City Land Investment Company Subdivision, Molesworth Street

Marvellous Mansions, Cottages and Castles, North Adelaide Historical Walking Trail
In 1884 a total of 22 two-storey dwellings across seven town
acres were built in this upmarket subdivision. There is no other
subdivision like this in the city where so many large residences
were built as speculative ventures. Eighteen houses were designed
as semi-detached and four were detached. Thomas Frost, the
architect, designed several city buildings including additions
to the former Congregational Church in Brougham Place and
the former Whinham College, now the Lutheran College in
Jeffcott Street.

a treasured gift from my sister, these little cathy rose statues came (completely coincidentally!) at a time of huge changes in my life when that was my daily mantra, "it's time to take a risk, and have faith that everything will work out." now sitting on my kitchen windowsill, they serve as a daily reminder.
...everything did work out...

Elisabethville, 1927

Elisabethville, 1927

A city map of Elisabethville in 1927, the city of Lubumbashi today. This mining city was founded in 1910 by the Belgian coloniser in the most southern area of Congo. This kind of plans reveal in a very direct way what kind of social thinking was at work in this city. Racial segregation was one fundamental aspect of it.
An investigation of the relation between spatial organisation, sociological realities and political thinking and power, in the development of Elisabethville is one of the aspects of our research. An other one is what kind of meaning this colonial heritage, invested with this complex history, can have today.
Move over the image to read some explaining notes.

In the spacious and light counter area was an exhibition of ancient Post Office letter boxes. At the South end of the building was the Post Office Museum. The free market doesn't seem to allow for luxuries like museums or fine post offices like this one. The post boxes are sealed to prevent membes of the public posting letters into them.

Symposium scene

A symposium (dinner party), from a painted frieze from a small mausoleum (colombarium) near Porta Maggione. The mausoleum was owned by the family of T. Statilius Taurus, an aristocrat close to the emperor Augustus. Dated ca. 25-1 BC. The scenes in the painting depict the Aeneas and Romulus legends, suggesting that the mausoleum was intended to celebrate Roman identity and connect that identity with the family interred within. The scenes include the love between Rhea Silvia and the god Mars, as well as the birth of the divine twins. At the time of its discovery the frieze included painted captions that are now all but gone, preserved only in a 19th-century watercolour reproduction. National Museum of Rome, Palazzo Massimo.

More info: Iraq's economy is dominated by the petroleum sector, which has traditionally provided about 95% of foreign exchange earnings. In the 1980s, financial problems caused by massive expenditures in the eight-year war with Iran and damage to oil export facilities by Iran led the government to implement austerity measures, borrow heavily, and later reschedule foreign debt payments; Iraq suffered economic losses of at least $80 billion from the war. After the end of hostilities, in 1988, oil exports gradually increased with the construction of new pipelines and restoration of damaged facilities. GDP of Iraq grew 56% in the '60s reaching a peak growth of 57% in the '70s. However, the current GDP per capita shrank by 23% in the '80s amid the Iran-Iraq War.

Abernathy roof rehabilitation (Recovery Act project)

This image shows a portion of the roof replacement work on the Main Hatchery building at Abernathy Fish Technology Center. The old metal roof dated back to 1961 and had significant structural failings and presented an immediate hazard for facility staff. In addition to roof replacement and structural upgrades, the $556,479 in Recovery Act funding was also used to replace hatchery building lights, three sets of double main doors, and provide the structure seismic tie down supports. The work was completed in November, 2010.

Little White Salmon walkways (Recovery Act)

These new metal walkways on the lower raceways at the Little White Salmon National Fish Hatchery were designed and constructed using $29,665 in Recovery Act funding. The old concrete walkways were very narrow, posing an employee workplace safety hazard in violation of minimum Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) standards. In addition to the narrowness of the old walkways, the concrete surface regularly became slick when wet or covered with residual fish food. The work was completed using December 2009.

The Hazardous Waste Q&A: An In-Depth Guide to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and the Hazardous Materials Transportation Act

The Hazardous Waste Q & A An In-depth Guide to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and The Hazardous Materials Transportation Act Revised Edition Travis P. Wagner The "Answer Book" for all your compliance questions. How much of your company's waste is considered "hazardous" under current federal regulations? If the carrier you hire to remove waste is cited for a violation, can you also be held liable? Does your company's disposal program meet new EPA and DOT requirements? Now you can find the authoritative answers to these and hundreds of other critical waste management problems--in minutes--with the revised edition of this practical, quick-reference guide to RCRA and HMTA compliance. The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and the Hazardous Materials Transportation Act have spawned an enormous and complex body of regulations and requirements--among the most complicated laws in the land. Unfortunately, while ensuring compliance with these regulations is a top priority for both the EPA and DOT. helping businesses understand and comply with the regulations is not. Written by a former technical compliance specialist for EPA. The Hazardous Waste Q&A helps you make sure your waste management practices fully meet these tough regulations--and will help you reduce your liability, too. The Hazardous Waste Q&A simplifies hazardous waste management under RCRA and HMTA by presenting these highly technical and often difficult to interpret regulations in an easy-to-understand, easy-to-use question-and-answer format. This approach lets you go straight to the help you need without digging through pages and pages of dense, technical detail. You'll find EPA-approved procedures and solutions for virtually every practical aspect of hazardous waste management:
* Identification and Classification Guidelines
* Requirements for Medium-and Large-Quantity Generators
* Transportation under RCRA and HMTA
* Recycling, Storage, Treatment, and Disposal
* Ground Water Monitoring
* Closure and Post-Closure
* Financial Requirements
* Operating and Post-Closure Permits
* Corrective Action
* State Regulations and Enforcement
Questions were developed from thousands of actual inquiries received at EPA and from the author's experience consulting on hazardous wastes for private industry. In preparing the answers and guidelines, Mr. Wagner went beyond the regulations themselves to gather additional facts and insights from source documents not readily available to the layman, including OSWER Directives, Regulatory Interpretation Letters, Program Implementation Guidance, EPA policy memos and guidance manuals, DOT guidance manuals, Federal Register preambles, and RCRA/Superfund Hotline Monthly Reports. Thus, users will find Q&A not just convenient but authoritative and in depth## For everyone concerned with hazardous## managers, health and safety managers, attor## Q&A is an unrivalled productivity resource. OFFSHORE INVESTMENTS THAT SAFEGUARD : THAT SAFEGUARD

OFFSHORE INVESTMENTS THAT SAFEGUARD : LSF INVESTMENT FUND.

Offshore Investments That Safeguard

offshore investments that safeguard

    offshore investments
  • (Offshore investment) Offshore investment is the keeping of money in a jurisdiction other than one's country of residence. Offshore jurisdictions are a commonly accepted solution to reducing tax burdens levied in most countries to both large and small scale investors alike.

  • Offshore investments are savings and investments held in a region outside the UK tax system. The Isle of Man, Jersey and Luxembourg are well-known examples.

    safeguard
  • safe-conduct: a document or escort providing safe passage through a region especially in time of war

  • make safe

  • A measure taken to protect someone or something or to prevent something undesirable

  • precaution: a precautionary measure warding off impending danger or damage or injury etc.; "he put an ice pack on the injury as a precaution"; "an insurance policy is a good safeguard"; "we let our guard down"

Offshore winds

Offshore winds

First major offshore wind event and perfect time to test a new tool, Graduated ND filters. At first I attached them with a holder but quickly found out that its like dodging and burning but a lot harder, particularly if you don't have a flat horizon, because you have to memorize the areas you want exposed for a longer period of time/shorter period of time and get the motion down at an even pace within the very short period of time when the photograph is exposed....I can tell it takes a lot of practice but its seems like it is definitely worth the investment of time.....I ended up taking a tremendous number of pictures testing out a few different filters and techniques, so lots of sunset shot are going to follow this one...for this one I used a 3 stop hard reverse graduated ND filter

risk & faith

risk & faith

a treasured gift from my sister, these little cathy rose statues came (completely coincidentally!) at a time of huge changes in my life when that was my daily mantra, "it's time to take a risk, and have faith that everything will work out." now sitting on my kitchen windowsill, they serve as a daily reminder.
...everything did work out...
