1963 Mercedes-Benz 190SL
Chassis No. 12104210023457
The Mercedes-Benz 190SL is a two door grand touring convertible was produced between May 1955 and February 1963. The 190SL was sold alongside the more expensive Mercedes-Benz 300SL, which it closely resembled both in its styling and in its fully independent suspension, with both cars having double wishbone suspensions at the front and swing axles at the rear. However, the 190SL was built on the shortened monocoque R121 platform, which was modified from the W121 small saloon platform.
The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL impresses on account of unquestionable harmony of its tasteful body and its high performance. United in this automobile are the classical form of the coupe and the aesthetically perfected aerodynamic lines of it's time. Chromium is simply there to accentuate the stylish flowing lines.
23457: Presented here is very lovely example of the increasingly desirable Mercedes-Benz 190SL. Benefiting from a recent ground-up restoration, this fit running and absolutely beautiful Roadster is ready to be driven and enjoyed for years to come!
With its glossy red paint, polished brightwork, new tires and top, the car’s exterior is nicely presented and quite luxurious. The cabin displays admirably preserved leather, instrumentation, radio, clock and trim, along with fresh carpeting and paint. An excellent driver, featuring classic Mercedes-Benz styling without the price; a great alternative to the very expensive 300SL! Original Technical Data booklet, Owner’s Manual, vintage Dealer Directory and 1974 Vehicle Inspection Report accompany the car.
A Very Well Presented Driver!
Recent Ground-Up Restoration!
Desirable Classic SL Styling!
sick birthday present?
For my 35th birthday I got 4 lovely new tires and a $200/125 mile ride from Tucumcari NM to Amarillo TX. Amarillo was the closest anything, and thank goodness they had a Nissan dealer, and thank goodness they had my odd sized tires. The nearest Infiniti dealer was in Houston. 4/25/2008

BEST NEW TIRES. BEST NEW
BEST NEW TIRES. TOYO HT TIRE REVIEWS.
Best New Tires
- Well, they were new when I put them on five years ago. Ignore the dry rot and they almost look new; hey, they still hold air.
"Human Statues Get Tired Too"
This has to be one of my greatest finds this year...
I mean... you'd normally see people dressed as human statues doing their art, posing, performing, with the literal and metaphorical masks both on... But today...
Today I found just the man behind the mask, no pose, no performance... just a human being on an extremely hot day, tired and claiming for a deserved break... and today, I just admired artists who do this more than ever.

I finally found enough money under the couch cushions to put 5 new tires on the Wrangler. I think this is far and away the best all around tire you can put on any 4x4. There may be better tires for snow or mud or sand but this one does everything very well.

Castled...
After a tiring hike in the Black Mountains in the Beacons, we decided to stop by the Carreg Cennen castle. Wales is for sure the land of Castles..one more beautiful than the other. This castle is situated on a picturesque mound and when we got here, we learned that they close by 6.30 in the evenings. Since we drove a good 40 mins, we didnt want that to go waste. So we sneaked up the hill and managed to catch a glimpse of it.
The best part of this is that we had the castle all to ourselves!! That added to the intrigue of the already exciting experience. The castle ruins are beautiful and gives us an idea of the life that used to swarm in these beautiful monuments hundreds of years ago.
The castle is protected by limestone cliffs to the south and rock-cut ditches to the west. To the north and east there is an outer ward, barbican, gatehouse, drawbridge and deep pits. In the south-east corner of the inner ward steps lead to a vaulted passage and a natural cave beneath the castle. A fresh water spring rises in the cave, which would have been a useful supplement to the castle's water supply of rainwater cisterns during dry weather. The castle is under the care of Cadw, who have renovated and restored some of the remains. The castle is accessible through a local farm, followed by a steep climb up the hill on which it stands.
In early July 1403 Owain Glyndwr, together with 800 men, attacked Carreg Cennen, but, although inflicting severe damage to the walls, failed to take the castle. It was defended against Glyndwr's forces, who laid siege to it for several months, with Owain himself present, by a man who was to marry one of Glyndwr's daughters just a few years later, Sir John Scudamore of Herefordshire.
Wars of the Roses - The damage was repaired in 1409. However, in 1461, during the Wars of the Roses, Carreg Cennen became a Lancastrian stronghold. A Yorkist force subsequently captured the castle and set about demolishing it with a team of 500 men. - Courtesy Wiki
It was extremely cold with steady headwinds of about 8-12miles. The sun was setting behind the castle and the rain clouds were beginning their southerly migration to settle down to a steady downpour later that night in our camp!

Thanks for viewing and have a nice day!
My other house ! ;o))
I had a wonderful, if rather tiring, day yesterday visiting Buckingham Palace to see the State Rooms, the wedding dress, cake and the Queen's Faberge collection.
Not the best photography opportunity day though, as it is not allowed at all within the Palace and although you are allowed to within in grounds as you leave, there wasn't a decent view point ! Even at the front of the Palace it was tricky, so I was glad I didn't take my heavy Canon with me !
The State Rooms were amazing (I'd never been before), the wedding dress was far more beautiful and intricate than either the television coverage or photographs showed it and we were struck by how slim the Duchess of Cambridge is. I also loved her bouquet (there is an artificial replica there) ..... it's very small and oh, so dainty and pretty !
The cake was incredible ..... the workmanship and skill in creating it were just mind-blowing but for me, it was a bit too baroque and over the top for my personal taste. However, you had to remember it was a Royal wedding cake, and so could not be simple and understated !!!
The Faberge collection was stunning .... not just eggs but many other pieces including some exquisite enamelled flowers.
We are experiencing an unusually hot end to September ..... it was 27*+ yesterday ..... the hottest September day since 1895 ..... and as they are having 6,000 visitors a day to see the exhibition it was very hot and crowded, as you can imagine ! In fact, so hot they had three people collapse yesterday, one of whom we unfortunately witnessed.
It is very well organised though with strict staggered entry times by ticket only and a queuing/ holding system that Disney would be proud of ! As you can imagine too, security is very strict ..... in fact identical to airport security to get into the Palace !
It was all very well worth it and I'm so very glad I went.
In Wallace and Gromit's words ..... it was "A Grand Day Out " !!!!

white orchid tree
India. Arunachal. Upper Subansiri district.
A small place called Maro.
This Bauhinia species is growing all over Arunachal and Nagaland.
Common name: Buddhist Bauhinia, White orchid tree, White Mountain Ebony • Hindi: ???? ????? Kachnar • Manipuri: ???????? ????? Chingthrao angauba • Marathi: Kovidara • Tamil: Mandarai • Malayalam: ??????? Mandaram • Bengali: ???? Kanchan • Sanskrit: Kovidara
Botanical name: Bauhinia variegata var. candida Family: Caesalpiniaceae (Gulmohar family)
Synonyms: Bauhinia alba, Bauhinia variegata var. alboflava
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Buddhist Bauhinia is a sensational orchid tree that shows off masses of white flowers winter through spring, then some more in the summer as well. What more, the flowers are sweetly scented as well. The fast-growing Buddhist Bauhinia grows 20-40 feet in height with a 20-25 ft spread, the slender trunks topped with arching branches clothed in large, two-lobed, deciduous leaves. In fall, before the leaves drop, white orchid-tree is festooned with many showy and delightfully fragrant, five-inch-wide, white, orchid-shaped blossoms, with lemon-green markings. These flowers appear on the trees from January to April and are a beautiful sight to see. The flowers are followed by 12-inch-long, slender, brown, flat seedpods.
The White Mountains, California
The White Mountains are the next range east of the Sierra Nevada, although a lot shorter running N-S. I am sure they look much whiter in the winter.
These mountains contain the famous Bristlecone Pine forest, home to the oldest known living tree in the world. The 4,700 year old plant is named Methuselah. Not sure which one it is.

Hazard, KY Wal-Mart Supercenter (original look)
This is the Wal-Mart Supercenter located at 120 Daniel Boone Plaza in Hazard, KY. It had originally opened in April 2004 after nearly 15 years at the Black Gold Plaza across town. This Supercenter has a Subway restaurant, , 1-Hour Photo lab, vision center, Tire & Lube Express and a portrait studio (while the original Wal-Mart only had a and a snack bar). Starting in April 2010, they are remodeling the store to look more like the newer ones, so I wanted to get a shot of the outside before they started to do anything to it.

Dominion in Montreal (70s)
This picture from a video scan shows one a Dominion store in East of Montreal (Shebrooke Street, not too far from Olympic Stadium). Dominion was one of the major supermarkets competitors in Montreal. In 1981, Provigo took the store.
The store opened in July 1959, then had its run with Provigo after 1981, then was torn down in the 90s and a new Provigo was built over. It was part of a shopping center (The Maisonneuve Shopping Center) which had also a Woolworths, a Greenberg department store, a movie theater and a bowling center, went also down. The Greenberg location is now a Canadian Tire...
Only original tenant these days: a TD Canada Trust bank which was there since opening, except for a few months in a parking trailer while they torn down and rebuilt the strip mall...
Fact for American visitors: a welcome sign with the US flag was there for many years, kind gesture on our part...
(Note: this store also figures in the Official 1976 Olympic Games movie, where the last part of the Olympic Marathon was run...)

Cardinal Gear Swing 7
As part of an airplane's annual inspection, the landing gear is "cycled", i.e. raised and lowered. Our mechanic Sean is checking for proper operation and looking for leaks and worn parts.
There is great entertainment value in watching the bizzare Cessna landing gear in operation. On the other hand, it is an anxious moment for the owners as their prize bird sits perched on jacks while the main tires swing wildly about. It would also have been a bit of a downer if the airplane had fallen on Sean, crushing him like a bug.
You have to admit this is a fast looking airplane with the wheels tucked away.
Main St 1903
This view looks west down Dallas' Main Street from Field in 1903 or 1904. As far as I know, all of the buildings in this photo have since been torn down. The city bank building is on the right, which was at the southwest corner of Main and Murphy. It was torn down in 1964.
I scanned this from a city building league guide dated 1969. I'd like to think someone was noticing that these were all being torn down and was trying to do something about it, but the guide was missing a lot of pages so i'm not sure. I really love photos like this, and its painful to see downtown so dead now when it was once a boomtown.

Michelin Building: 100th Anniversary
The iconic Michelin Building is 100 years old this month.(January 2011) The former UK headquarters of the Michelin Tyre Company was opened in 1911 and was designed by Francois Epinasse. The stained-glass windows were removed by Michelin in 1939 at the outset of the war and were subsequently lost. When Sir Terence Conran and the late Lord Paul Hamlyn bought the building in 1985, they commissioned new windows using photographs and posters to replicate the originals. "Now is the time to drink," Bibendum raises a champagne glass of sharp objects, demonstraiting the repairability Michelin pneumatics, Unfortunately you can't see the champagne glass.
One of my cousins used to work for Michelin and she had a Michelin Man sitting in a tree in their garden.

Day 2: Sunday 20th Feb
Day 2:
We are all tired after the journey. The apartment is quiet so we have no problem sleeping in and having a relaxing breakfast. We are on the top floor so there's neighbours to each side but no one above us. We can't here the apartments occupants below us either. So I guess they can't hear our music. So that's good all round.
2Day is a day of truth. Julia and I both invested in our own ski boots. Bought at Nottingham's Decathalon.
I noticed mine were not quite wide enough for my feet when I wore them for an evening at home. My boots have liners that will mold to the shape of my feet. I think I've cracked the width problem.
All I do is put the 2 main foot fasteners across the foot but where they do not cause the boot width to become smaller – fastened but not tightening. The ankle fastener needs to be tight to stop my foot moving and the top fastener can be fairly lose. It's great having comfortable boots. The ski control is so much better. Julia is also getting on well with her new “pump up fit” Nordica boots.
From La Kilimandjaro you can walk 100 feet up the hill and then ski down to Plagne Centre – the first lift on the left is Becoin and it takes you up to a couple of red runs and a nice blue – Mont St Sauveur – Fras is on a snowboard and for a 1st run it was a little difficult – so we had Fras saying “I can't do this”. We did the one run and then went back to the apartment for fish soup, bread and butter, Tea and fruits of the forest crush.
Ben was knackered so crashed out. Julia wanted shorter ski's. So after lunch we walked up the slope opposite the apartment and skied down a blue Jean Marie, up lift Melezes, across to Bergerie and down the ecartes and down to Ski Set at Plagne Soleil. Julia got 160cm skis and was a lot happier.
Up Bergerie again and across les dolines, bridge and across to Becoin – unfortunately a bit of a walk – up to Mont St Saveur and back to the pad. We got Ben up and did Jean Marie, Melezes, Bergerie, down escartes and back to ski set. It was 5pm and Jus was worried about us getting stuck because the lifts were shutting. Ben got better boots, kept the same skis and we skied down to a lift that took us up to Plagne Centre. Unfortunately Becoin shut at 5.25pm, so we tried the telemetro to Aime 2000(m). This gave us a straightforward ski down Samba and back to the apartment.
By now our ski speed was up and our technique coming back to us. The boots make it easier. I'm finding weighting the down hill boot/ski easier than with ill fitting hire boots.
I'm growing a goatee. So I'm shaving the rest of it each day.
Tea: Chilli Con Carne made with added lightly fried scotch bonnet pepper to add some heat. Finely chopped and then stirred into the chilli just before serving.
Ben bought some cheeses down the mountain. We have Comte 18 mois Affinace, Beaufort, Brie de Meaux, Reblochon. Brought the salter scale so I can weigh the cheese. 28g is a healthy extra A. As we are not drinking that much tea and coffee 28g of cheese can probably be a daily treat.
Boots revisited: the left liner has a hard bit that sits below the buckle, I bought a heeel raiser which should raise my ankle position upwards by 5mm. Then I resorted to a thin liner sock, a thicker sock, and a round foam protector - altho' if I crank on the ankle buckle it still digs in a little - I need to contact Salomen and see if they could offer a suitable replacement liner. Right boot and liner are fine.
DSCF5116s
My 'nip to the shops' Moulton mk3 made at at the Raleigh Nottingham factory in 1971. I've lightened it slightly but mostly I wanted to make it look sporty by fitting contemporary parts like the TA chainwheel, GB alloy stem with GB drops and Brookes saddle. I've fitted a 90's Sturmey Archer 5 speed sprinter to 16"brompton alloy rims shod with schwalbe stelvios 16x1 1/8th tyres.A great little mover..
