His drawings, executed in black ink on white paper was clearly influenced by the style of Japanese woodcuts. His subjects emphasized the beautiful, the grotesque, the decadent and the erotic. Beardsley was a leading figure in the Aesthetic Art Movement of the late 1800s which also included the works of Oscar Wilde, Edgar Allan Poe, Harry Clarke and James A. McNeill Whistler. Beardsley's contribution to the development of the Art Nouveau style and the poster movement was hugely significant, despite the brevity of his artistic career before his untimely death from tuberculosis at only 25. For each city in question, the percent share the city is of it's state or union territory and of India as a whole is reported. Nile Rodgers presents The Chic Organization: Boxset Vol. 1 / Savoir Faire Import four CD box set that gives the listener full access to Nile Rodgers' Chic Organization Ltd. archives. The boxset includes Chic's best tracks, rare versions, outtakes, remixes, unreleased songs and all of Chic Organization Ltd's main productions including 'We Are Family' by Sister Sledge, 'Upside Down' and 'I'm Coming Out by Diana Ross and many others. Rodgers, his musical co-hort Bernard Edwards and Chic recorded eight albums and is one of the most sampled band in the world. The bass line from "Rapper's Delight" by Sugarhill Gang comes from Chic's "Good Times", "Lady" by Modjo comes from "Soup For One", Notorious BIG sampled "I'm Coming Out", Will Smith rearranged "He's The Greatest Dance" by Sister Sledge. In addition, many artists were heavily influenced by Bernard Edwards' bassline in "Good Times" such as Queen with "Another One Bites The Dust". Morrison's was widespread and had branches across the state, and in every major WV town. Uhh.. I'm not positive. Somewhere I have a picture of olde Huntington that shows the Morrison's so I'll have to see if it was in this area. Too bad the terazzo wasn't decorated. Apparently one half of it now is some sort of dance club, actually called Envy which must be a chain in the state, because there's one in Motown, too. Ugh, the humanity. The other half is apparently empty. Collinwood Inn - Oneida, New York The Angelique Room, decorated in devilish red (of course!) with a painting of Lara Parker as Angelique the witch. This brick Italiante-style mansion in the quaint historic district of Oneida, New York, was built circa 1870 for Stephen H. Farnam, a successful businessman and banker. It has five bedrooms on the second floor and one on the first. This stately old home retains many of its original features such as ornate plaster ceiling medallions in almost every room, hardwood floors throughout, three marble fireplaces, a grand staircase, 11-ft high ceilings with ornate plaster crown moulding, crystal chandeliers, and 2 sets of functioning pocket doors. The belvedere offers a scenic view of the city's gothic-style churches and many of the magnificent Victorian mansions that line historic Main Street. It has been home to many families over the years and is now a bed and breakfast called the Collinwood Inn. It is the nation's first and (as far as we know) only Dark Shadows themed bed and breakfast offering comfortable lodging in a unique gothic atmosphere filled with antiques and various Dark Shadows memorabilia. Located approximately half an hour east of Syracuse, the Collinwood Inn offers the visitor a choice of five bedrooms; four of which are named after a character from the 1960's Dark Shadows television show, and one called the West Wing. All rooms have a private bathroom with shower, and two also have a relaxing jacuzzi tub with room for two. And be warned, just like its television counterpart, this Collinwood also has its dark secrets and restless spirits! But don't let that stop you from relaxing in the 1897 drawing room or enjoying a delicious home-cooked morning meal in the grand dining room. Hosted by two fun-loving Dark Shadows aficionados, Brian and Gerry Gray, the inn also offers guests plenty of chills and thrills, private screenings of Dark Shadows movies, exciting murder mystery weekends (Collinwood style!), a delicious breakfast menu, seances and surprises, and a chance to experience one of the most unique B & B lodgings in the country. The house is located at 302 Main Street, Oneida, New York. Thom Yorke - Bathroom - Ocean Beach - Hodads Burger Shop Thom Yorke Bathroom Ocean Beach Hodads Burger Shop A visit to Hodad's, with its signature Hot Curl-inspired mural on the outside and cool half-a-VW bus booth inside, is the best introduction to Ocean Beach culture. With a menu inspired by late-night munchies (it includes every permutation of the hamburger possible) and staff that can give both a surf report and a menu recommendation, Hodad's is an unpretentious, joyful, carnivorous romp. Hodad's (what surfers call someone who pretends to be a surfer, but doesn't know his barrel from a nice left) has been an OB institution since 1969. The management proclaims, proudly, to have served "under 99 billion", just as it claims to be open 24 hours, "just not consecutively." Vintage vehicle license plates decorate the walls and surfboards the ceiling. The vibe is surf shack with a touch of Corvette Diner. Kosciol Swietych Piotra i Pawla The entrance door to the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul in Krakow. Jesuits arrived in Poland soon after the Council of Trident of 1563. Following the decisions reached at the Council, they were to defend the Catholic faith from the influence of the Reformation and its ideas. Thanks to the support of King Stephen Bathory, they received the Church of St. Barbara in Krakow where the Order established a modest residence. It soon turned out, however, that the Jesuits could not carry out their pastoral duties properly due to the small size of the Church. Thus the idea of building a new church was born. A site was chosen in Grodzka Street, next to the Convent of the Poor Clares. Thanks to the intercession of Rev. Piotr Skarga, King Sigismund III Vasa earmarked appropriate funds for the foundation. The Jesuit church in Krakow was the first church in Poland to be built in the new, Baroque style. Construction on the site of an old Gothic church was begun in 1596 by Jozef Britius, and completed in 1619 by Giovanni Trevano of Lombardy, builder to King Sigismund III Vasa. It is one of the most faithful examples of transplanting the architecture of the famous Chiesa del Gesu in Rome to foreign soil, with a fine Baroque facade and great dome. It is said that the Jesuits spent so much money on the ornate white facade and the sculptures that they ran out of money to finish the rest of the building. Indeed, behind the impressive Baroque facade is a church made from ordinary brick. The interior of the church is as monumental as it is austere. Enclosed in a semi-circle, the chancel is home to the high altar designed by Kacper Bazanka and including a 19th-century painting depicting the presentation of the keys to St. Peter. Attention is attracted to the elaborate stucco decoration by Giovanni Battista Falconi (made in the years 1619-1633) on the vaulting of the apse which illustrates the lives of St. Peter and St. Paul. Buried in the crypt of the church is Father Piotr Skarga: theologian, writer, preacher, and confessor of King Sigismund III Vasa (just a digress: if there were Spanish Inquisitors in Poland, I'm sure they would have loved to have Father Piotr in their ranks ;)). /212-365/ decorating We usually don't decorate the house for the holidays but I decided that it would be festive this year to put up some Chinese New Year decorations since we were having people over for a dumpling party to celebrate. Yes, that Chinese character is upside and it's totally on purpose. The runoff coming from it, and from Grinnell glacier tucked behind Broken Wing mountain on the left could be heard from far away. Love that sound. Sadly, this area may be called Many Glaciers, but by the end of the decade it would be more accurate to call it "Not Any Glaciers." Gem glacier is reported to only have a couple years left before it is too small to be classified as a glacier. Everyday a new production starring Easter Rydell, directed by Easter Rydell. Today must be cherry day. Norrey smiled. "well, I?m off to the college. New quarter starts soon and I?ve got to check my class schedules. You know how that is Mrs.. Easter Rydell. Always something new to do. How are your blossoms? The snap in the air last night didn?t damage them did it?" "Heavens no , child. You know I?m particular ?bout my blossoms. I just turned up the heating lamps a bit." However, autumn still enthralled Norrey. the decorations, the colors, the eccentricities of her neighbors and the county burst through in the mild season. Some of the early birds had already put up fall decorations. Mrs.. Lil, a block down from her own apartment, had gone all out. Every year, on August 30, she goes about bedecking her whole front yard in autumnal plastic. On the left hand side of her property, a line of whirly gigs shaped like turkeys spin their plastic wings. Along the wrought iron posts of the front fence she wraps yards and yards of plastic fruit and greenery. It is the gaudiest thing in the neighborhood, yet Mrs.. Lil refuses to buy any of the more modern silk greenery or fruit. No, instead she plasters the same garland she?s had since 1965 along that poor fence, missing posts and all. Her entire front porch blazes with orange and white Christmas lights. She must have 200 strands wrapped and twisted around poles and doorjambs. On one side of her yard, a miniature gazebo sporting matching decorations sits vying for a pedestrian?s eye. The right side of her yard is reserved specifically for the seasonal holidays. It was like some outdoor shrine to holiday gods. Turkeys, memorial stones, tombstones and bats, you name the holiday be sure Ms. Lil has some gaudy resin honorific stabbed into her front lawn for it. How she does it? Who knows. It?s like magic. Little worker gnomes must come out from underneath her stoop and spend the night nailing and planting and painting. Norrey startled herself with the high cackle that escaped her lips in the silence of her car. A quick flash of Mrs. Easter Rydell bent over weather-stricken flowers and her wide butt flashing the neighborhood. After the check in, one must descend 2 stories (stairs or elevator) from the entrance into the rich, dark and modern basement dining room where well dressed servers surround each diner like the restaurant's mahogany walls. The extremely pleasing looking wait staff appears to have just stepped out from the pages of a Prada catalogue, head to toe in dark stylish suits. A look around the dining room reveals that half of the diners are established looking English speaking visitors, juxtaposed by a spacious private dining room occupied that day by the Milanese Football Club (colourful flags and all). Chef Cracco stands tall as a cute but creative chef. His kitchen, large, clean and cool has a spacious red walled private office tucked in on one side. There is also a private dark seating room next to this private alcove equipped with a marble counter. I had the pleasure of speaking with the young looking Luca Gardini (Sommelier) who aided in my selection of my carafe of red wine, and also the company of Davide Ostorero, my head server of the meal, whose friendliness and ample knowledge of the courses, their ingredients and master of the English language did not go unnoticed.
