Where stories, and love, and friendships are baked
My arm hurts so bad from trekking all over the Plateau yesterday, carrying Lois. Mile after mile after, ahem, ok we may have misjudged that last trail haha... and so my arm hurts and I wont post any pictures of yesterday but this, for now. And I'm on my way to the car show in Temecula, as some of you probably are as well I hope...but before I go...I need to explain about....My poor kitchen, my poor dining room, my poor house, and this poor picture.
So crooked and lost. It's just a tract home, but home was the important part of the word, the tract part just made it affordable. I tried to make it different, "homey", comfortable. It's gone now. Some dreams will fade, some will come crashing down. This one is both. This stupid beautiful home that I hate love so much. The same one that I tried so hard to save, but am now losing. We sold our condo in San Diego to buy this, and raise our boys here. My oldest one now moved out...just a few days ago. A milestone that for 3 days I was fine with, then somehow it too, came crashing in. The realization that is. That I'm getting older, and so are they. That this house may be lost to us, but the dreams we cooked up in it are not. I painted it blue, the happiest blue I could find. I found thrift store furniture and painted it white. Painted the cabinets white, I painted everything white. Even the vanity that Joe bought me when I was pregnant with my first son, the one that's 19 now, the one that grew wings and moved out on his own, the one I'm so happy for but still miss, even though it's only been less than a week. This stupid old house just wont be the same.
I know this isn't an award winning photo as far as aesthetics and lighting and all of the professional photography mumbo jumbo criteria, but I don't want to forget my stupid crooked kitchen where my boys have grown up eating and laughing and fighting and crying and bickering and solving and relenting and relaying and smiling and loving and growing. And if you care or not it's the first in a series of stupid photos of my stupid house full of my beautiful memories and my fortunate life.... there's the bread box, beaten and battered, rusted and salvaged (in more than one way on more than one day)...there's the coffee cup, and the shark tooth necklace, the growth marks on the door! Should I take the door with me? ( : My roses...transplanted from one California home to another, all of these years...do I take those again too? The cutie tree, the stupid pool we built, the baseboards John made...
It's a stupid picture of my stupid dining room inside of my stupid kitchen, and I love it.
Kerri and I only stuck around for the first two bands (thus, no photo of the headliner, Mono--who are from Japan). I really only wanted to see the Sleeping People (from San Diego) and Bellini (from Italy / Austin). Sleeping People 'cause they are the sine qua non of "math rock" and Bellini cuz they are really INTENSE and Powerful live (also very LOUD). Since the Echo is being renovated, their shows are in this loft-like space in the back of the furniture store. Kinda cool...felt more like a party.
