Buxton in Derbyshire. Demand for tickets wasn't as it would be now - this was, after all, a relatively new idea - but, nevertheless, Lord's two-thirds full. The first half of the game went according to plan. England batted and piled up 334 for 4 in 60 overs, at the time the highest total in one-day cricket. Dennis Amiss led the way with 137 (an innings of "calm, simple movements," according to Tony Lewis) and was well supported by a solid 68 from Keith Fletcher. Although England wobbled mid-innings, losing three wickets for 15, the respite was brief. As the Indian bowlers tired in the heat, a 30-ball 50 from Chris Old bludgeoned the match out of their reach. The competition rules stated that if a group was tied, run-rate would be the deciding factor. So, even if India lost, the more runs they scored, the better the chance of reaching the semi-finals. Such considerations or tactics were, however, sadly lost on Sunil Gavaskar, who opened the innings. From the off, it was apparent that he was adopting a strategy known only to himself. At first, his snail-like batting was put down to a desire to see off the new ball. But when he continued his go-slow, frustration among the crowd grew. India's supporters voiced their desperation, and as the innings drew towards its turgid conclusion a few even ran to the middle to remonstrate with Gavaskar. "Dejected Indians were pathetically pleading with him to die fighting," reported The Cricketer. "Their flags hung limp in their hands. It was a perverse moment of self-inflicted shame." On their balcony in the pavilion, Gavaskar's team-mates made no secret of their frustration. In The Times John Woodock wrote: "From the Mound stand, where the police were kept as busy removing rowdies as if it were the Hill at Sydney, anyone who could break the cordon came to plead with the Indian batsmen to play the game properly. But it was no use. "To understand why India, and especially Gavaskar, batted as they did, It is probably necessary to remember what happened when they last played at Lord's. They were bowled out then for 42. If they could not win on Saturday, as they decided they could not after England's innings, then every effort had to be concentrated on averting another collapse." By the end of the innings, Gavaskar had crawled to 36 not out off 174 balls with just one four; India had scored 132 for 3 and had lost by 202 runs. The motive behind the innings remain unclear. In a post-match statement, GS Ramchand, India's manager, said that Gavaskar had considered the England score unobtainable and so had taken practice. It was an excuse, but not one that anyone believed. "I do not agree with his tactics," Ramchand concluded, "but he will not be disciplined." Rumours abounded, the most popular being that Gavaskar was unhappy with the team selection, especially the decision to ditch the team's reliance on spinners (who had been mauled in England the previous summer) in favour of seamers; others argued that he was annoyed that Srinivas Venkataraghavan was made captain. "His cussedness could quite easily have been formed before the match by matters of selection, his hotel bedroom or even the nightly meal allowance," wrote Lewis. "Whatever the motives were he had no right to force them on the sponsors who have put ?100,000 into cricket this summer, or on the 16,274 spectators who paid ?19,000 to watch." Ted Dexter, at the time commentating for the BBC, argued that Gavaskar should have been pulled from the field by his captain. "Nothing short of a vote of censure by the ICC would have satisfied me if I had paid good money through the turnstiles only to be short-changed by such a performance," he fumed. But match referees were not introduced for almost another two decades and the ICC at that time did not get involved in such matters. A Day 360. January 5th, 2010. The abandoned school Monday, 25 April 2011 Other earthquake and tsunami effects... ... that I am hearing about as I go along. Even in these regions, far from where it all happened, life has incorporated the effects of the tsunami. These are some of the stories which my friends told me during the past few days about how the crisis has affected them personally. An elderly friend of mine, living north of Tokyo in the mountains and a fair distance from the affected area, let me know soon after the earthquake that she was fine. The only effect was that her daughter, who had arrived for a visit from her southern home, was unable to travel back when her time came, as the railway network had been disrupted. The local line has meanwhile been restored and, in a letter, she very much encouraged me to come and visit. But alas, she found it hard to cope with the constant aftershocks, grew very tired from lack of sleep and decided to travel south with her daughter to stay there for a while. I am still hoping to visit her, albeit far from her home. There was no damage in Tokyo itself. My friend living there had some difficulty walking during the earthquake, as the ground under his feet swayed from side to side like a ship rolling in a storm -- his books fell off their shelves but there was no other damage. Another friend, a hospital doctor working south of Tokyo, hardly felt the earthquake as such. In the weeks that followed, some medicines and catheters became scarce -- these are normally supplied from the affected areas, and it took a while to find replacements for them. Some of his colleagues left the hospital for a few months to help the survivors in their refuges. My Osaka friends love the organic rice they buy from a small producer. They recently received their last delivery from him, with a warning that there might not be another one for a while. One of the aftershocks of the earthquake shook up his paddy fields, and if these are now no longer watertight, the next crop will be small. We went shopping with these same friends and their two young sons, buying pencils, writing sets and erasers, which they took to school this morning, as did every other child in the school. All these treasures are to be sent to a refuge, where the children are finally resuming their studies. The Osaka children, whose lives continue pretty untouched by the event, are still struggling to understand what “losing everything” means for a child of their age, in a different part of Japan... The football game yesterday was played in an abandoned school -- a fine old building of the 1950s or thereabouts, roomy and sturdy, with a lovely garden and a large sports field (where the football games took place). The building (now abandoned because of population movements, which have meant that the number of children in the catchment area has shrunk) is fenced off but entirely intact. Not the slightest damage, and no vandalism of any kind. I asked what might happen to it. It turns out that abandoned schools like this one can easily be converted to refuges at times of crisis. They are solidly built and can withstand most earthquakes. In the north of the country, several such schools have been revived and are now being used to house numerous families following the earthquake and tsunami. JR Shikoku one-man train After this, Machiko went home and we returned to my teacher's house for the evening, tired from our day out, and we turned in early, so we could get an early start the next day. She, her brother, and their mother all drove me to Sendai Airport, where I caught my flight back to Osaka. (The backpack fell open again and I nearly lost my mp3 player and headphones on the bus to the bus station. Don't you love how that backpack targeted my most valuable items?) I then proceeded to be stared at for an hour straight by the woman next to me on the highway bus back to Tokushima. I'm not at all joking. (I got on the bus and she had her bag in my seat, so I politely told her, "excuse me..." and she gave me this startled, slightly horrified look, and started staring at me as soon as I sat down.) It was the most ridiculous, infuriating experience, and by the end I just wanted to scream at her that I'm a human too! I have feelings! Stop treating me like a strange freak just because I'm not Japanese! When we were getting off the bus, I stood up to get stuff from the overhead shelf, and my backpack fell over and bumped into her, and I apologized in Japanese, and she recoiled from me. AAAAGH. As a result, I was in such a horrible mood as I walked through Tokushima Station...but right after I boarded the elevator to go up to TOPIA to check my e-mail before catching a train out west to Ikeda, I heard someone say, "Sensei, sayounara!" It was Itami-sensei, a really sweet teacher I've worked with at one of my elementary schools for the last 2 years, giving me a big, warm smile and a wave. I guess she was in the city on business. That one gesture made me feel so much better. But still, I got on my train out west and I started crying from how stressful and disheartening this trip had been. I enjoyed myself, and I really had a wonderful time with Kanno-sensei and her family (being with a nihonjin dispelled many of the unfriendly stares, but I did notice a lot of people's heads turning, saw their eyes on me and then flicking to my Japanese companions, some curious, some speculative), but I'm used to maybe getting an unfriendly stare once a week. I'm not used to getting stared at like that every day, by dozens of people. And then I returned home to finish packing, to load up my car, and to finish cleaning my place, because my successor was in Tokyo and flying into Tokushima the following day. No rest for the weary, indeed.
